Such bickering. For what? Calm down folks, it's just pixels.

See above.

Still, the basis of it all is just pixels. It morphed into that ad hominem laden albatross you're referring to, but it still started as a discussion about a game character. So it still ask: for what? Be excellent to one another, we're all fans of the same game. Hardly a need to bring personal things into the mix.

LOL! That's incredibly insulting to everyone involved. And I'm the bad guy.

I thought I was the bad guy now?

No, Eu, they'd defend me even if I had dark hair/red hair/no hair  because they think I'm making a fair point. That's it.

Hey, maybe that's true, maybe it isn't, we'll never know, eh? But I admit defeat to the "B*tch please!" image because yeah, okay. It's a fair cop. :police:

You could do that, but it might get you banned, so... y'know, weigh the pros and cons and so on. Also it'd really feed my ego

Not even close. Femshep 5 looks like a misplaced runway model, The Joy is what I always imagined a hardened military badass who happened to be a woman would look like.

I don't care if FemShep is blonde. But give me a "Freya" blonde, not baby spice w/ angry eyes on.When I look at the blonde FemShep I want to hear "Valhalla, I am coming!" Not, "If you wanna be my lover..."

FemShep is an awesome character much to the credit of Jennifer Hale's voice acting. She strikes a fine balance between strong and feminine. FemShep is a wise; kick ass, experienced warrior woman. What we got was a Spice girl audition.

This wasn't done for FemShep fans, This was for a target audience of young males prolly 16-24. So they could have some "eye candy".. It's obvious in how young she looks (and I have nothing against young heroines, but Shepard is 32 years old.) And b4 you start w/ ," well, it's the future..gene therapy...etc., " Sheploo looks 32 years old. And he looks damn good, imo. FemShep should not look 19. And on top of that...Rihanna hair.

The character of FemShep just got sold out by BW marketing. It's ascandal, nad I can't stfu like a nice girl and pretend I bloody appreciate it.

I know there are FemShep players that like these versions and that's cool. But don't think for one second that this was done for you, or that this was an honest attempt at portraying FemShep. It was a slick lil move by marketing. FemShep just got punk'd.

Ha, not hardly!  None of those femSheps look like the bags of antlers that pass for runway models these days.  To me she looks more like the star of a Young Adult novel for girls, turned into a movie.

Whereas, I agree.  I'm not fond of being told to be grateful for crumbs at the tail end, when there should have been equality from the very start.  Pointing that out is not wrong, nor is it oppressive to male gamers.

The real problem with having people vote on FemShep was that it was never really a question of which one would win. If the people in the sample of voters were mostly black, the dark skinned Shepard would have been chosen. Since the sample was mostly white and from western countries, the result is (of course) the blonde Shepard. The blonde woman is the white, western, judeo-christian ideal.

So not really a real "vote." But she still looks good haha

I dunno about that.  I'm light-haired, and I voted for a dark-haired Shepard.

The contest seems to be less about "How do you want Shepard to look," and more about "Would you tap that," at this point.

Ditto + Don't really care why they made the selection look the way they chose, no I'm not a tween or in my 20's or some horny old man or horny tween. She looks to me (as someone who is the same age she is supposed to be), that she is a strong looking attractive woman and thats what I want my FemShep to look like that is all there is to it.

This. I agree.

And I don't see a problem with people stating their opinions and what they would like to see, or "complaining" as some choose to call it, rather than just sitting quietly hoping that Bioware are mindreaders.

I didn't know anyone considered it oppressive to male gamers in the first place. Certainly not I.

These femSheps are exactly what the "femShep in promotionals!" crowd asked for. The main point being thrown around by that faction was that it would bring in new gamers who would otherwise not give Mass Effect a chance. Twentysomethings that look like they have attitude will do that best. That's not crumbs from my point of view.

And you can still customize your Shepard.

The community voted for that blonde haired and blue eyed 19 year old girl. I think the mistake was asking the community to vote in the first place.

Don't forget , it's not just -femshep- fans voting for her appearance, but some young guys are definitely chosing a femshep they'd tap.

I'm a male gamer
I don't play femshep
I voted for number 5 because it's the one I consider most sexually attractive.
I voted with my genitiles......

Is she a feminist icon still?

Bioware should have not -retconed- femshep and just put the existing default up as a poster child and not made a big fuss about it.

Just run a femshep campaign using the default femshep from the previous games.

This is why running sexual politics is always going to back fire..... if they had just -done- it, there would have been none of this response at all..

Again they made a big hubabaloo about it... pissed off people who it wasn't relevent to, and pissed off a few others who it was relevent to but felt cheated by the outcome, because she's not a bull ....dam

Bioware just do what you will and don't play fecking PR games

I agree!

The whole FemShep deal reminds me of something Jacob said: "Did you know they used you in recruitment ads? You were like the human ideal for six months. Then they replaced you with a composit image they invented. Guess you didn't focus test right. The perfect example of humanity and they still dumped you."

But I absolutely love the fact that BioWare has heard its fans and they want to please us. It's their job, they've made it a part of their job and they seem to love it. Hell, we love it because we ask/demand things of them and they do their best to provide it. So, although I wish FemShep 5 looked a little more like a military woman instead of a misplaced runway model, I am glad BioWare has brought FemShep into the spotlight.

I don't believe that if it was put to a black community to vote, that they would automatically vote for a black option (that said, I wouldn't blame them if they did because frankly there aren't enough black lead roles in games)

I also don't think it has anything to do with a "white, western, judeo-christian ideal" First, that's almost like suggesting that everyone is a Neo-N@zi because they liked the blonde Shep more than the others. Second, I chose the 5th design NOT for her hair colour, but because the style was better (and many other people have also said this).

Either way, It kind of doesn't matter much to me as I will just play Sheploo. As long as this new FemShep doesn't draw in huge perverted crowds I am good. ;)

Sheploo caught my attention in a trailer, and ever since then I have been a fan of ME. :D I think he does the job just fine, I mean he grabbed all of us, didn't he? Through his actions, cool moves, or whatever, he are here because of BioWare and Sheploo. ^_^

I do like the new FemShep however.

And you can still customize your Shepard.

Go back and read all the femShep threads, and you will see a large number of "Don't Tread on Me" posts by male gamers concerned that their interests will never be represented in a FPS again.  ;)  If that's not you, then no worries.

I'm part of the "femShep in promotionals" crowd, and this is not what I was asking for.  This marketing plays to the existing crowd and to the male gaze, not to a new market.  All the concern about femShep's appearance, in and of itself, is evidence that we're in crumb territory.  All we're meant to care about is how she looks, whereas maleShep gets marketed on what he can DO.

Now, if BioWare marketing comes up with a trailer in which female Shepard is a serious badass, and not Shepard Barbie who poses like a pinup, I'll eat my words.  I doubt I'll have to, though.  My guess is that Shepard's going to be cocking her hip and flirting in the trailer.  Wait and see.

20,000+ people want number 5 regardless. That is what they want and the opposing people in total of 27,000 but only few thousend in each option (which makes the total for anti 5 group pointless as they wouldn't want same as each other even if 5 wasn't winning) makes the half dozen people on here vocal about not liking number 5 seem truly miniscule.

You would think that being a skilled developer Bioware would be capable of designing and choosing the look of their own characters.
