I got Xbox Live for the first time today.  When I logged in and started up Mass Effect 2, I got the prompt to enter the Cerberus activation code included with my purchase of Mass Effect 2.  I declined because I figured "Oh, I'll just do that later by doing the 'press Y to connect to Cerberus Network' thing on the main menu."

Then I ran into a problem.  When I was ready to activate the code, I pressed Y on the main menu, then I entered my e-mail address and it said "This e-mail is already in use."  Duh, it's my EA account.  Then I realized it had asked me to create a new account.  I have one, obviously, so I declined.  That just put me back on the main menu!

I can't figure out how to bring up the prompt again, but I want my free stuff.  Can anybody help me out?

Also, I can't try it with a new gamertag, because my Mass Effect 2 saved games are all linked to this one now...

Patented stupid question time: have you checked out the sticky at the top of the board? If not that should be your first port of call, and it looks like it should be possible to redeem via the forum here as well.

I did read it before, yes. The problem is that I cannot log into my EA account on my Xbox 360.  I tried to link my gamertag online, then I got the message...

Sorry, we can't find information about that Xbox LIVE Gamertag.

Before you can link your Xbox LIVE Gamertag to your EA Master Account, you need to log in to any online EA game with your Xbox or Xbox 360.

No.  If I was able to do that, I wouldn't have to do this on the computer.  Ugh.  So many hoops to jump through!  What a pain in the ass...

Oh and here's another tidbit, this time from the sticky'd post.

It is recommended that you link your gamertag to your EA account before redeeming your promo codes as an improper link of the two can lead to you losing the promo items forever.

Now are you starting to see why I made a post in the forum asking for help?

The reason you're getting the error is because you either typed your password in incorrectly or didn't type it in at all which makes the game think you are trying to create a new account under that e-mail.

Try logging in via the EA website to ensure that you're using the correct password. https://profile.ea.com/login.do

Note that the EA password is case sensitive. So A is not the same as a

Worst comes to worst, change your PW via the website and try again.

The password sensitivity is one thing to look out for as Janus suggests.

However, not once in your posts do you mention trying to redeem via the forum as I suggested; all your efforts have been via the 360. Yes, I understood your post, Neverwinter, but I don't see you trying what I had suggested (you only mention linking accounts but not actually redeeming the code). It is your perogative to accept suggestions or not so I won't question that. I can only suggest that you contact EA support if your account information is correct after what Janus has suggested.

This
is why I am wary of redeeming the code online.  I will try other
things, including double-checking the password, as Janus suggested.  It
is a possibility, considering that my EA password is very
similar to another of my online passwords.  The only difference is
capitalization (I had to change it sometime before).

Edit: <_< I have no idea what happened to this reply.  The paragraph spacing, and some weird "file:\\\\" that I can't get rid of when I edit it.  Ugh, long day.

Yes, it turned out to be the case sensitivity. Can't believe I missed that.  I'm sorry.  Thank you both for your help.

Glad you got it sorted.

There have been cases where Cerberus Networks have been registered incorrectly; EA support can and does rectify such issues. Best to avoid the circumstances though the help is there if required.
