It's not cheating, it's moving on

I dislike how romancing someone else in ME2 is called cheating if you had a romance in ME1. For me, I romanced Ashley in ME1 and then moved on to Miranda in ME2. Apparently, that's cheating, somehow. As kelly said, break ups are hard, and as far as I'm concerned, Me and Ashley broke up on Horizon. So if I broke up with her, and then went on to Romance Miranda or Tali, how is it cheating, it's more like moving on with your life if anything. And apparently there's going to be "heavy" reaper-cussions (that's only way I spell it) for moving on. I hardly think that's fair. The only consequence that's acceptable is Ash or your previous LI to not be loyal to you or not very trustful, no story related consequences.

Hey, it's a bioware game. I imagine "repercussions" will translate into receiving an e-mail from Ashley telling you how much you suck.

It starts looking very like cheating if you're planning to get back with the ME1 romance at the earliest opportunity.

But if you've actually moved on, there shouldn't be that many consequences. Beyond the dumped character being sad. I don't know if I could cope with making Liara sad.

There's no way that Bioware is going to let you get the moral high ground on this, despite making both romantic options in Mass Effect 1 blow you off completely when they see you in Mass Effect 2, and the fact that you cannot sleep with romances from Mass Effect 2 (and have them considered an actual romance,) before the point of meeting them both.

I am expecting to have to bow and scrape and beg no matter what happened outside of actually not romancing anyone else.

I highly doubt Shepard will ever bow down, especially my shepard.

Agreed. And besides, almost all of your ME2 LIs can know about the ME1 relationship. Garrus and Tali were on your crew. Jack, Miranda and Jacob can all be taken to Horizon. Thane is the only one left out of the loop, but I find it hard to believe he'd be completely in the dark.

Relationships tend to end when one of the participants die, and the Horizon talk and email seem to reflect that. There may still be feelings there, and obvious concern for Shepard, but you're in relationship limbo. If you choose to stay faithful, you can start where you left off. If not, everyone just moves on.

The only time the word 'cheating' should be used is if you keep your relationship with the ME2 LI and rekindle Liara's in LOTSB. I wouldn't be surprised to see LIs snipe at each other during ME3--there's going to be a lot of stress, and a past/present lover is an easy target--but let's keep the 'c' word out of it.

If I recall correctly, that conversation with Kelly gives you the option of viewing it as moving on or not. He could say something along the lines of "What we had together is in the past now." So, it wouldn't be cheating in Shepard's perspective at least.

It depends. With Liara you can officially move on but with the VS its more complicated. To everyone annoyed by Horizon they took that as a break up when in reality the VS was just pissed and needed to let off some steam. Also if most of you have read the email its obvious your VS still has feelings for you and likely didn't want to end it on Horizon.

I agree in spirit but I don't think the end of the ME1 relationship happened on Horizon; I think it happened when you, you know, die.

Two years is a long ass time. If my gf and I were incommunicado for 2 years, I would assume the relationship was over.

The one way I could see it legitimately being called "cheating" is if you bang someone before the Suicide Mission and then do LotSB and get with Liara again. Or the other way around... do LotSB, do Liara, and then do someone before the Suicide Mission.

But yeah, you can't "cheat" on the Virmire Survivor.

No, I think it's been said there will be "negative consequences" for moving on.

It is possible to get back together with Liara in Lair of the Shadow Broker and then get it on with another squadmate anway. Now that I would call cheating.

I don't think that it's ever actually called 'cheating' in game. The other charcters seem to think that it's 'moving on' as well. Liara says as much if you talk about their relationship in her DLC. It will probably only cause a stir in ME3 if you choose your ME1 LI over your ME2 LI. I could see why they would be annoyed then. Otherwise I could see the ME1 guys just agreeing that you have both moved on.

I was really only with Ashley because Tali wasn't available.. I'll stick with her through 3 if allowed.

Though on an alternate playthrough, and my epic 3 in a row I may just stick with ashley the whole way and be true..... who knows...

exactly. Liara was cold in 2 she broke my shep's heart and he moved on.

Kaiden found a new girl my shep found a new man.

The only cheating scenario I can come up with for bw to have is they make parasini and shaila fling options if shep takes the bait and curtain situation checks are made in game his/her LI finds out and then we have a war.

but Liara was Ok with shep and tali

Kaiden well....she wrote him off after he called her a traitor so he can go drink ryncol for all she cares.

*IS SUPER HAPPY I STAYED FAITHFUL AND DIDN'T BANG MIRANDA IN THE ENGINE ROOM*

That negative consequence might actually be pretty intense. Like say the VS leaves at some stage or you can't continue the romance at all.

Hmm...It's something to ponder.

So if the VS is pissed off that Shepard is working for a Terrorist group that means its the end of the relationship? Honestly what can the VS do other than email? If the VS Joins shepard they would be betraying the Alliance. Neither Kaidan nor Ashley could do that. Especially Ashley since she had her family honor on the line.

Their isn't much they can do until the Suicide Mission is over and Shepard is brought back into the Alliance.
