Trust the guys to come along and #$%^ about women complaining about a cutscene that features a male romanceable NPC in a GAME.

Okay- how do I explain this in *simple* terms. The reason the women ask for a cutscene where Alistair looks even more disturbed is because Alistair is a romantic interest for women players. He is supposed to at least somewhat cater to a *fantasy*. If they are going to ask him to sleep with another woman for the sake of a relatively less traumatic ending, they want to feel like he LOATHED it. Is it realistic? No. But Alistair is a fantasy, a fictional character and need not behave the way guys do in real life.

If these characters were not supposed to cater to that fantasy, Morrigan could have hairy armpits and lice, Queen Anora could be a buck toothed ugly with a receeding chin and Leliana could have an STI that would cause your little warden to rot and fall off.

That being said, the reason why Alistair is not freaking out is because the cutscene for Alistair, Loghain and the male PC is the very same one. They did not think it worth putting in the resources for separate reactions from all of them. So be it. But it would have been comedy gold if Loghain actually thought of his dead wife putrid in a grave and could not get it up, causing Morrigan all sorts of grief.

I'd like the cutscene to change so that you don't see it. Just your PC outside the door looking pained/worried/angry or something.

EDIT: I mean is the PC supposed to be standing in the corner watching? Ew.

If they had the zots, this would make most sense to me.

If it is the PC scoring- then the cut scene makes sense.

It doesn't make sense to show a female PC what her so called lover is doing.

But Loghain has potential for comedy.

Seriously? Female characters can trade a one night stand for a fairytale ending. There's no ending in which my fictional character's love interest doesn't take off into the sunset without any form of closure. It being a game and all though, my character's trauma is not my own so I just appreciated it as a story twist. There's pretty decent parity, the church girl and the assassin both stick around and for the hetero-only options it's a bit bittersweet at the end no matter what.

Lamppost?

Given that Leliana has been a bard for several years, and brags about how many men she'd seduced, I assume she's carrying more than a tune. Luckily, between Wynne's healing magic and Morrigan's salves, she's probably fine aside from the occasional outbreak.

This shouldn't be TOO hard. (Yeah I said it) A few seconds long cutscene of the PC outside in the hallway. Maybe leaning back against the wall. A disturbed facial expression. A much more reasonable request than a completely different just as long and animated sex scene. It's probably something that could be modded.

I'm officially ill and worried.  Thanks!

Wait, does she apply healing before or after I have sex with her?

Are you refering to the cutscene as a "story twist" ? Because I am talking about the cutscene ONLY. Not the decision that leads to it.

The decision is a thing separate. So someone may decide to pimp him out. Some may not. That is their own call. However it is my argument that the cutscene makes more sense when the PC is the one making love. And doesn't make as much sense when the PC is watching her in game boyfriend making love to someone else.

That being said, meh. This is a theoretical discussion about how a decision is portrayed visually. Not about the nature of that choice. The PC was not there peeking, so what purpose does that cutscene have?  That is the limit of my discussion, really.

It's a bit of a story element that Alistair is lounging on the bed instead of huddled in the corner crying and praying the rosary or whatever, sure. I'd agree from the perspective of your character it's a tad weird seeing the cutscene, I guess the only other places that take you out of your character like that are the prison breakout and if you die at the end.

Dunno, it's not a biggee to me, I'd be fine if y'all got an option for a "happy" ending without pimping him out even. There probably is a bit of a gender disconnect, every woman gamer I know without exception is very concerned about the fine details of the Alistair plot hehe. Maybe since decent male love interests in games are few? No clue.

Only if the PC tells him to. You can refuse Morrigan's offer.  I believe Loghain can do it too if he is alive.

That's right if you chosed to spare Loghain she ask you to sleep with him instand of alistait... since well alistair would have leaved

You're offering a virgin consequence-free practice sex with an attractive woman who he's never going to see again, I don't think he's going to hate it even if he is the blushing boy around the love of his life :P

I don't know. Some virgin men are worried about going into bed with a very experienced and hot woman as they are to be compared with tonnes of more practiced men and might fall off short. Or early. Whatever the case. So I can imagine them being uncomfortable, stressed, worried and uneasy. Not to mention that the first is the best idea is mostly happening in Harlequin stories, but isn't the most true statement in RL.  He might like it in the end, seeing that she is practiced and all. Or not, seeing she is a selfish **** who hates his guts.

As for showing something you don't see, I don't believe this is the only scene that can claim that. After all, did you see Loghain hire Zevran? None complains about that. Although it is hardly likely that you were present observing it from a corner.

I personally am still amused by that cutscene. My char got her happy ending with him. Provided they don't get slaughtered by a group of darkspawn just the next corner when they adventure around.

Perhaps they shouldn't have had a cutscene at all. Fade to black still works!

A few things :

I was pretty upset when I learned I had to watch Alistair and Morrigan bump uglies. Yes, I'm calling it that because what they did, I feel, was not in any way the same as what Alistair and my character do / would have done. I actually had my eyes covered at the start expecting the worst but in the end, how the poor man is practically cowering and he *IS* cringing and backing away from her to the point of crawling up the wall behind him made me feel bad that it was me who talked him into doing the deed. I really didn't see him enjoying it or smiling about it, as some people say, but everyone interprets things differently. I saw a man grimacing in obvious dislike frantically repeating "happy place, happy place, happy place" in his head.

I do think the music could have been different though, yes. I think many of us equate it almost to "that's OUR song" no matter who you romanced. So it stung just that little bit more in the end and made me think "ugh what have I / we just done".

I think it's interesting that many people call taking Morrigan's offer the "happy" ending. None of them are really happy, they all involve sacrifice of some sort, some are just more blatant about it.

When it was all over, I couldn't help but have that niggling thought at the back of my head about what I / we had done, which I'm sure is what was intended. Of course the borked up slides at the end and the subsequent text boxes deflated me even more. I mean really, I wasn't expecting a huge 30 min+ playable epilogue but quite frankly the epilogue felt very flat all the way around. But that is another topic.

As an aside, my husband is playing through as a human noble who got Morrigan in the tent, then dumped her and got Leiliana in the tent (rolls eyes) and his companion's banter is quite different than mine in places. His party always has Morrigan in it and she says in one conversation spot to Oghren or Shale that she and Alistair are actually lovers and hitting the sheets pretty hard. THAT made me want to cut the b***h.

haha I suppose I am or was when I heard that, interesting to admit that. I really do get attached to my characters and companions. Kudos to the writers for exploiting my weakness! Then again, who's to say she wasn't lying just to get Oghren off her back? No idea why though ... prize piece of dwarfmeat that he is.

I do find it interesting that people read Alistairs/male PC/Loghains look differently.  We are all seeing the same thing... without seeing the same thing. :o

I had a great ending. I romanced Leliana and had Loghian do the dirty with Morrigan. Seems pretty good from my viewpoint.

Alistair might despise Morrigan, but he certainly finds her attractive (in a scary sort of way at least). I recall this conversation:

"I think she's beautiful, don't you?"
"Yes, beautiful like a storm...or a....dragon"

Image IPB yeah. I don't blame them for not making separate cutscenes since that's a lot of work and money Image IPB but hey, we fangirls have every right to fantisize just as you boys do Image IPB especially since I know there have been men complaining about Morrigan having a last bang with you and running off with your demon baby to never be seen again.

Am I the only one who is thinking that the developers must be laughing their arses off when they see topics like this? I can just picture them sitting in front of a computer screen drumming their fingers together evilly as they read over the responses to this topic. All the while snickering to themselves and muttering, "just as planned", as they watch the carnage unfold.
I don't know, I'm a would-be writer myself and I'd be blue in the face from the sheer hilarity of the situation if I ever came across a topic like this about one of my characters. No offense to the person who made this topic or anything, but this just strikes me as pure comedy gold for the writers. xD
