Take one of your favorite characters/squadmates/whatever.
Now imagine one MAJOR thing different about them. Swap species. Gender. Sexual orientation. Ideologies. Whatever. Everything else stays the same except this one trait.
What if Garrus was human? What if Miranda was a man and Wrex was female? What if Liara and Ash were exclusively gay? What if Thane was racist against humans? How would your perceptions change of them?
Seriously, think about it.
A fun thought experiment.
