It seems to be out (our coming out) for everyone relatively soon, so I'm creating a thread for people to discuss the changes to the gameplay aspects in the DLC. Bioware has promised to address quite a few gameplay concerns (raining men, little variance between encounters, etc), so post your thoughts on the changes here. Are the fights improved? Do you feel more challenged? How so? Do I look better with short hair, or long hair? These are all questions you should ask yourself as you go along.

As I promised, I'll be posting videos of the fights, and I encourage others to share and record, as well.

A special thank you to Bulletplay for giving me the MS points to purchase this. If not for him, I likely would've skipped it altogether.

I'm aware that this is the Gameplay forum, but please try to leave out spoilers if at all possible. All who have yet to play, read at your own peril, just to be safe!

Here's the Bethany build I used with my Warrior, meant to go along with my Warrior guide (link in signature). Click her name for the build/level-up guide.

Bethany - Companion for Warrior

Self: Health <25% - Use Potion
Self: Mana or stamina <10% - Use: Lyrium Potion
Hawke: Health <25% - Barrier
Varric: Health <10% - Heal
Enemy: Target rank is Elite or higher - Winter's Grasp
Enemy: Slowed - Use current condition for next tactic
Enemy: Target rank is Elite or higher - Crushing Prison
Self: At least one enemy is alive - Haste
Enemy: Target of Hawke - Use current condition for next tactic
Enemy: Target rank is Elite or higher - Hex of Torment
Enemy: Attacking Anders - Spirit Bolt
Enemy: Using ranged attack - Spirit Bolt
Enemy: Target at short range - Glyph of Paralysis
Enemy: Clustered with at least three enemies - Fireball
Enemy: Target between medium and long range - Firestorm
Self: Any - Activate: Elemental Weapons
Self: Any - Activate: Heroic Aura
Enemy: Using ranged attack - Attack

Notes

- This build is meant to be used in conjunction with Anders for Double Haste, and to hold Heroic Aura to free up his mana reserves

- A combo of unupgraded Winter's Grasp/Crushing Prison will root Elite+ enemies, rendering them completely immobilized (shout out to SB)

- Anders should have his Varric healing tactic turned off, splitting the healing load between himself and Bethany (Anders for Hawke, Bethany for Varric)

- Bethany's Barrier will grant Hawke 6 seconds of near-unopposed/safe Sacrificial Frenzy time

whoa, warden bethany starts with a pretty sick staff.

staff of the blighted heartwood

41 fire damage
+117 attack
+15% fire damage
+15% cold damage

char restricted, though. bethany only. can someone else post the stats for it if they're above level 20? i'm curious to see if staves still don't pass level 18.

fyi, i'm doing this at level 20, pretty much just before the qunari siege

All the achievements unlock when they're supposed to so that's good news.

So if you do this right in the begging of the game at about level six using a rogue archer you get a bow that has the stats:

64 physical damage (60 per second)
+2 Dexterity
Attacks ignore enemy armor
+6 electricity damage
5% chance to stun

Take note this is what the stats are if you start this quest at level six. I ended at level ten.

the fights are definitely a huge improvement, you actually feel that they're well thought out, as opposed to 'HALLELUJAH IT'S RAININ' MEN' all day every day.

sad to say that so far, the discrepancy between a ranged party and a melee party is only widening. my mages + varric will just absolutely crush spawns that myself or melee npcs would have to do a fair bit of walking to get to.

elemental mages, rejoice

there's an amulet that, at level 20, is giving +1 WIL and +19% fire damage

Having fun so far with my post saved Bethany, Varric, Fenris, and my prepatch high leveled dual weilder. Don't judge, just having fun atm, lol.

I am pretty sure I am on the last boss now. SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING: I really wish I had fitted out fire runes and brought fire resistant gear, I just lost my whole party like a noob, lol. I was the last woman standing for a good bit but then I couldn't figure out what to do next and just kept getting pounded by freaking fire, along with random ice drops and electrical currents. Was very ouchie. I will beat that fool though! Just you watch! :P

Took me 3 try's to beat last boss battle, but it was fun as hell. I loved it, great DLC. Now I just need to play through it with my warrior and Rogue (did mage first)

I'm really having trouble with that last boss. That fire attack he does just drains everyones health in seconds. I've tried repositioning everyone to run away from it, but I don't fancy doing that every 5 seconds while turning those pillars off. Is there something I'm missing?

If you and your party are standing by the column things that he gets his powers from then the fire does little to no damage. Just a tip.

Well it took me about 2 hours I think to complete it. The DLC lets you go back and forth from the DLC areas and the actual game areas if you go to certain statues. If I remember correctly it had like four or five areas one obviously being the final battle. Maybe it was more I was too busy having fun.

Stand by one of the column things or what ever they are that you go to before he awakes and that he gets his powers from. Tell your teammates to hold their ground and just go through them yourself. it isn't that hard to kill the ne or two shades that come from them and your teammates will take minimal damage from the fire being at the edge/out of the fires range way out their. It worked for me to an extent. It will help you and your party survive longer so they can do more damage when you're actually fighting the boss instead of the shades.

Not holding when told to do so? I think we found the first DLC glitch. XD

A question: I'm near the end (I think) of the DLC, I found 3 pieces of
the unique set (I'm missing the chest) and I have to enter the "Prison
Tower" is it normal or should I go back and look for it?

Quick question, When on Riannon's floor of the prison, there are various Power Nexus's scattered around and then a large room in the North-Est blocked by many different coloured barriers. I cannot seem to figure out how to get into this room and am pretty sure it has something to do with the Power Nexus's... Could anyone possibly offer some insight? Thanks :)
