No, not really.  If you pay attention on these boards (and indeed, to this very topic), you'll find many male players who prefer Hale's performance, and many female players who prefer Meer's.

I think they both portray Shepard the same way... based on moods. Sometimes Shepard is in the mood to be nice (Paragon) while other times Shep is not (Renegade).

Meer and Hale in the interview were talking about the Paragon/Renegade paths.

Most people gets quickly impressed by Jen's credentials on IMDB and they jump on "I hate Mark Meer" bandwagons just because he doesn't have a similar resume:lol:.

To all of them I say:


I appreciated Meer's work much more than Hale's because I think it's more in line with the character's default appearance, and he doesn't exagerates most of the lines as she does, specially in ME2.

And this is part of the problem. FemShep or ManShep, people shouldn't be attacking a character. You starting fights over ManShep/Sheploo makes you the same as FemShep haters. No need for preemptive strikes.

Mark Meer is great, people hate on him because barely anybody plays femShep going by the statistics, and so people who play only femShep either feel like they need to defend their choice or like her just because she has a female voice.

Marks voice is more ambiguous as well making it easier to suit different looking characters. Mark wins in my book.

OK, one:  18% is nearly a fifth of ME players.  That's not "barely anybody".  Two: stop making stupid, sweeping generalizations about the psychological motivations of thousands based on the idiocy of a few random people on a single internet forum.

Mark plays the Renegade Voice far better than Paragon. That said, I find his VO work to be just fine. I can't picture Shepard without his voice.

I like Hale and I find her work on Shepard is great, but Mark is just as good IMO.

To you, he doesn't work for me.  Meer's work as the paragon Shep leaves me feeling meh.  I actually rented ME from Gamefly before I actually bought it.  I thought Meer's VA was so bad, I returned the game to Gamefly before finishing Eden Prime.  He makes me not care about maleShep.  Then I picked it up for less than $20 used and played as femShep.  I fell in love with the game.  That to me makes all the difference in the world.   

This is also the only franchise, that I have ever liked playing a female.  As one myself, you'd think I would play all my games with females, but I don't.  Now I have two actually.  Dragon Age is another I play a lot with a female character.  
I have KotOR and I only used a female Revan to romance wussy boy Carth once.  All my other playthroughs were male.

I think Hale and Meer are both awesome as Shepard. But Shepard aside, I'm personally impressed by Meer's voice work with the characters (albeit minor) in the DA series.

In general women are smaller and physically weaker than me. I have no reason to be intimidated by them. If a woman came up to me and started threatening me, I'm sorry, but fear would not enter the equation. That is simply the way it is and there is nothing wrong with that.

And as an adult I'm not too worried about my mother being pissed off at me.

Pff, it's not you who's big ( you're small compared to most women where I live) it's that those guys are wimps.
