I love them both, they have their charm and different voice tones, so more variables. Variables are cool.

Not really, I'm cool with chill people, it's mostly just the manShep fanatics that get on my nerves.

But it's okay for you to act the same way when it's FemShep or Jennifer Hale?

@Dragon XIX

How about this? Shut the hell up and get out. You get your panties on fire just by knowing some people prefer Meer to Hale, we get it. So cry us a river please.

adorable.

and obviously Bioware would have picked such an abysmal voice actor for the main role in their game because they have no idea how to pick good VAs....they are utterly tasteless and incompetent right? I mean you believe he is possibly the worst VA ever Dragon, and your word apparently is dogma. It is so self evident and absolute that there is no other possible explanation. They probably didn't even audition...they just looked at Meer and said "oh yeah that fellow has lovely eyebrows. Let's give him the main role in our new multi million dollars project on the spot".

this thread is hylarious

haha, great post.

I have probably played male and female shepard an equal number of times (or close to it) and while my canon is a male I don't really have a preferance of one over the other. As fas as their .VA's go I think both of them do a good job and there are situations where Meer sounds better and other situations where Hale sounds better but overall I don't really find one better than the other.

I give your post a thumbs up.

I prefer Hale's voice, but I don't hate Meer's. Both are great voice actors. Like many people have stated already, I haven't really seen any Meer "hating" lately.

Personally I prefer Meer. Hale was too manly and all in your face. Every line she said either sounded like she wanted to kick someones ass or that she was coming on to you. Plus I played as man Shep for both games twice before I even dared going female. It just wasn't the same experience. Then again I love Hale in KotOR, to this day she is one of my biggest crushes because of her voice work in that game.

Meer sounded really, really good in the comic-con demo IMO.

I love Mark Meer's voice. I hate Jennifer Hale's voice as Femshep. Why couldn't she go back to Bastilla's voice? THAT I would have liked. But I tolerate her voice none the less.

I have never hand a problem with Meers performance, it just happens that Hale tends to do a better job.

This is the opinion that I hold also. Although I have occassionally toyed with the idea of doing a full maleshep run just to hear his performance, but I can't help but be a little thrown off by his Canadian accent - specifically the word 'aboot.' Everytime I hear an 'aboot' (and it's not just Meer, there are a bunch of Asari that say 'aboot' and it makes me laugh) it just takes me out of the story. Sorry, Canadians! Nothing against you personally, but your accent is not made for serious-making!

I don't have anything against Mark, but I do think Hale can convey nuances of tone with much greater skill.

They both have their ups and downs. Personally I thought Hale was always too flat-toned for the majority of her lines. Meer has his issues as well, but he always sounded more believable to me.

Plus my canon Shep is a Manshep, so I guess that also sends points Meer's way.

I'm probably gonna regret joining in on this discussion, but here's my take on Mark Meer's work on ME.

IMO, Meer did a solid job in ME2 voicing Male Shepard. What people call a monotone delivery is perfect for a soldier like Shepard. Most of the time he's all business in his dealings, but the moment things don't go according to plan or some idiot is f***ing with him, his voice adopts a subtle change in tone that makes him threatening, something Meer is very good at. It's one of the reasons playing Renegade MaleShep is fun, because Meer is so convincing at it. He's also great whenever Shepard takes an exasperated tone to express irritation, such as when deals with Conrad Verner on Ilium. And of course, his deadpan delivery of some lines, which are hilarious.

Shepard: Charge.

Personally I think Jennifer Hale did a phenomenal job with Femshep in ME2, but even she had some awkward bits. Meer deserves a lot of credit for making his performance distinct from Hale's.

LOTSB was proof that he could handle romantic dialogue really well. Wtiness Male Sheps romantic reunion with Liara on the Normandy. It's some of the best work Meer has done on ME.

Mark Meer is awesome as Shepard! I think he approaches the role with respect and care and provides us gamers with a very satisfying performance for a legendary character.

Honestly I love Jennifer Hale. She is one of my favorite voice actors and I can name numerous roles she's been in. Her voice acting is great and her role as Bastila is by far the best in my opinion. That said her role as Shepard is not great. It's good but she has done much better by far and when I compare Hale and Mark side by side as Shepard, Male Shep wins.

Both are guilty of being Blank soldier person in many scenes but I have seen male Shep display subtle emotions when Fem Shep just fell flat. Not to say she's always that way but as I have done numerous playthroughs with both, I felt that Male shep is just more believable in more situations. Jennifer Hale is still my favorite though. God I wish she reprised her role as Samus for other M. The voice actor they chose for it has half the blame why it got the bad rep it did.

Really liked Meer's performance. Though I have a "canon" Shepard for both sexes and I don't think either one is better than the other.

I'm late to the thread but here is my take on it, I found Meer to be better overall. The way I see it is that in number one he is a soldier straight and simple but as number 2 rolls around doubt begins settling in Shepards mind as to wether they will actually win, thus the more emotional parts at the end of LOTSB. However with Hale she seemed to be too extreme in all her dialogue but I only played as her for part of number 2. Just my opinion.

Prefer Hale, don't mind Meer though. I feel like they must give him some strange direction in the studio for him to deliver his lines with such a monotone... I hold it more against the voice directors than Meer himself.

Also, Mark Meer is cute.

In my opinion, Mark Meer does a far better job than Hale, and has in all the games. I love how he rolls, and wouldn't trade it up for everything.
