Oh boy oh boy.

Meer does a good job at voicing an apparently stoic soldier, and Hale isn't 'trying too hard to sound like a man'.

There, can we let it go now? Please?

I'll never forget Biotic God, that vorcha and Jethann. They - and their voices - are just brilliant.

About Shepards - both male and female ones have moments of cringeworthy voices ("I'm more interested in just _talking_ for a bit" for femShep/Jacob and "It's okay. Come here" for maleShep/Tali would come to mind first), both have great moments. I usually play as femShep more on the reasons completely unrelated to voice acting.

Oh, and did I metioned Mark Meer looks very good?

I prefer Femshep because Hale's voice because there seemed to be more emotional inflection in her voice. However, in some parts in ME2 and what I've seen in ME3, Meer's voice holds more emotion that makes mShep more human. So looking forward to see how he does in ME3.

So you saw the same demos that have been shown with male Shepard, only with female Shepard? Where are these at, I'd like to see them. If not, thats a pretty dumb statement to make since you have no material to make a comparrison.

I was comparing him to himself in the previous ME games. Perhaps I could've phrased that better than I did. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Everyone has their own preferences I guess, but in MY opinion and with my own personal bias of having some experience in the military, Meer does a far better job at doing commander Shepard. Seriously, if I had to be led by someone putting as much "emotional inflection" than Hale does, i'd be like "WTF". Then again, it's my own bias, but it was enough to make my femshep playthrough cringeworthy.

I prefer Meer. He is the voice of all of my Shepards, so that probably why.

Personal opinion
Maleshep -> Injects aggressiveness and sneering much better (A lot of renegade lines and the suicide mission cutscenes)
Femshep -> Injects non-aggressive emotions better (eg Samara's quest, the romance quests, Tali's quest)

When i hear Maleshep, i get the feeling that its time to get your blood up and pound someone, hard. When i hear Femshep, i get the feeling of victory not being assured but you'll bleed out before giving up.

Not this thread... again.

There's a reason why he has been refereed to as MonoMeer, it's because his acting for Shepard is rather monotone, all the time, every time. He does fantastic acting with every other character he has ever done, except Shepard. This of course is just an opinion, YMMV.

I agree.  I got into the series because my brother played it first and he showed me the female option.  But I watched him play for about a year before i picked it up.  The difference between Meer and Hale for me is Hale delivers her lines with passion, with oomph, with the spirit that defines the shep I am playing.  Meers voice is flat, dull, lackluster and not very intimidating.  I find myself cringing when I play man shep. and laughing when my brother is playing him on the xbox and I am playing femshep on my PC and my femshep nails it everytime with perfect emoting.

He really turned it around going into Mass Effect 2.

IMHO Meer's "perfomance" is actually a trillion times worse in Mass Effect 2.

I like them both, it's like 51.1% / 49.9% for Meers favor, just because I get a Bastilla vibe from Hale :)

Thats 101%.  Good to know that you like them both so much that it overflows!

Ah yes, the Timothy Dalton wanna be.

The real Timothy Dalton would make either the male Shepard and/or Hawke the ultimate bad ass (since he played James Bond and made Bond a bad ass again after Roger Moore finally left the series).

Meer and the guy who did the voice of Hawke are both just plain annoying at best and cringe worthy at worse.

Thinking about FemShep talking to Jacob makes me cringe. Why am I being all seductive when I'm asking about improving the ship?

Ugh yes that was awfull. I wonder what the writers were smoking when they determined FemShep always had to act flirty around Jacob, even if we didn't want her to.

Anyway, back on topic. I only played through the entire game once with a female character. Hale's voice acting is nice but I don't see why she's better than Meer. Mark Meer does a good job voicing Commander Shepard, though from time to time MaleShep does seem to have less personality and emotions than a brick. But I try to remember a large part of that is due to the lines themselves, not how they're spoken, and the lines themselves seem to be the writer's responsibility.

I hated Meer's voice in ME1 since he sounded too friendly as a renegade but he really improved in ME2 which means that I'm playing as MaleShep more.

Some people just don't have a sense of humor (or understand the concept of playing the Devil's advocate) I was trying to have some fun.

Now I don't hate Meer as a person or even as VA. but I don't like his performance as Shepard (the same with the Timothy Dalton wanna be who does the male Hawke in DA2). They don't work for me. Now If you like one or both them. Fine more power to you.

Seriously. Not this argue again... I thought we can all agree to disagree. But no, I must constantly be reminded that this is BSN.

I hate Hale's job on ME series with passion. She does a great job with her other games, but FemShep sounds so horrible to me that my ear literally bleed everytime I hear a her.

I like Meer tons better.

Does that mean Meer > Hale? NO.

This is my opinion and it's just that, an opinion. Everything everyone says on this thread is an opinion. Theirs.

In reality, I'm pretty sure they both did a good job since both got their fans. But I just can't stand Haleshep.

I prefer Hale because she was awesome in Eternal Darkness and Brutal Legend, in fact at the only male character I like in games at the moment is Ezio from AC, my noble six and hawke are female as well as my shepard, I blame metroid prime for my female bias lol I also intend to play as anya in Gears 3
