Meer is a pretty good voice actor, actually. The amount of miscellaneous characters he voices that don't even sound the same is impressive.

Like Mordin in the ME3 demo.

Agreed, I can easily pick out the same VA that does Gianna Parasini and the asari npcs on Illium and the news station.  I was surprised when I learned Meer did other voices that sound nothing like him.

I prefer Mark Meer, When I listen to Femshep it always sounds like she is very angry or is smelling something stinky. Mark puts more 'feeling' in his voice acting

Meer? If Hale didn't do Brutal Legend I'd have no respect for her.

Personally, I'd put Mark Meer over Jennifer Hale in VO talent.

But, that could also be just me not really knowing Meer's work outside of ME. Jennifer on the other hand, has been a staple in video games as far back as the original MGS, and the fact that her voice range today is exactly the same as back then doesn't really endear me to her.

Edit: For those who don't know, Hale VO'd Naomi Hunter in MGS1 and 4. Her voice literally hasn't changed in 13 years.

Meer's voice is just perfect for a Commander Shepard to me .

I like the combination between Sheploo's face and Mark Meer's voice. They're a perfect match in my opinion. That's why I enjoy playing the default John Shepard so much.

I have to admit, some of Meer's Paragon lines are a bit creepy, but Meer nailed almost all the neutral and Renegade lines. Hale on the other hand mostly nails the Paragon lines while she's not so good at Renegade and actually quite terrible at the neutral lines (in my opinion that is).

Edit: Hey someone should start a Mark Meer fan club if there isn't one already. If there already is a Mark Meer fan club, can someone please invite me? :D

Are people actually complaining about Meer? I didn't know... I like them both and the differences that they bring in not just their voices but their inflections. It really makes it seem like you're playing a completely different shepard and not a different gender shepard.

What specifically are Meer-critics reacting to in his voice acting? I suppose he can come off as a little dead pan or flat in affect from time to time, but even then I could excuse such affectation (or lack thereof) due to appropriate characterization; after all, Shepard (male or female) IS a de facto space commando, not a tenor at the NY Metropolitan Opera.

And there's an appropriate wry sensibility brought to bear in his more humorous moments, e.g., asking for clarification that Mordus was in a Gilbert & Sullivan musical. Some of his romantic lines are a little heavy-handed, but I blame that more on the writing of those particular scenes than Meer's voice acting. Just think about what those poor actors in the Star Wars prequel trilogy had to work with....

Whewww. Dead on arrival, man.

I thought he was pretty bad in ME1 but in ME2 his work was absolutely fantastic. I personally think he did a better job than Hale in the second one. Looking forward to seeing work from both of them in ME3.

May I wask you why you think this? Personally I don't hear much difference between Meer's acting in ME1 and his acting in ME2.

Yes, his acting in ME2 was a little better, but the difference between ME1 and ME2 where not really big as far as I could hear.

I just don't like how he never changes his tone, there's never really any emotion in his voice.

Meer has the perfect voice for my custom Shepard.

Hale has the perfect voice for my FemShep.

They both had their moments of awesome and awkward... seem pretty equal to me.

Hale is better than Meer, no question there. But no point getting up in arms about it.

I think she is a better Paragon, he is a better Renegade. I like them both, but I prefer Hale anyway.

In ME1 he sounded very stiff to me.  Like someone who didn't really believe he could be a voice actor.  In ME2 he sounded like somone who was a lot more comfortable.  I heard a real difference in tone and inflection based on what he was saying.  I never really heard that in ME1. Which is the opposite of what I feel about Hale.  I thought she was outstanding in ME1. In ME2 she sounded flat to me at least compared to Meer.

Hale's been using the same montone voice for 15 years. Her emotional range is literally flatline.

You think so? To me Shephard sounds totally different form Bastila.
