I just don't like how he never changes his tone, there's never really any emotion in his voice.

Hale's been using the same montone voice for 15 years. Her emotional range is literally flatline.

Really? Thats interesting,  I always thought she sounds over done myself...the opposite.

Some of you people are kind of missing the point as has happened often in the past in regards to the player character leads in these games. The actors can't and shouldn't try too hard to put too much emotion into their roles. If they did people would all be up in arms that they as players would not say things in such a manner. Thus they keep similar tone throughout and don;t go overboard one way or the other.

MGS> MGS4> ME > ME2, she's used the exact same voice for that entire time span. There are of course, many people in the VA industry who can only project one tone, and very few who actually have range (Mark Hamill and Phil LaMar just off the top of my head).

Meer's lines are delivered a little too flatly for my tastes. He will threaten or deliver angry lines in a kind of ominous monotone for instance (for the most part.) It always seemed like he was going for some sort of "I don't even need to emote to be threatening" kind of thing. I never liked this. The number one place I don't like his voice is in the Tali romance. "Come here" just sounds...creepy to me. The main two places that Meer's voice doesn't work for me are in emotive moments which are supposed to be softer like romances and then when Shepard is supposed to be pissed off.

Personally, I can tell Naomi Hunter, Emma Emmerich, and Commander Shepard apart, even if I can also tell they're all voiced by Hale. It's not a broad range, true, but some VAs are even closer to having zero variation and still give great performances (Tony Jay comes to mind here).

I think he's one of the worst VO I've ever heard. And I've heard plenty.

I never understood that.  I always hear emotion in his voie, he just isnt wearing emotion on his sleeve. Almost like he was a space marine.

Meer is very subtle about the emotion in his delivery. I like his performance. He's perfect.

Having said that, I also like Hale too.

They both have their pros and cons. Sometimes Hale delivers a line better, and sometimes Meer nails it.

I love Mark Meer. I am female and generally only play FemShep, but started a ManShep run through JUST to enjoy the renegade lines in Meer's voice. His renegade delivery totally kicks ass and I really do feel like I'm playing an entirely different game.  I also played a female renegade, but Hale's renegade delivery is not nearly as entertaining as Meer's is.

Tony Is quite inept. But he's at least no Lori Alan (The Boss MGS3). My god is that woman the most drab and boring VA in history.

Mark Meer is the sole reason I don't play more Mansheps. I just can't stand his (lack of) talent.
Having said that, I will say that I greatly prefer ME1 Femshep to ME2.

Ya. i don't see why everyone is so down on Meer and up on Hale. I've played both and their about on par.

They're both great voice actors. They both had lines that were acted better then the other. I think Hale gets extra props for FemShep as a consolation for the fact that most players play Male Shep and don't want to dis her. I'm the same way, I play Male Shep but I'll prop up Hale out of respect.

I'm glad that they both have their own style with Shepard.
I would never play as a Paragon femShep, she always sounds like a Renegade to me.
And why bother? I can have my stoic Paragon with manShep!

I just can't understand that people like to play the game with the same VA, over and over again, it seems so monotone to me.

I like Meer's voice acting though I do enjoy Hale's version of Shepard a little better. It defines the character of Shepard differently between the genders despite having the same dialogue. I think they both do a good job and their different perspectives on who Shepard can be is the reason why I played ME 1 and 2 at least twice all the way through.

Really is down to personal tastes huh....Personally I like Meer's ominous flat tone when Sheps p*ssed off...I always find the cold (ice) anger a lot more frightening than the hot (fire) anger....when people go for hot anger, you can generally get an idea of what they may do, the cold icy anger though is unpredictable, you don't know what their going to do and if they do act it's usually a lot worse....Is why I like Meer's cold, ominous delivery.

I perfer Hale over Meer, that doesn't mean I hate Meer's VA though. I think he suits perfectly for a male Shepard. I just prefer to play female for gender reasons that should be obvious. ._.

Jennifer Hale: 239 works.
Mark Meer: 27 works.

The producers prefer her, because she is popular, because she is a great voice actress according to the majority.

If you don't like her, then that's a personal opinon.  Hale is better, and that's fact.

Agreed. Meer's range seems leaps and bounds ahead of Hale's. Just because Meer respects player's enough not to try to trample all over their Sheps characterization by going from a shrieking banshee to someone who wants to pet puppies does not make him a bad voice actor.

I prefer Hale, but I still think Meer isnt as bad as many says, mostly I dont think his voice fits Sheploo though, but I never play Sheploo, so that's not a problem.
