There was a poll awhile back on who people preferred as Shepard, and Meer won. Not only did he win, but it wasn't even close.
The perception that a lot of fans don't like Meer's performance isn't really true. Like you said, it is just an extremely vocal minority.

Meers work is shoddy for a paragon, He is perfect for the renegade. Hale is good at both. That is the difference.pmac_tk421 wrote...
Ya. i don't see why everyone is so down on Meer and up on Hale. I've played both and their about on par.

I know everyone says how much a better VA jen Hale is And she is talented But i just did a quick start up of a ME2 Fem Shep And Male Shep Side by side and I dont See Why people are hating on Mark Meer I think He does a fine Job Both him and her nail lines and both miss some i just wish people would stop whining about these type of things what do you guys thinkand if you like mark meer let it be Known
Since femsheps make up only 18% of Shepards, I can only assume that it is a loud minority attempting to "justifiy" their choice to play as a female. Why they feel they need to down Meer's voice acting? I don't know. If you like playing as a female that's fine. No need to claim maleshep has a bad voice actor or that you like looking at pixel booty.

Nope. Works just fine here. Didn't care much for the icequeen performance of Hale renegade thou.

Dammit people. If you are going to say that meer has no range, at least listen to all of the people he plays as first.
I find Mark Meer's ability to manipulate his voice from several angles- pitch, how nasal it is, whether it sounds 'old' or 'young'- to be incredible.
I also think he made male Shep sound like two steps from derptard. I have no idea why. but there's so little emotional inflection that he actually manages to sound like a generic NPC, whereas all these other characters have a richness brought around by his voice. It annoys me, because I consider it a waste.
Where as I think it is the perfect amount of emotional inflection for the role he is playing. He sounds like a life time soldier to me. There is emotion there, it just isn't being trumpeted.

Hale sounds bored, tired and nonchalant. A female voice just isn't intimidating. Definitely wouldn't be my first choice for a renegade.

we so need another one of these threads.
Meer vs Hale never gets old NEVER!
I feel like a broken record at this point.
Male shep sounds bored and detached from the events around him.
Fem sounds like a human trying to do the best she can.

Agreed. When someone says something like this, I assume they're bluffing, and that they tinkle a little bit whenever a woman talks to them.bleetman wrote...

Hale actually has more fans than Meer. Maybe not in Mass Effect, but that's not the only big gig she's done.
Also, zero advertising so far.

Why not? We don't like him, we say so. What's the definition of discussion again?

I don't care about their preference. Hale is higher on the VA food chain, and they don't seem to understand this.

Think about it this way, hon... The smoking hot man in my icon has been in all the commercials and advertisements for Mass Effect, and the Aryan Princess if your icon took years and years to be approved. Less than twenty percent of Mass Effect players use your Shepard, and the rest use mine.
So, by your logic, male Shepard is in fact the better one because he's used more often. Mark Meer wins.
Less than 15% use your smoking hot monkey, so that would mean femShep is better than Vanderloo.
And my icon is not the new wouldbe default.

Sure, but Meer is not.

Or, we can use my logic, and accept that the Hale has been in more works than Meer, but that doesn't make her "better" or your preference for her a "fact." You can like her and think she's better, but that's just your opinion.
I'm aware. I'm a preemptive femShep defender, I have to drop bombs when I can.
Though I admit, my arguing skills suck atm. Be back later.

I resent that. I can be pretty intimidating. The Twilight God wrote...

But that's not the point. I like both Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale; they both have their pros and cons as Shep. Then again, with voice acting -- specifically done in the way a lot of shows and games do (i.e. recording one person at a time) -- there are typically slight irregularities in speech and reactions to things, which is unfortunate (though this isn't always the case).
I've played both male and female Shepard and adore both performances. With that said, however, I must say that I much prefer the method of protagonist responses featured in more traditional RPGs like Dragon Age: Origins, Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, and so on.
But for what we're given (the dialogue wheel), I think both do a pretty good job.

Its because of scheduling that they have one actor at a time or for accuracy?

A female voice can be VERY intimidating....an icy cold flat tone from male or female would make you wonder if that person is going to etch your heart out with a rusty spoon with a cold dead look in their eyes...Yes, I would find that tone intimidating from man or woman....

Could be quite a good discussion, if some people weren't so insecure Dragon....you need to attack other peoples preferences, why?
