I initially gave DA2 7 / 10 for many obvious reasons, but Legacy addressed a lot of them and it wasn't a bad DLC. I now give DA2 8 / 10, still no DAO, but not a bad game anymore. I would be interested in more DLC's if they are of Legacy quality and same with expansion packs.

Something that I think was neat and perhaps could be explored further was the whole Key weapon concept and how you could customize/enchant it during the course of the DLC. It could be a good way to simplify inventory management in the future and cut down on clutter while still allowing a good sense of customization and freedom for the player.

It's easier if I list pros and cons.

Pros:

Allowing Hawke's sibling to accompany them (as opposed to being locked in the Gallows)

Enemy A.I. and spawning locations are far more realistic than most encounters in the game

 Trap levers in strategic spots

Level design makes the maps actually feel like a sprawling (albeit ruined and linear) dungeon

I really like the genlock's new look and the alphas are nice additions

Puzzles were unexpected, but enthusiastically welcomed

Voice acting really shines in this add-on

Story.  Seriously, this was much better than what I expected (Hawke ancestor creating a type or darkspawn or some other predictable garbage)

A final battle that was actually challenging without resorting to Bone Pit dragon style tricks?  Appreciated.

Cons:

Untainted Grey Wardens simply dropped into the mix with no lead-up

Weak armor at higher levels (access to Warrior item dlc renders the Warden goodies almost useless)

The ending.  Oh, the ending.  Kill it with fire is the only option?  It's (he's) a relic that could answer important questions.  Dangerous and possibly insane, sure, but wouldn't you be after everything that happened?

Conclusion:

I've got to give it 4 out of 5; very good, but not perfect.

Just finished

My pro/con

Pro
  • Loved the story, especially the hint given by the last boss fight
  • The new areas bring some fresh air to the ambient recycle
  • Wave mechanics used how it should be from the start
Cons
  • For what i saw the bonus you can add to M key are kinda meh, but i've made just a playthrough with a high level party so i'm not sure if they remain with the start value
For what i can say this was a worthy buy, well done BW

Am I the only one that wasn't that keen on the last boss fight? It just seemed like it was a simple strategy whose execution was made unnecessarily difficult by the game's control scheme, thus making me feel like I was fighting the UI rather than the boss.

Enjoyed it. Wasn't quite LotSB, but then DA2 isn't quite ME2 is it so it's not really a fair comparison. I will say that I rate Legacy above any of the other DA DLC, although I know that's not saying much.

Pro+
+ New combat was much better - each fight felt handcrafted. More of this please. Much more.
+ Interesting lore additions, extra codex pages were great.
+ Story was good, both in terms of Hawke's personal journey and the lore of Thedas.
+ Final fight was epic, easily the best DA fight I've played.
+ Companion banter standards kept.
+ New areas. I almost didn't put this as a + because to be fair this should never have been an issue with the core game, but at least it's being rectified.

Con-
- Gear itemisation is still absolutely terrible. The "star" rating adds nothing to it and the stats are still all over the place. I really hope this is looked at. I know that it's less to do with the DLC and more to do with DA as a whole (Origins was no better at this, really), but so much other stuff was fixed up this stood out like a sore thumb.
- Final fight, while awesome, was a little too easy. I one-shotted it on nightmare, though this may have just been because of my party setup and character builds. The healer (Bethany) died in the second phase of the fight and Varric went down in the third, but my (tank) Hawke and Fenris finished the rest of the fight without issue and it was supposed to be getting harder.
- Linear. This is really just a preference - I'm not against linear content as a whole, and I'm not one of those people who claims open is in any way superior (I just see it as different) but I would prefer some open DA2 DLC at some point. This wasn't it.

To be honest though, most of my cons are nitpicky. I thought it was excellent, and while I got more value out of my other DLC purchase this month (Old World Blues - 12 hours, 800 points) at present, I do expect to play Legacy at least two more times and feel that the bar has been raised for DA in general.

Bioware DLC is NEVER worth the cash.  I love these fools that keep buying this crap and putting money in their pockets.  Where did full blown expansions go?  Oh, wait, some genius figured the idiots would buy it in small pieces and hense the birth of DLC.

Arrogant much?

Well, I'm one of those fools/idiots.  I've already gotten several hours of play for my $9.99.  It was worth it.

Very good DLC, Bioware.  Best one I've played, short of LotSB.

A true expansion would be much appreciated, though.

Wow! Really beautiful scenery on PS3. Like someone commented Carta et al, pop out of nowhere so stay focused. End fight easily harder than Super Dragon in bone pit and Meredith combined, even on casual. Loaded my 25 level mage from completed story and took Carver (Grey Warden), Aveline (you're gonna need muscle), and Varric. Great story conversations with Hawke mage and grey warden Carver going to old warden prison. Varic chats up all his carta acquaintences. Alpha's not easy to kill even with runed and powered up characters and weapons so stock up on health polices or healing potions. Will definitely play through with different combinations of characters to see what else is hidden! Well worth the $10 on ps. Keep 'em coming.

PROS:
* Really liked the information we were given on Hawke's family, and the main boss.
* Fitting characters like Varric and Anders into the storyline was an excellent touch.
*The way combat situations were set up was nice, obviously some thought was put into it.
*References to previous events from Origins in Awakening was a nice and surprising touch.

Cons:
*Too short, but to be expected from Bioware DLC. That said you will probably get your value on it because chances are you'll play through the DLC again in future playthroughs.

Overall I'd say 9/10 for the DLC. Granted I enjoyed DA 2 ( not as much as Origins, but still) so if you absolutely hated DA 2 this probably isn't for you.....kinda goes without saying though.

If my few Euros (Or in this case my sister's) will add to the probability of more stellar content ala Legacy being released, I'll be a fool. Happily. I'll take Legacy over Awakening any day. As in: Better a kickass DLC than a half baked expansion.

Overall a (+) for me:

PROS:
-Not Kirkwall, new environments were well appreciated.
-New armor that was comparable to the Champion Armor
-Better party banter
-Expanded on DA Lore was a huge plus!
-The personal involvement some companions had to the story / side quests.
-Enemy Waves were handled much better

CONS:
- The darkspawn look. I still am not a fan of the new artlook for the darkspawn. Darkspawn should be CREEPY. Not big and slobbery.
-The 2 Handed Sword was awful looking. (The handle was as long as a yard stick and as thick as hawkes neck....Really?)
-Companian AI in the last boss fight was horrible.

Cons:

There was an odd pathfinding glitch during the Corypheus fight (when you had the entire party move past a certain point, some teammates will run straight towards a rock wall and not run around it).

Hawke's Key customizable upgrades are really lame when compared to some of the weapon effects from the main game.

Hawke's Key artwork is... well, not what I hoped for in an "epic" new weapon.

A little on the short side.

Final fight was nice, but the pattern "of attack -> run around in circles" got really old after the rocks popped up.

Not a lot of side quests. Maybe 2-3 more would have made it more satisfying.

Pros:

Deeper storyline (at least imo) = excellent.

Party banter is pure gold. Arguably much better (if not slightly better) than the main game.

Genlocks make a return, very nice!

Genlock Alphas remind me of the upcoming ME3 Cerberus Shock troopers with the riot shields. Too bad there's no way of ripping out the Genlock Alpha shields, if not temporarily.

Scenary is much different and varied across the whole place. That earns major points in my book.

so far only played as a 2 dagger wielding rogue-diplomatic

In my opinion..

enjoyed the dlc. liked how it had multiple paths you could tak to change the outcome, different dungeon designs and enemies, and that enemies are not just constantly appearing out of thin air. The story was  interesting too.

I did not like the design on the warden armor, made me feel like a rip off Captain America. Playing it post game it was really easy ( this is on normal) though for this i could always up the difficulty. Would of liked the dlc to be longer but i say that about any game/download content.

Overall a really good dlc i give it a 8/10- Keep more coming

Some thoughts about my experiences after playing the DLC once...

I like the new environments. These not only looked good, but they also felt large and still had enough details.

Instead of the waves dropping from thin air the enemies came from logical positions. However, the trick to pop them up when you were looking in the other direction was still used. It also didn't make sense that enemies were still able to appear in places which you just cleared.

The clickable view points were a nice touch, because you felt something was going on and saw enemies on the move. However, the feeling that the enemies were on the move immediately disappeared when the cinematics ended. It is easy to forget that the cinematics were great, because by now we are rather spoiled by them.

I liked the new banter. However, the companions were talking about how they didn't like these Deep Roads even before they got in there.

Although I did like the voice acted parts, the story line was simply there to make you defeat a final boss. By that I mean that it didn't drew me in as a story by itself. It was more like that it was nice to know what happened to your father. The story felt like a construct. Maybe that's because the writers have to find rationalizations to make dialogue come back to the main storyline.

Like in the main game I was not connected to my family, so the scenes with your mother could have been left out. It was nice to see Bethany or Carver were available as companions.

Like the main game you saw the events unfold, rather than taking an active part in it. I still have to play it a second time to see how it changes with different decisions, but I have the feeling the differences are cosmetic again and warp back to the same story events.

In loot it was nice to see a significant amount of gold, but the armor and weapons found were disappointing. The armor was not high end and there was no reason to use it. The DA2 end game armor was still better. I didn't use any of the jewelry I found. The ones I found or bought in the main game were better.

The puzzles didn't amaze me. These were just forgettable parts to get past.

The final boss fight was too gamey and felt like the high dragons you had to slay in the main game. Again I don't like that there was no place to hide and that the boss was able to damage you while he was invulnerable. That really annoys me. It feels like grinding to survive.

Compared to some of the DA:O DLCs this one is much better. The overall feeling is that the devs gave this DLC a lot of attention. The DLC tried to improve the parts that a lot of us didn't like in the main game. It feels odd to praise that, because these shouldn't have been in the main game at all. Still, if this DLC is a glimpse of what to expect in DA3 then that game might be much better. Of course a DLC is not able to change the core gameplay mechanics, so I leave that out of it.

I think it was worth the money and I will definitely play it again. :)

Edit: Added a clarification to the conclusion.

I've played it a second time now. I've chosen the opposite options of the first run. Instead of a rogue I played a mage. Everything plays out the same. In te end you have dialogue with another character, but you still fight the same boss. That means, just ike the main game, any decisions have only cosmetic impact. I hope DA3 is better than that. Because of the warping back to the main story line (i.e. defeating the end boss) the dialogues become just as rationalized as DA2. It feels constructed and does not satisfy me. Still, I stick with my overall conclusion that when compared to some of the DA:O DLCs this one is much better.

I liked  how your party NPCs were written but that's about it. The main story was complete ****: Oh look big bad evil, SLASH, MAIM, MURDER!

Do I honestly care this guy was a magister from the very First Blight and that the Chantry was right? NOPE. Codex entries from DA:O revealed everything this guy did.

Is it the best DLC of Dragon Age....well on an overall sense...yes ( as in gameplay, locations, story ) but in terms of just raw story I think  Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep beat it.

Gameplay it wasn't special except the final boss, which was interesting. At least Bioware riped WoW off properly this time.

Best Dragon Age DLC. There, I said it. While I believe that is true because the others were a bit sub-par, there were elements that I really liked:

-full party banter and dialogue - no more mute companions
-variety of locations - well, we all know the main game lacked that
-boss battles - the secret boss was challenging, while the last boss was at least something different from what we were used to (and no, I did not find party movement to be difficult)
-story - nothing extraordinary, but pretty good overall; liked the "family" moments
-sheer length - I don't recall spending 3 hours on any other dlc

Now, can we get an expansion that follows the same recipe?

Yeah I liked that. It really is basically a rune system with a more diverse set of runes. I'd love to see them not add compnaion armor back in but allow me to adjust and trick out the armor they already wear with a more varied set of runes on it than + to armor and + to resistance.

Um... that's how these games work.  There's always a big bad evil, and you always have to kill it.  Complaining about it is kind of like complaining that there's always a shootout in the westerns.  Or that the girl and the guy always get together in the romcom.

Whatever.  Haters gonna hate.
