Well, of course that's true, but you didn't say that before, now did you?

You compared it the Harvester/Orsino scenario, which was a complete rehash from GoA. I was pointing out that the battle with Corypheus was completely original. In that context, I asumed you would be able to figure out what I meant instead of guess that I thought there were two different versions of the same battle.

What part of my review did you get when I stated, and this will be essentially a third time now I state that I cannot iniitiate the convos on my own. It was a major gripe of mine in DA2 and still is in Legacy (though claims of change were there, just only in combat). I want to convos to happen when I click on companions and then chat, not scripted to do engage in convos. Ambient convos are fine and I like them, but they have no input from my behalf.

You said there was no real companion interaction, which I pointed out isn't true. Simple. You never originally said that you wanted to initiate the dialogue yourself. If that's your definition of companion interaction, then I guess you're right by your own terms, but I was origianlly unaware of those.

This is lovely. The combat was engaging, the spawning waves spawned out of rooms and from around corners rather then from mid air, stuff doesnt EXPLODE when I throw fireballs at it anymore..

and the inner Anders fangirl made me squeel during my Andersmance playthrough. My Belamance playthrough had me giggling at all her awesome.

What had me sad, was that Fenris really has no acknowledgment on the romance. Mind you, he's not designed to be someone who'd paw over his love.. but Varric or Sibling or Anders or another person should at least make some comment to it! And have him grunt. And have Hawke sigh. SOMETHING. *flail*

*sniffles*

Otherwise, I love this dlc. Utterly worth the money,

Having just finiched the legacy DLC I thought I would provide some feedback. In the intrests of full disclosure I wish to put on record at the start that I was less than impressed with DA2 (thats not to tread over old ground) but rather to point out how far things have improved with respect to the DLC.

Story:

Story wise the premise is engaging and sucks you right in compelling you to forge ahead. This was somthing i felt was sorly lacking in DA2 so well done writting team, The road to redemption starts here..

There are intresting side quests that I actualy wanted to root out and finish each with there own nugits of lore and story. Companiions have some nise interjections . I played as a roguw post end game.

Combat:

First thing to say here is I had to think (and thats a good thing. while I'm not thriled with the underliing  combat system I have to say it was barly aparent here. Fights are tactcal in a way the main game never was. Gone are the endless waves. You have to use the enviorment if you want to win.Spam ablitys are well much less spamy.

Puzzle  elements are welcome and not overly frustrating..

I found myself wishing the main game was as  compeling as the dlc quite honistly.

Is It perfect? No, it wont erase the souwer taste many have for the main game. But it is a reminder tof the greatness we know and expect in (an all to short) but compeling bite size chunk.

So From A big DAO  Fan and Da2 critic. Well done team. More of this sort of direction please. In the words of
Sebastian, " its a start" It wont undo the past but  The road to redemption (at least for me) starts here.

Thanks

I really was not disappointed by Legacy. The combat felt tighter and more focused, and I must have searched every nook and cranny for every last scrap of lore I could lay my hands on. Some nice new toys to play with always helps sweeten the pot, but, in my mind, the stand-out elements of this dlc pack were the story and script. Joining my sarcastic mage Hawke were Anders (my mage's LI), Varric (his best friend) and Carver (of the Grey Wardens), and am I glad I took those characters! From Anders' dual-struggle with Vengeance and his Warden past, to some surprising info about Bianca's past and the revelations the Hawke siblings discover about Malcolm Hawke - all of which was wrapped up in some inspired (and humourous) writing - the plot held my attention from start to finish. The reveal regarding the 'Ancient Evil's' nature left me in a tiz, too.

A minor gripe I had was with my companions' AI when facing the final boss, as they had a tendency to allow themselves be nuked by its most powerful attack, but it resulted in Hawke facing him alone in a tense battle of attrition, which felt both epic and appropriate, given the ties they shared. Also, I'd have liked to have been involved in the fight with the Carta Hawke alludes to at the beginning of the quest, but that's neither here nor there.

Top marks, then, to what is, in my mind, tied with Lair of the Shadow Broker as Bioware's finest piece of dlc. Well done.

Well, here's my feedback so far:

1.  There's . . . a huge griffon statue in my house.  I was figuring they'd add a new area to the map or something.  It looks kind of . . . chintzy.  Sigh.

2.  Lemme just get Act1 just about finished before I . . . okay, ready.  Oh man, do we have to do this in medias res no lead-up thing again?!  SIGH.

3.  Hey, this is kinda neat.  I like these fights with the traps and stuff.

4.  Crap, forgot to sell, now my inventory is full.  *2 seconds later* HECK YES I WANT TO GO BACK TO KIRKWALL.  (This was literally super magic awesome placement, btw.  I found the "checkpoint" statue just when I picked up the last item that filled my inventory.)

5.  This is neato.  I like the viewpoints.  Some good atmosphere going on here.

6.  Hey, that dude was in the video!

7.  You know, I freed the Architect, am I a hypocrite?  No, that was different.  Ooh, puzzles!

8.  This fight is nuts.  Great, two of my party members are down.  Time for A Hawke (My character this playthrough is named Arekke) and B Hawke (Arekke is a rogue so I have Bethany) to two-man it!

9.

10.  EVIL DEVS EVIL EVIL EVIL EVIL EVIL!!!!!!!!!

So I'm thinking that all adds up to an overall quite positive experience.

One thing - might want to look at some triggers - Anders asked me if I'd heard from Carver in the Wardens at all, while he was standing right next to them both...

This happened to me as well, though I thought it was Carver asking about Carver, whihc was even more confusing.

I really loved this DLC - definitely the best out of all DA DLC, imo. I have only done one run (and plan more), but I enjoyed the banter and new dialogue for Varric and Anders, and Mage Bethany was great. The fights were tactical and fun, and the puzzles were just difficult enough not to frustrate but keep things interesting. I also had no complaint over the price with over 3.5 hrs of gameplay and such a well-done job on the whole DLC.

If I had any gripe it would be small and PS3 related. It was a bit laggy during certain fights, and the sound would go a bit wonky until the fight ended. Other than that, I definitely enjoyed myself and can't wait for more!

Just finished the DLC on my third Hawke try. My first two were lower-level, and didn't have many good tricks up their sleeves, and ended in tears (ok, I jest).

Wow. What an awesome DLC. I'd put it on par with the Shadow Broker. I was pleased to see that BioWare listened to fan feedback, and implemented pretty much everything they possibly could, short of changing actual gameplay... Although I will say that I could still do without all the junk. :)

Way better than any DAO DLC. Bravo, BioWare. I can't wait for the next installment!

i also forgot to mention the ending conversation after the dlc.

Which, To my COMPLETE surprise, actually made me go "Awwww..."
something the actual game never managed to make me do.

i like to feel this way.
I still don't like DA2, i like the DLC for it.
this doesn't fully convince me because the core problems of the DLC are the same ones for the game, and i know they will never go, not for the game.
But as someone who hated DA2, i am now fully interested to see what DA3 will have to offer.

AAAAAND i also like that this place seems to have finally calmed the F**k down a bit with all the hate, something i, i harsh critic of DA2, was starting to get annoyed by, hopefully it will last.

Loved it made DA2 worth playing over again felt like I was playing DAO cant wait to try it with different classes now, just 1 little thing for me though it is the way u start the dlc would of been cool if u could start it from the map instead of clicking on a statue that seems to come from no where or a side quest to get the statue or something a lil different, but overall it was realy good :)

I loved everything about the DLC. I did my first play thru with my post-campaign dual weapon rogue, grey warden Bethany, Varric and Merrill. I'm going to start a new (8th playthrough) campaign and play the DLC with a newbie character now, to see how challenging it is.

Some feedback --

-- The combat has a much improved feel to it
-- The redesigned Genloks and Hurloks were awesome
-- The puzzles were just the right challenge. It took me about half an hour to solve the beams of light puzzle to get the helmet.
-- Great storyline and banter between party members. Especially love Merrill and Varric conversations.

A couple of negatives
-- I felt the boss fights were a little too easy. This may change when I play thru it as a newbie hawk instead of a decked out end game rogue.
-- I wish it was a little longer, but for 9.99 I cant complain too much. Got a good 6 hours of play from it.

All in all, I'm really impressed with this DLC. Please release a full expansion that rocks as much as this DLC does. :)))

I just finished the Legacy DLC with a new low level Hawke during ACT 1. My party consisted of Aveline, Varric and Bethany.I really enjoyed the DLC. I have one suggestion. The DLC entry statute should have been available after going to Low town where you are normally attacked by the Carta. It would then tie in better when Hawke talks about the Carta attacking or have the Carta attack Hawke at Gamlan's hovel or the mansion.

I like the fact we learn more about Hawke's family. The party banter is excellent. Some of the revelations about Malcom Hawke are interesting. The family musings at the end were very good. You get to see more of the Hawke family and a little of the glue that binds them.

I love the attacks of the Hurlock and Genlock Alphas. The final boss fight was priceless. A nice variation on the sloth demon powers from DOA and the changing landscape was surprising!. There were not that many re-cycled environments and those that were are cleverly disguised.

The loot was not bad for low level characters. I will have to try it with my higher level Hawke and a different party makeup to see what changes. Also I will then be able to open that one chest I could not open.

It was a nice touch to have a checkpoint to return to Kirkwall before getting too deep in the prison. It was odd, but welcome to see the storage chest and gather your party point. I did not change my party, but it was a nice touch.

If an expansion and DA3 are of this quality I am sure that Bioware will be able to redeemed itself in some gamers eyes. I am looking for more DLC of this quality and better. Well worth the 800 Bioware points!

One more thing - Thanks for allowing Hawke's siblings to take part in this adventure. Bethany is one of my favorite characters. Her force mage powers as a grey warden are very very useful in the battles of this DLC.

I liked  how your party NPCs were written but that's about it. The main story was complete ****: Oh look big bad evil, SLASH, MAIM, MURDER!

Um... that's how these games work.  There's always a big bad evil, and you always have to kill it.  Complaining about it is kind of like complaining that there's always a shootout in the westerns.  Or that the girl and the guy always get together in the romcom.

Whatever.  Haters gonna hate.

Looks at Alpha Protocol and the Witcher 2.

SUUURE that's how it is. I would even add Jade Empire, since you are not forced to kill the big bad evil, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3. Do please tell where is the big bad evil in those last 2 games that I AM FORCED to kill without any character choice.

I really enjoyed Legacy. I'm having trouble being objective right now, so let me come up with the obvious ones.

Cons - Felt like it started really suddenly, with the party in the Vinmark Mountains. I was expecting Some build up to it. THen again, I started from post-campaign. It might change mid-game.

Waves are still very boring. There's less of them, but I'm still convinced there's a better way of implimenting them.

Pros - The puzzles were fun, and I actually took the time to do them. Which is saying a lot considering I was sleepy at the time.

The story. Sweet Maker, the story. The conversations, party banter, and quests. Easily one of the best in the entire game. I'm a sucker for family dynamics in DA2, so I was really happy to be so richely rewarded in bringing Carver along. It seems like Bioware took note on some of the disapointment about the lack of focus on the Hawkes in DA2.

So far, yeah. Pros far outweigh cons for me. The bosses were fun to work out. (Though the maze in the last was difficulty just because of the bad AI with pathfinding. I had the same problem with party members in the Last Straw.)

Feedback on DA2 Legacy DLC

Intro - I'm a fan of both DAO and DA2, I would say I like DA2 more because I enjoy the fast paced combat and the fact that nightmare is still, after several playthroughs, very difficult. I played with my lvl 26 2h Reaver/Templar Hawke, my party consisted of grey warden Bethany, anders and varric.

Things I like - improvements to combat, I never had a problem with the waves. I actually found them rather well placed. Was it fair that DAO trained me to keep my mages in the back, safely protected from attacks while my tank drew the hate? No, so why should I be surprised when the enemies realize the choke points and decide to join the fray at crucial positions in order to improve the odds of catching stray squishies? Legacy handles this issue between fans like me who found this to be a welcome change of pace (DAO combat was far too easy) and fans who felt cheated by the 'cheap' and 'nonsensical' wave spawning. It put the enemies in tactical locations that forced you to walk into dangerous areas, risking damage from traps (that enemy ai seemed more than willing to use). It placed archers on high ground with obscure ramps so they could plonk arrows into your team while the melee mates slowly wound around to face them. This is a good move. It captures, what in my opinion was your original concept of a more tactical AI without breaking the holy grail of 'immersion'. Reaver Hawke died once against the carta archers, this to me is very impressive as little could stand up to his scythe.

Traps made a return as both friend and foe. A welcome additional choice for those who craft devious ways of harming those carta thugs. I can't wait to send in my rogue hawke to sneak up and find out if he can't get the drop on them and fire off the trap before breaking stealth!

Puzzles! Man I love a good puzzle, ok so we got a lite the torches in the right order puzzle but to be fair there's only so much you can do...still it was nice to see some brain teasing quests making the rewards all the sweeter. My favorite was the colored columns puzzle. I almost missed it completely if it weren't for catching a glimpse of it at the corner of my screen as I headed for the exit. I knew I was missing the a piece of the armor as all the lore was pointing to it. I'm glad I didn't miss out!

Items in this dlc were very interesting, while I know several pieces of equipment are staples of the class and may not be so easily replaced (expensive rings etc.) it was cool seeing some new effects on items. +20% crit damage...I can see a use for that. My warrior ended up snagging a new amulet with some crit chance bonus to make up for the hurtin put on from the sunder bug.

My only complaint about the items would be the key itself. Why no rune slot? I would have totally made it my new permanent weapon but without being able to slap in the extra speed boost I can't justify trading it over my empress point. Also, the boosts could stand to be a bit beefier, +5 elemental damage, +5 attack speed...I was hoping for a bit more umpf from that ancient magical seal that 'when one waxes the other wanes'. This magic is supposed to hold a supreme ancient evil (who's fire happens to roast parties causing the most party wipes of any fight to date I'd wager).

Genlocks the regular ones were size appropriate and this was a huge deal to me. I was glad to see them return to a more dwarf-like size. They looked really good and the armored alphas were a welcome change. Now your enemies can blend in with the scenery, enjoy!

Hurlock alphas - oh man, I'm sorry if I'm spoiling this for anyone, the alphas made me shout for joy. I was so happy to see them again and they didn't disappoint. They look cool, they carry huge weapons and they have some neat abilities.

Deepstalkers - never much cared for them. Still don't.

Guardians were cool but suffered the legend of Zelda doppelgänger problem, the one that's the real one will always move first. Or will have a bigger hp bar.

Corypheus was amazing, I wish he weren't in some kind of amnesia coma the whole time as I would have loved for a bit of an architect conversation with him but ultimately he was incredible, the fight alone makes him memorable to me.

The story behind the DLC was very good, I was glad to see more of the wardens though I would have likes to have a bit more warden lore. We had a shrine to dumat I would have loved for more on the fight with the first blight. Anders had a wonderful moment that made me excited I brought him along and varric was another member I was glad to have with me.

I was very pleased with this DLC and I hope there's more in store for Hawke. Way to knock this one out of the ballpark guys.

I'll say it again, the last battle is tedious and boring. Running around in circles does not equal fun. Everything else was good, but the last battle wasn't.

Besides freezing on me 7x (which never happened in the vanilla game for me before), I find Legacy to be really worth the money; the content is almost like a whole act by itself. The battles (even the non bosses one on Hard) kept me on my toes, and it took several tries to figure out how to fight the last boss properly. It was frustrating at first but ended up loving it. Story and lore in the DLC are a really nice addition, although I had secretly expected more to be revealed about Malcolm :P (I want more Malcolm!)

For someone without the item packs, the loot for the companions are great (so far I have only completed the DLC with Bethany, Anders and Varric). Although I feel that the loot for Hawke to be slightly lackluster compared to theirs (Armor base stats are better but I prefer the Champion's armor properties and the lack of rune slot on the weapon makes me not use it in the end). The armor hunt is nice but I missed 2 on my first PT and realized that I can't get back to the Legacy area after the last boss and talking to "L"

Love Varric's additional background, party banters (oh gosh Izzy and Aveline) and the additional touch with the LI (mine is Anders and I'm guessing that he has more scenes than the other LIs but I maybe wrong and be entirely pleasantly surprised when I play other Hawkes that romanced other companions). I simply love both Beth and Carver and I'm glad to get more time with them + the scene at the Hawke Estate (done with a post-campaign save) makes me goes *sniff*

I'm hoping that this DLC will somehow affects future DLCs/expansions/heck even DA3 cos the ending is just... curious... :)

But overall really good job, kudos to the DA team!

This.

Also, Companion AI getting themselves stuck on rocks and killed was very annoying. Spent more time compensating for thier lack of path finding than i did fighting.

Loved absolutely everything else about the DLC though, step in the right direction! More please!

Legacy was really fun. Story based DLC is always welcome. Also, I like the changes made to the darkspawn (genlocks, hurlocks, hurlock emissaries, alphas), too bad they didn't look like that in DA:O.

Biggest problem I had was the pathing of the npc party members during the final fight. Not too big of an issue, just had to manage them more than usual or just not move around as fast.

Hope to see some dlc that is set after the events of DA2 or dlc like Leliana's Song, where a different character's story is played out.

I think the final battle was well done. It keep me on my toes. I did not have any trouble with my companions dying. I set up their tactics and made sure Bethany was set to heal companions when needed.
Cannot say more than that in a non spoiler thread.
