New Dragon Age II DLC - Legacy Feedback thread

The amount of follower dialogue was a nice surprise, even if most of it was banter that I had to stop walking to listen to. (I took Fenris, Sebastian, and Bethany but it was prior to the end of act 2 so I didn't get any romance dialogue.)
The combat was much much better in the DLC than it is in DA2. Enemies come from more realistic locations much more often than simply dropping from the sky, though I did catch one guy appearing from nowhere and dropping to ground. The final battle though was just ridiculous. I can understand wanting the boss to be harder than the normal mobs, but about halfway through the fight I dropped it to casual because of the tedium involved. The boss wasn't bad, but the never-ending health bar was a pain. It wouldn't have been so irritating if I could tell I was causing damage, but I wasn't. Half of Hawke's swings were followed by some variation of "Nothing's happening" even after switching weapons. Could have been due to my relatively low level when I started the DLC though I suppose...
The environments were so much better than DA2. I appreciate that Bioware took the time to create different areas for each section after all the feedback they got on the carbon copy areas in the base game.
The length was good. I didn't time my run, but it took me a few hours to get through it. I wish it had integrated better with the base game than giving me a pop-up asking if I wanted to start the DLC though. It was a mild annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.
Overall, I thought the DLC was pretty good. Not necessarily worthy of the $10 price tag, but still pretty good.

1. If there is going to be another new DLC, then will that DLC contain more quests, companions, more new items like weapons and armor, etc., new enemies, and more/new areas outside Kirkwall to explore, ( because it was a bit of a let down that the new area was only available through your house ), and not outside Kirkwall?
2. ........Which again leads me to the 2nd question, how many more DLC's will there be before the eventual release of Dragon Age 3, and will there be a Dragon Age - Awakening type of expansion for Dragon Age 2, ( and I am hoping that there will be one )?
3. If it is true that there will be a Dragon Age 3, then what will the graphics be like, what will character creation option be like, ( will there be more options to customize your character ), will it be like Dragon age 2, ( will the map type be like the one on DA:O, or will it be like it is on Dragon Age 2, with the repetitive areas, ( and that was one of the minuses about DA2 ), sorry if that sounded like bad critisism on my part, will there be random encounters with enemies, ( I don't remember if there was something like that on DA:O or DA:A), and finally, how will the gameplay be like, will you be able to transfer your save game over to Dragon Age 3, or will it be like DA:O, where you could import your character from DA:O, ( with any items, weapons and armors you chose to bring with you ), over to DA:A?
Ps! These questions are for the PS3 version, and not for the PC version, and if an answer to these questions can be given to me as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.
THANKS!

Background information: I really liked Origins. I have a lot of issues with DA2, but it's far from being the WORST GAEM EVAR and I had decent fun with it, monotonous as it was.
My Mage Hawke started the DLC in Act 3, directly before the endgame, with a party of Templar!Carver, Anders, and Isabela. I completed it in about three and a half hours; just for reference's sake, previous mini-campaigns (Golems, etc) took me about an hour less to finish, and my first playthrough of DA2 was about 40 hours overall.
I greatly enjoyed the changes made to combat and the environments were beautiful. The quest, overall, was a lot of fun; I particularly enjoyed the puzzles, especially the second torch puzzle. I didn't like that I wasn't free to wrap up the sidequests after beating the final boss, and I think the DLC could have used one more resume point. The final boss was an enormous pain; the pathfinding for the party members seemed a bit off, and they often ended up marching into walls and getting toasted by AOE attacks. I also encountered a bug where the final boss would not change forms; reloading a previous save fixed the issue.
The DLC's main plot was not terribly interesting at first, but picked up somewhat after meeting a few of the characters involved. I felt that the sides were somewhat unevenly presented and I would have to go against my better judgment to side with the Wardens. As I said before, I brought Carver, Anders, and Isabela along for the ride; I enjoyed the interaction with all of them. Carver's dialogue was good, but didn't make me like the character any more than I did going in. Anders' interaction was great; I liked that it tied the game in with Awakening a bit more, and it was refreshing to see him somewhat humbled by the lore reveal at the end of the DLC. Isabela didn't have a whole lot to do or say, but she's not terribly integral to the DLC's plot and I liked the few lines she did have, so I can't really complain.
On a final note, I'd like to see future DLC releases take place after DA2's ending rather than being side-stories. I didn't like having to reload a pre-ending save to use characters who died or left in the endgame, despite Legacy chronologically taking place before the end of the game.
I'd give the DLC a 7/10 overall. If this is the model for future DLC releases, I'll consider them, but a price tag of 560 points would be more reasonable for this amount of content, as well as a much easier impulse buy.
You liked it more than I did, but I must say this is one of the better reviews, that was well thought out. Cheers!

New banter, expanded lore to think about, and all sorts of goodies.
There's only one thing that's bugging me.
Why do the DLC weapons have to be so god-awful ugly?
In both the appearance DLC and Legacy the weapons are kind of clunky, chunky, and ugly. The armor is okay, for the most part, but the weapons look like they were cobbled together by a drunk apprentice.
I realize this is personal taste, but I wish I could have a bow that doesn't look like it's being held together by a bunch of nails.

Considering the not-so-stellar track record for Bioware's DLC (sorry Bioware, I'm still reeling in disappointment from Witch Hunt), Legacy was an exceptionally good DLC
I also really appreciated how Legacy addressed some deeper questions about DA lore, something that I felt was lacking in DA2. As great as this aspect is however, in the end I felt like it just left so much more questions unanswered. I suspect this is deliberate... but I would very much have liked a greater degree of closure to balance out the deepening mysteries.
I hope to see many more like Legacy in the future; Great job Bioware!

I loved the banter in Legacy. I always love Bioware Banter, but Legacy's gems were particularly delightful. Anders was still mostly angsty and mopey (always hated that part and always will), but I liked how the communication dynamic changed between some characters... like how Fenris and Merrill managed to bicker about abominations in a much lighter tone, and even joke about their antagonism; as opposed to the constant bullying in DA2.
I actually ran up and down the corridors just to hear everything I could. I'M SURE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE.
Also, it would have been nice if each level of the prison had a different theme or challenge; after a while it did get somewhat repetitive. If it could be like Bruce Lee's Game of Death, where each floor held a distinct foe with a distinct style, it would have been awesome!
I appreciated Legacy addressing deeper questions about Thedas lore... but I would have loved to see more immediate questions answered as well, especially answers specifically responding to DA2 questions... getting to know about Malcolm Hawke is one example, but since his mysteries were not specifically stoked in the original game, I wasn't really wondering about him in the first place. Not that I don't appreciate the information tho.

Good DLC and even more so when I realized you could take cover from the end boss flame attack. Too often my swings are met with a shield looking icon above the enemy in question telling me he's resisting my attacks which was somewhat irritating given my Hawke is lvl 25 with a exceptionally powerful weapon but I got it done. I'm still torn between the Champion armor and the new set armor you can gain in this DLC. one has better armor and one has somewhat better stats to my style of game play. Decisions, decisions. LOL!
Minor correction: For some reason my warriors' attacks were often met with a shield icon indicating a resistance to her attacks despite having a great weapon (even before teh Key) and having lvl 25-26 stats. However my mage attacks almost always connected just fine and my rogue, dear God, it wasn't even fair... for the enemy. She cut through them like butter. It was almost as if I had a "easy" or "win" button.
As for the banter, awesome. Iespecially liked Varrics initial responses to encounters, like after your first encounterwith the darkspwn with the big *** shield. LOL!!!!

F**kin' Brontos, this is the first time - in any Dragon Age media that I've seen Brontos as a legitimate threat. Seriously, kudos on that. The first Bronto attack was rough just 'cause I found it absurd at just the concept of an angry dwarven pack animal being trained to attack me and my pack of magic users and killers, but then it was actually rough going taking it down. Then when I had two rush out at me and my party, I was freaking out something fierce. Just... damn. It really varied up the fights to get jumped by ornery pack animals.
Next, Corphyeus battle. Holy. Crap. Gotta admit it humbled me. After facing down those tough ass Brontos, I shoulda seen it comin' that the actual boss fight would be rough going. Actually, after thinking about Brontos being in Golems of Amgarrak, I think Brontos will now be the official mascot of tough DLC bosses. My Mage Hawke, he barely survived. He watched his dalish girlfriend, grey warden sister, and Aveline all get their butts kicked. That'll teach me to go into a DLC without any Mythal's Favor grenades from now on. As soon as I got back to Casa del Hawke, I bought 10 of those grenades. NEVER AGAIN!
Thirdly, loved all the lore and backstory nuggets that were sprinkled all over the varied maps (BTW, awesome work on the new locations, soooooooooo good to get outta Kirkwall). Malcom Hawke is the sh*t and I mean that in a good way.
Fourthly, the DLC story itself had such an "Origins" flavour to it but with DA2's combat, that made it all kinds of sexy. I am fully aware of the Origins writers wrote DA2 and the DLC but, I enjoyed all the connections that pointed back to the lore learned in DAO and from the DA Novels.
So overall, I had no problems with Legacy. I didn't really get lost nor did I feel like I was herded from cutscene to cutscene. Some of the fights bordered on punishing until I adjusted my tactics and made use of potions and grenades I rarely used in the main portions of DA2. Even on a casual playthrough I felt sufficiently challenged. I hope future DA2 DLC-expansion stuff maintains or exceeds the quality (on all fronts) as seen here.

One thing though is that the weapon looks cool but stats arent that good. And the armor set looks cool as well but really sucks in stats. Especially for a 2h warrior because the stats are more so for a tank and not for DPS. Also since post game and with this being at lvl 27 or 28 our armor percentage goes down for hawke. Everyone else is always the same cause of their lvl up armor. But not for Hawke. So for instance i was with over 40%, but now after im at like 22% or so with only 3% against a boss. So keep that in mind for giving us more armor.
Still though, the best DLC from the drgaon age series, and i have played them all.

The companion banter was excellent even although my LI (Fenris) banter is supposedly bugged, hopefully that will get remedied.
The additional lore and snippets were great, leaving loads of unanswered questions and giving quite a few "wtf?" moments but in a very good way, I can't wait for more!
I missed a load of stuff on my first pt even although I believed I'd completed it, 2nd pt caught more content and I'm sure I'm still missing bits and bobs.
The battles were fun and challenging even on casual.
I play DA for the story/lore and the banter, so Legacy is right up my street.
I also believe that this Legacy has quite some mileage regarding replayability, the in depth and numerous companion banters make replays desired, even if only to catch the various conversations.
I've bought a few DLC's for the DA series, this one is imo by far the best both for content and action, it only cost me £6.50, so all in all I'm delighted and feel that it was money definately well spent. For future DLC's of this quality I'd happily pay the same again (although cheaper is always good
You guys at Bioware have raised the stakes now, considering the amount of negative feedback DA2 main received and now the amount of positive feedback that this DLC has received, you now know beyond a doubt the direction your DA games have to go in to satisfy the majority! Good Luck and I'll be with you every step of the way if this DLC is anything to go by, Good Job folks!

Just to re-iterate, once again, the boss fight is crap. Your team mates arre ****ing clueless, because the AI isn't complex enough to navigate a maze. Very unenjoyable fight. Don;t do that one again.
I forgot about that. The pathfinding definitely could use some work in the next Dragon Age. Although I still liked the fight with Corypheus.

I enjoyed the hell out of it. The final boss was really tough and you actually needed strategy. In fact, the whole game felt like more of a challenge. I'm not big on making things extremely hard, but there was a good balance.
The story was solid. And I LOVE and APPLAUD you for making the companions relevant. Anders, Varic, and Mage Tower Bethany were my followers and all had great moments. I loved the personal touch of Hawke's Dad's involvement in the overall story. It wasn't what I was expecting and that was nice. (And was that a mention of Uldred hidden in there? = ) ) It's also nice for those of us who have read the books to see Gaider's stuff now in the game. To meet someone who has had their "Calling" was nice to see and The Conductor poses big questions for the future. And the little cutscene at the end (which I'm guessing you only get depending on where you're at in DA2 when you play it...I played post campaign) was classic Bioware character development. Just really nice moment with the Hawke family.
To put it simply, it felt like Dragon Age. It was a nice mix of Origins and DA2. I think you found the right balance. I honestly don't know how anyone claiming to be a fan of Dragon Age could say they didn't enjoy it or get that "classic" Dragon Age feel walking around in thaigs and fighting deep stalkers. For a ten dollar DLC, this was excellent.
When you're left wanting more immediately, you know you did your job right.
I don't have any immediate complaints or thoughts on what could be better. (A mention of the Warden would have been nice...or a run-in from someone from the first game...what can I say: the Origins characters are classic now...want to know where they're at.) That's all I got for now. Good job!

That's the question with the new armor and weapon. Do you prefer straight up bettr armor and damage rating or like me, do you prefer somewhat lesser armor and damage rating but superior stats and perks to the weapons and armor. The new weapon (Key) has some decent stats when you do all three upgrades to it but it seems my previous weapon with all 3 of my Hawke's (one for each class) had somewhat better stats. Still all my Hawke's have the Key as their primary weapon and all but one are still equiped in Champion Armor. Just my preference is all.

I have to say, I was very impressed with how well Bioware scaled the difficulty and loot depending on where you are in the game when starting Legacy. Both playthroughs felt very similar in overall difficulty. The 'alpha' darkspawn were challenging but not overly so, the mob battles were just dangerous enough to get companions killed if you got sloppy, and the boss battles required strategy to get past.
On the equipment scaling - I played both times as my archer/rogue Hawke because I wanted to compare the experiences being at different points in the story with the same character. In my Act III run I was in the 'Absolution' longbow, arguably the best in the game (some people favor 'Jackal's Longbow' which has a bit higher attack but not a rune slot like 'Absolution'). Picking up the 'Hawke Key', it got an attack of 156 in comparison to Absolution's 134. But then in the Act I run I was using 'Swarm' (attack 70) and 'Hawke Key' got an attack of 86. In both cases clearly better than what I had, but not game breaking overpowered. Other equipment drops were similarly scaled between the two runs, making the armor, weapons, and accessories you find in Legacy actually useful regardless of where you are in the game. Very nice!
On the Corypheus battle - I got a couple of game overs before figuring it out. There are two tricks to it. First is the flames rotate in one direction and you need to run *with* the stream instead of *against* it. My first time I ran back through the flames multiple times and died. Second, do not stop to fight the pillar guardians at each pillar. Touch the pillar to shut off Corypheus' power source, then immediately start running to the next pillar. You can stay ahead of the flames and after you've touched the last pillar you have a pretty simple mob battle with 8 shades (two from the last pillar plus the six that have trailed you from the other three). Take them down, wait for Corypheus to come back out of the center (where he's immune to damage), knock his health down another 25% to make him trigger another elemental power, rinse and repeat.

Battle - I like the battle improvements. I actually yelled "Holy $h!t" when the big shield darkspawn steamrolled my way. I definitely liked the final battle and the mini-boss before going up to the final seal. I really like that they would ambush you after you explored an area too, gave a nice feel to it all - as if to say be on guard all the time.
Items - I like that everything was pretty plentiful (health pots, money, etc.) BUT my issue was the huge disappointment on the "Key" and the Silent Armor set. I played legacy on a mage (ACT3 & did every quest)and I found the weapon upgrade choices terrible... I felt like I had to pick the lesser of 4 evils (on top of that staff being so hideous that I'd probably wouldn't use it even if it was godly) Even so this was my only disappointment in the DLC.
Edit: I firmly believe all special DLC items should have Improves with Level up on it.
Story - There is nothing bad I could possibly say about it. It felt real, personal, gave alot to the over-arching story of the DA universe and Hawke's story. My party was Carver, Anders, and Sebastien - and I have to that I wasn't expecting any meaningful Sebastian integration but I was pleasantly surprised. It has my curious to see what the other companions have to say.
Edit: I just found out about the secret boss... I'm annoyed I can't go back and fight him... and that on my next play thought I have to remeber to do alot of backtracking.... I really don't like this. Maybe its my fault for not actually reading the codexs but I don't imagine many players do... I much rather play than read.
