Loved all the lore. As in, before I was kind of waiting around for more tid bits and after Legacy I really am having fun speculating on what is going on with the Magisters. Very cool.
Loved having the family conversations during and after the main quest. Also learning more about Hawke was a great way to be more involved with his personal story. I had a lot of fun playing sarcastic Hawke but the more I learn about the character the more I'm into continuing playing him for future DLC.
New areas! Varied areas! And they were all really great looking.
There seemed to be a lot of new types of camera movement during scenes that I thought was really interesting. I remember one where Hawke looks over his shoulder to someone speaking and the camera zooms by his face and to the other character who he was speaking to.
I mentioned this elsewhere but I'll leave it here too. My sword and
shield Hawke was missing his shield in the scene at the end when Hawke
uses the key to free Cory. This is super nit picky I know, but with all the attention to detail for this DLC, I think that little stuff like that is as important.
All in all I have to say that the new more dynamic camera stuff (vistas, convo camera work etc.) really felt right. Couple that with unique and interesting battles I would put Legacy down as the best DA DLC yet. I was a fan of WH and DAA, but this felt the tightest yet. I really can't say if LoTSB or Legacy is my favorite from you folks!

The character interactions and expansion of story were the two things that did it for me. Character interactions especially were a step up from the main game (with your sibling, anders, and varic at least). I'm definitely interested in seeing if the ending of Legacy will fit in to DA3 somehow or be left to some different game or medium.
One thing I didn't care for was the endgame boss fight. It got a little tedious. Also the key design was a little visually busy and... clunky.
Also I can always **** about the length of the DLC because when I get done with it I want MORE! I would not give a second thought about paying for something comparable to Awakening in quality and length.

I also think it helped characterize the siblings a lot more and also show the darker side of the Wardens. In DAO the Wardens are more or less the heroes. Sure, there's stuff in Warden's Keep and so forth where some more sinister chapters were brought up, but this DLC really fleshed out the macabre aspects of the Calling and put a grimmer spin on the Wardens' overall image.
Again, my only criticism is the same that can be said of much of DA2. Regardless of your choices, kind of the same thing happens at the end. I am doing my best to remain spoiler-free, but that was a bit of a letdown. Too often in DA2 it feels like determinism. You may change how the events play out slightly, but the end results are almost always the same.

however, one thing that needs to be addressed for future DLC is that another healer character should definitely be introduced.if the difficulty is ratcheted up any further in future installments(which only seems logical) you may have a hard time defeating bosses if Hawke is a warrior or rougue in "post campaign" mode. giving a full explanation as to why might get my post deleted, so ill just leave it at that.

no it does not change the way DA2 works but the choice matters and the the waves were less frequents and were not composed of pirate-partrooper-nija.
the story held together better than in DA2

Thought it really bought back the atmosphere of 'epicness' that was lost a bit in Dragon Age 2. The fact of the matter is though, it wasn't the story that was more epic, it was just the way it was told. The cutscenes were amazing, especially the little vista interactions you got on each level. Booming voices of Malcolm Hawke, the demonic altar of Dumat. Codex entries that provided just enough suspense and intrigue. Much better than the drabness and emptiness in DA2.
Dark and creepy atmosphere was also brought about well, the combat wasn't overdone and was nice and challenging, not to mention surprising at times. For example I knew to expect a genlock alpha to pop up from one of those shields that were dotted round the place, but was still genuinely shocked when one of them did and steamroller'd me to the ground.
One minor thing though, I still can't stand that zoom you do if you're a rogue or a warrior to get to the next enemy if he's far away. Looks so ridiculous.

The gameplay itself felt like a grind through dungeons to get to meaningful content only to find out there were none, and the final battle, for me as well as others, devolved into my character single-handedly taking down the boss because my companions did not understand that fire is harmful. I even went as far as to pause the gameplay, guide my companions to safer places, then switch back to my character only to find that they would soon return to running around in the fires.
I am a big fan of both the Dragon Age series and Mass Effect, and I'm not trying to just bash your work here, but actually provide my take on the content in hopes that it might help you improve further releases.

While I think that Legacy was still a bit raw on some edges, it was well worth the time. Some things were a bit clunky, but it was overlookable and acceptable.
Also, the final boss fight was a bloody good fight.
I must admit that I was rather skeptic about the Genlock design. But after having played Legacy, they ain't so bad as I thought.
The story was great and it is a step in the right direction.
However, the areas need more props. More props = more drool!
Also, the mini-boss fights were far from challenging. They felt more like a hold-up instead of what they were supposed to feel like: challenging.

Actually, she made a pretty good point. If you hate a game, your best tool to "voice" that concern is not buy the money making DLC. That tells the developer that I didn't like your game enough to pay you for more content. Kind of like if you go to a store and get bad service, just don't go there again.
Well, I won't be getting it again, if that makes you happy, and I certainly won't be recommending it to my friends.
I have already given a perfectly logical reason as to why I purchase any and all available DLC for games that I have already bought. Believe me, if I had known how atrocious DA2 was going to be, then I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. But it wouldn't be fair for me to criticize this DLC if I hadnt actually played it, so of course I went ahead and checked it out. It was supposed to be good, after all, so I don't see how in the world my purchasing it to test it out could possibly be a surprise.
This faux outrage by my detractors is so ridiciulous that it is actually funny. "Oh no, Darth Obvious is pointing out the salient flaws in this DLC! We should criticize him for purchasing it, instead of addressing the real concerns and conceding that he has made some really good points!"
Unbelievable.

If you didn't like the main game and you also didn't like Legacy (which by the way is probably the best Dragon Age DLC to date) then maybe it's time to consider that Dragon Age really isn't for you.
It would seem foolish to keep buyng DLC if you didn't like the preceding content.

Seconded. I mean, are you fricking serious, it was just the same pride demon 3x in a row?? It was as if you guys just really wanted to repeat something: "Okay well we can't give them the same areas over and over again, but please please let us copy paste something.. YES!!! we'll throw the same boss at them three times, maybe they won't notice it! Hurrah!"

What I found to be irritating was that I had no clue what was going on until I played through it again and stopped to read and do EVERYTHING. I hate when games do that but I can understand why.
All in all, sorry but Fallout New Vegas OWB was a much better buy.

I am playing Legacy post-campaign and when I am choosing who to team up with, I am only allowed to choose people who sided with me. Since this DLC is supposed to take place prior to the Endgame, this makes NO sense to me.
I've read thru 16 pages of this thread and the closest I've come to seeing this addressed is on page 12, by Cutlass Jack:

I only just

dunno what it is. Playing Legacy post campaign. Sided with the mages and

permission did you need at this point anyway?
No
Bug. The story is assumed to take place prior to the Endgame. If Bethany
is still alive at the end of Act 1, she's either a mage of the Circle,
or a Warden. Her dialogue explains how she temporarilly got away from
either group to join you during Legacy.
And again, all that does is confirm for me that this DLC is supposed to take place prior to Endgame. If this is addressed somewhere else in the other 9 pages of this thread, I apologize but my eyes are crossing at this point and I just want an answer.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a sign of a corrupted save file on my end? And if it was designed to be this way, has Bioware posted an explanation as to WHY?
Thank you ahead of time to anyone who tries to help me out here.

Post-campaign save takes place just prior to the events of the last mission (The Last Straw). And so does Legacy, if you play it post-campaign. I agree, it doesn't make sense that you don't have access to the characters that either left or got killed during the last mission. I don't think it's a bug, but simply an oversight from the developers. One of many oversights in DA2, I might add.

- I found the story to be very interesting.
- Corypheus is imo the best and toughest battle in DA so far.
- I haven't noticed any copy/paste locations during the playghthrough.
- No more "parachuting" enemies, it's good to see that BioWare addressed the most common criticisms.
- I really appreciate all the things like traps activated during combat and the riddles, it helps to add more variance to the game.
- I was (pleasantly) surprised to see (or actually hear...) that even the party members were voiced, unlike in ME DLCs. It's obvious that BioWare must have put a lots of effort into Legacy.
- During the final battle, it was for the first time in both DAO and DA2 when I missed isometric view (because of the maze). And being able to navigate party members to the destination through more hand-selected poinhts would be handy, too, because the AI isn't perfect and the characters often ended stuck (and consequently dead because of the rotating flames) - it was frustrating sometimes.

- Nice variation of enemies
- Epic and important plot, makes you feel that something dark and horrible is being uncovered.
- nice unique scenario.
I also finnished the Game itself today, and what can i say. I preffer to remember Legacy as the ending of Dragon Age 2, that tells everything i guess.

I agree on your intent to still buy the DLC despite your feelings about DA2, I would've done the same to see the improvements/lack of improvements made. But don't assume your points are unanimously good. That's just arrogant. They're your opinions, not facts.

One other gripe is that "hold position" still doesn't do what it says, I suppose it was optimistic to expect that to be changed in a DLC, but it did diminish the more tactical emphasis that pervades the game.
Overall very well done.

It allows the gamers to expand on Hawke's family history without being intrusive into that family history, if that makes sense. Legacy concerns the Hawke family, but a decision on our Hawke's background isn't set in stone, if that makes sense.
The DA lore was expanded; this was great! Now I want to know more, the Tevinter Imperium especially.
Unfortunately, it is a bit buggy.
Also, while I love the little conversation quips here and there, after playing it a second time, I realize most are pre-planned; random banter, which was one of my favourite things about DA2, is very rare; there's only 1 that I recall, and that's near the start of the DLC. I would like more in the next one.

Having a new environment? I'd think that should be the least we expect - it's sad that DA2 set the bar so low that having a new environment is seen as a distinct pro. Hawke chiming in on various pieces of ambient dialogue rather constantly was also very irritating, since it only reinforced the strong lack of agency I feel playing the game. The annoyingly helpless ending where Hawke was unable to really do anything about anything... Disappointing storywise, and again weakening agency. Lorewise the retcon of the look/behaviour of genlocks was a very steep one, I had a hard time even recognizing the things.
All in all, I see it as an average, a tad overpriced DLC that did some things well, other things badly. 2/5 stars.
