A 4 hour DLC is quick?

Not only is a 4 hour DLC meaty in and of itself, the attention to detail they placed in this particular one was pretty much unprecedented for a Bioware DLC (returning voice talent for base-game follower characters, completely new enemy models, numerous new tile sets, a hidden boss, etc.)
A problem though with any DLC no matter how well made is when taken as a completely stand alone product it will always tend to feel "short." I'm not pretending to be a human behaviorist but I think this is mostly due to us naturally using the base game as a point of comparison which is probably not the most objective way of going about doing things (DLC and core content are developed, marketed and targeted quite differently after all).
One thing I do personally notice is when I play through DLC as an organic part of the game (like I did recently with ME2 doing a complete playthrough including all the DLC) the "feel" is very different and the products come accross as far more satisfying. Eh look at me rambling, maybe I'm just a bit too hyped up for MoA because of how good I found Legacy.

But I take your point Gilebrush. It may have been just a perceptual thing.

With DLC in particular, like I said I think it's mostly due to the fact that: it's still a relatively new business model, that maybe we have yet to completely wrap our heads around the idea and implications of this new reality and thus we tend to compare it to something that's quite a different beast in nature (full release titles). And maybe inadvertedly (or intentionally) give DLC an unfair shake or at the very least approach it with a negative disposition. All I know for sure and, I'm positive that many will agree with me on this point; is DLC has come a long way from charging people to armor up their horses! Legacy in particular was a stellar effort from the DA2 team to deliver entertaining and value content given the delivery model (at least I personally think so) whether they succeeded or not though is ultimately up to you to decide for yourself based on criteria you deem relative.
We're all entitled to our own opinions, I'm just suggesting to people who feel that they weren't delivered enough content is to take a step back and give it another go as part of the overall game rather than as a complete standalone product. I originally felt the exact same way you did about Legacy with ME2's Arrival. But, upon further review and playing it as part of the base game, boy did my perceptions change. I gained further and a much deeper appreciation for the product. That's just me though, YMMV!

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed it, and I recognise Bioware put a lot into it. I just thought for $10 there should have been some more. If you equate the cost with game time, I paid about $90 for the whole game and I got about 80 hours from it. So $10 should have come out at about 8-9 hours (I hope that's right, my maths is shocking).
But I take your point Gilebrush. It may have been just a perceptual thing.
There is no way it could have taken you 80 hours to complete DA2, unless you leave it running during meals and naps...
I've done a number of very thorough playthroughs in which I skip no cutscenes or dialogue and walk mostly instead or run, and it adds up to about 55 hours. Really don't know where you get another 25 hours worth of gameplay from.

With that sticking point aside I really enjoyed the experience. The music and ambience was unique in comparison to the core game and really fit the environment. Particular kudos for that.

It's amazing, fun, thrilling, right level of difficulty, only gripe I had was that it felt too short.
But the reason I get that feeling is probably due to how fun it was!

The bad
- the bug where so much of Fenris and Hawke's romantic dialogue doesn't trigger irritates me to no end
. I don't understand how that got past testing, nobody noticed this? And it still isn't fixed. Come on, to waste Gideon Emery's voice like that is a crime, I tell you! Fix it.
- wish there would have been a bit more content outside of the prison base in the beginning, like a start in a new area of Kirkwall (would have liked to see Hawke beat up the carta during those attemps on his life).
- Corypheus himself was such a fascinating villain, I would have liked to hear more dialogue from him, or a sinister twist to the fight, like that deal the Warden could make with the Architect.
- why isn't the ulitmate big bad female for once? Or the twisted tour guide? Larius is male, Corypheus is male *sigh* Janeka is a villain yes, but she's nowhere near their league. Women kick ass. Says so on a T-shirt!
- not just new environments, but the fact that they provide such a sharp contrast with Kirkwall, that makes them so much more appealing, I found going through all the prison levels exciting, but then I'm addicted to mystery.
- great party banter: it was nice to talk about family with Carver, lol'd so much with the others too.
- I can't speak for the sword yet as I've not seen it, but the staff is great. I was a bit put out that the dagger doesn't have a match though. It makes sense that there would only be one as the key, but finding one with a similar skin somewhere in the prison would have been nice.
- Corypheus: awesome villain, the fight (more on that later), his voice and his design were great.
- The puzzles: refreshing to have to put your brain cells at work rather than just kill kill kill 24/7.
- The new darkspawn were a nice surprise, the genlock, genlock alpha and hurlock alpha. I already liked the redesigned darkspawn from DA2, but these guys are awesome! They kick ass like darkspawn should. I like gritty fights that don't go easy, so this was a treat. And I want that big shield.
- The warden armor: one of the most appealing armor sets in DA2 so far, for a mage at least, haven't seen the other versions yet
- the fight with Corypheus: great! I didn't mind the fact that you had to manually control your entire party, that made it all the more challenging. This is the first fight in a game where I went like, omfg, run, kill, kill, resurrect, watch out for the fire/ice/lightning, run run, kill kill, resurrect...I had a ball
The icing on the cake was Varric's "If he pulls a dragon out of his ass, I'm leaving!"

Of all the boss fights in the entire Dragon Age, I sincerely feel Malvernis is the most difficult fight of all.

I should preface this by saying I was one of those people who were deeply disappointed in DA:2 but thought it was an OK game.
There are a lot of things done right with this DLC:
- The dungeon actually felt like a dungeon (i.e. thought put behind level design)
- Most of the combats felt purposeful and had enemies using tactics (as opposed to just throwing in bad guys anywhere with paratroop reinforcements).
- New enemies that are actually dangerous which aren't assassin types.
- Impressive companion interaction; their personalities shown through
- I'm still not a fan of the bright/glossy/whatever aesthetic, but it there did seem to be more attention to detail.
- I did not feel cheated by the length of the DLC
- Story had an intriguing premise
Of course, I question why so much more thought was placed in a DLC than the actual game, but then I suppose it is a good sign the quality is increasing rather than decreasing.
There are some things I think could have been done better:
- Showing us the Carta dwarves attacking us in Kirwkall would have made for a more logical reason to do this DLC in the middle of nowhere
- There should have been more interaction with Corypheus. If the dude has been sleeping for thousands of years, wouldn't he be just a bit curious about what's going on? It may be cliched for the BBEG to give a big speech about how he is going to do X or what had happened to him, but there is value to these cliches in fleshing out interesting antagonists and adding to lore.
- The final fight was doable with the current healing/potion mechanic only because there is a lot of time where PCs are moving from point A to point B. I appreciate fights which force us to move at points, but this felt like a NASCAR race with all those left turns and pit stops.
Overall, I'd rate this DLC as pretty solid; I felt the core game had a C quality and Legacy is at least a B. I think, however, it demonstrates the weaknesses of some of DA2's mechanics that should be changed.
- I like the Bronto charge/alphas genlock shield smash. I don't like how they're the only real threat and will one shot your PCs. It was a mistake to have PCs stay at 150 HPs or so the whole game.
- I found a lot of neat loot. Too bad it's cash in disguise bc/ our credit card gives us the best stuff, our companions can't use it, it's indistinguishable from the last demonic pendant I found etc.
- I had to think tactically. Would have been nice to have that overhead camera, no?
People who did not like DA2 for the fundamental changes made from DA:O will still have the same issues with Legacy. Those who felt the changes were inconvenient and felt the game was marred by cosmetic factors (i.e. paratroop waves), will find Legacy an improvement.
