If you're having any issues with Legacy, please let me know in this thread and I'll investigate further.

(note: if you downloaded it using the 'hack' link you have a very small chance that your download will be corrupt as it wasn't fully finished uploading yet - so if you get filecheck errors and you got it through this method, please redownload)

IF YOU'RE CRASHING IN DX11 WITH NVIDIA CARDS:

Please be advised that we're aware of the crash issues in DX11 with Nvidia drivers 275.33. You will need to use earlier drivers or wait until the new 280.xx comes out some time in the near future. I'll update this accordingly when those drivers are available.  Thanks.

Make sure you're logged in to the same account that you purchased the DLC under when you're in game.

I'm having trouble starting the DLC. Right after Cassandra says: "I'll take my chances." the game crashes to desktop 100% of the time using the DirectX 11 render. I tried setting it to DirectX 9 (with HQ textures enabled) and it worked. So from the look of it there is a bug in either the Direct X 11 render or one of the advanced effects which is causing this crash.

For anyone else that is having this issue, can you let me know if it works in DX9 and also what drivers you're currently using as well as the video card.

In my post-campaign save, I click on the Legacy idol in my manor and the game crashes 1 second after selecting my party. Has happened twice now.

Edit:I have the steam version.

Is this in both dx9 and dx11?

Works in DX9 (after intro i set DX 11 back), drivers NVidia 8.17.12.7533

Sorry, should have also added that I need the video card as well - we're going to try reproduce it in the studio and then work on fixing it once we can isolate the issue.

We're investigating this crash at the 'ill take my chances' line - in the mean time, start the DLC in DX9 and you'll be able to switch back right after this conversation. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Same crash may have repeated with DX11 active when encountering Gerav - crashed after asking Varric to introduce him.

Can anyone having the initial crash confirm that?

I meant someone other than yourself :) I typically like to have two sources to verify an issue - I added it to the existing issue anyways but I would think that all those users who had this issue would have it again as you did.

Though I should mention that this encounter is different if you don't have varric so only reply if you have done this with Varric and had the Cassandra crash already

Someone else mentioned this with Bethany - i'm guessing you have a corrupt art asset somehow. This has happened to users with GUI elements in the past.

OS Win XP SP 2 , so DX 9.0c one of the last runtimes if not last.
Vcard - Radeon HD 4870
Catalyst 11.6
Game version 1.03
Initial launch - crash at the Seeker. Got some random crashes during gameplay but no crash at Gerav.
One after teleport statue usage - ported back to my estate, went to Black Emporium for sellingmanaging jewelry - crashed during transition to Emporium.
2 crashes during a fight with 1st Malcolms daemon - 1st when it didn't die after its HPs were gone - 2secs after I got a crash. 2nd one also there, jusst during a fight with shades, daemon was alive at that time.
Add to the list about 2 crashes at random points, can't remember exact places but I remember reloading %)
Also I have yet to see final movie after last boss kill - even made a quick save but when I'm seeing Seeker (heh) - immediate crash. 3 times in a row now.
No hacks used, bought it with BW points, used provided download link.

do you have the latest version of the game (1.03)? If so have you played it at all with 1.03 before getting Legacy to know if it's 1.03 causing you issues or the Legacy DLC

You definitely need to connect at least once to authorize your DLC so you'll need to separately troubleshoot that issue if that is the case - it is independent of Legacy.

Cough. I wrote in my original post that my game version is 1.03 ...
I made Patch 1.03 installation about 2 or 3 days since it was out. Haven't played after install but about a week ago or so (could be more , quite busy at work atm, can't remember) I realised that I have no saved games for announced Legacy DLC %) So I did a full playthrough with melee rogue. Can't remember any noticeable issues with that.
Started Legacy with quicksave after ending autosave - I went to Emporium, sold trash & unneeded loot, came back to estate & quicksaved with about 9 items in bags.

Fair enough, I'll add it to the report but so far you're the only one who has crashes outside of the DLC since installing it.

This goes based on your registry so if you've moved the game or copied it from another source (or something else that would cause the registry to be non-existant or point to the wrong place) that would be the cause of that.

I know it says you have Legacy but does it have an asterisk beside it (indicating it being unauthorized)? You need to be connected to the right account for it to authorize properly. If you're sure they line up trying logging out and back in.

Well my DA2 game is installed on my D: drive...I installed it there from the disc, is there a way to "edit" the regestry entry so as to not have to try re-instaling all over?

I'm having the same issue of it not 'seeing" my DA2 install.

Patched to 1.3 and able to run & login to the servers just fine btw

Thx for any suggestion/s

Yes, there is a way to manually edit it but if you don't know how regedit works I'd like to caution you not to touch anything but the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\

in that directory there is a key called 'Path', if you right click and modify that you can edit it.

and again, don't touch anything in regedit unless you know what you're doing. It has very angryface consequences to your PC.

Edit: thats the path if you have a 64bit OS, it'll be the exact same minus the \\Wow6432Node\\ folder I believe if you're 32bit

I can confirm that this appears to be an issue with the drivers - currently the best drivers are the 270.61 as far as I've gathered. If you are the type of user who hates rolling drivers all over the place for different games then I suggest tinkering with the settings to find some that work properly for now and just wait a new set of drivers.

I started the DLC with a post-campaign save, where both Bethany and Anders were dead. However, the game still acts like Bethany is alive, in the Circle. She even appeared in the opening cinematic where you first arrive at Vimmark, though this took me a while to realize as she was invisible - voice was there, but just empty space where she should be. She doesn't show up in party window, though.

Also experiencing some crashing while changing areas, but not much. Radeon 4870, WinXP so DX9.

Appears to be an issue if Bethany died during the Gallows segment at the end of the game.

Luke, could I pester you to make a note of this on the OP if you can still edit it, I don't like repeating myself for people who aren't reading the whole thread.

People having DX11 issues, changing to DX9 sorts the problem out.

final time I'm gonna say it, don't like spamming :-P

Done. And yes, it isn't fun is it? I need some sort of super-forum abilities to just make giant pop-ups appear for everyone who logs in to the forums with a list of answers to their questions :)

I'd probably immediately abuse it and spam pictures of Dolph Lundgren as He-Man.... I HAVE THE POWER!

Seriously though, I do have some suggestions in to get a better devTracker type tool for users to easily stalk me. Maybe I'll just GPS tag my ankle and make it even easier. :o

Dx9 no issues.

There were 11.7 drivers released recently. Try using those and see if it improves.

Okay... encountered some weirdness with the DLC.

3. But I noticed when I loaded my Post-Campaign Save I had an unusual discussion with my mansion door. Strangely the discussion with my door was exactly the same one you have with Merideth when you go out into the courtyard for the final battle. Walked through the conversation as per usual and it ends there (no fight breaks out, and you carry on as normal). In 5 previous play-throughs though this glitch has never happened.

JFYI...

I watched a youtube video and someone had the same thing. I think they were on xbox. It was very odd.

This is caused by an issue with the Meredith fight in pre-1.03 (1.02 for consoles) builds. Basically if you kill her before she has time to do her dialogues while she's supposed to have you stunned it will wreck your post-campaign.

All you need to do is go to the save before the fight, kill her again, and all will be well.

Hey, everyone. Just thought I'd come and give an update on some of the issues you're seeing as I said I would.

First of all, there appears to be some issue with Hawke:Companion 1 on 1 banters (not all of them though). The reason why the Fenris LI and the other ones are is completely a coincidence in that it's the only one that uses Hawke:Companion instead of Companion:Companion banter.

Second, currently if you complete Legacy the statue will reactive in the next act. Please ignore this for now - Legacy is not intended to be played in each act.

Third, a few people have mentioned that the Rogue/Mage armor uses the same art asset. This was intentional. Now, I'm sure the obvious 'why?!' question will jump in to your heads but I can't go in to those details so unfortunately you'll just have to accept it for what it is.

Thanks to everyone who has been helping with identifying these issues with me. As always, I'll keep you updated as best I can.

Any help I can get from Bioware with audio issues? The game music now sounds like a broken record or a seriously stretched out cassette tape on the green level. Pops are almost incessant, and there's a horrible echo on just about everything.

Did you try to 'force stereo sound'?

Try restarting your PC and hopefully it should reassign you to a different download stem. It's possible that for whatever reason there is some holdup with the download stem you've been assigned.
