Actually, for the patches, I think they just keep Owen in chains and make him do all the work.

David writes books (they probably still don't let him do it during work hours) instead of coming to the forums now, but I imagine he's already well underway with an expansion or DA3. Other than some banter, he probably doesn't even know what the story is in Legacy (yes, it's a joke). Mike and the other leads surely have nothing to do with DLC, except maybe if they had to go back over the work that was already done on Legacy when it turned out everybody hated DA2.

Yes, on both counts.

I tease them (they don't care enough to know that I'm teasing, but I do it anyway) by using very short timespans when talking about the rushed development of the game (I think 48 hours is the shortest I've accused them of so far).

And I tease precisely because I am, in fact, an idiot. I think that's why I still get that little bit of enjoyment from it.

Oh good.

I was concerned for a moment u was being a boob.

Glad ur not.

No.

How DLC sells, however, dictates how much mindshare the game still maintains. Initial sales of the game tell you how many people own the game, but it doesn't tell you how many are still looking for new experiences in that particular framework.

I could be completely off my mark, but doesn't this ignore players who dislike dlc, but might be willing to pick up an expansion? I feel like there would be a good portion of players who might ignore difference pieces of dlc because it doesn't appeal to them, but might consider a major expansion worth it.

Ex: How would Awakening's sales compare to Leliana's song or Return to Ostagor?

The thing is, Il Divo, I suspect that DLC too has a lot of different people buying it, so comparing the sales of a full-size stand-alone expansion to a piece of niche DLC like Leliana's song aren't necessarily going to tell you anything.

I would imagine that DLC like Legacy or Lair of the Shadowbroker sells a hell of a lot more than DLC like Leliana's song or even Witch Hunt, personally. Something that actually fits into the main game, adds a ton of content, and so on, is kind of like a mini-expansion, and probably has big sales, whereas DLC like Leliana's Song, which is to the side of the game, and only interacts with it in a limited way, probably doesn't sell particularly well - on the other hand it's probably cheaper and easier to develop, too.

I do think that there's a decent-sized group of players who will pick up a boxed expansion who would never purchase DLC, but I suspect that the "mind-share" argument probably relates there, like if 30% of players pick up a mini-expansion DLC, BioWare can probably guess that (say), 45% of players would pick up a full-scale expansion, and maybe more would pick up a stand-alone one, because some people who didn't even have the game would buy it.
