Same here - made for a fantastic group, and probably the most plot-relevant.

Yep, I did the same. It was a bit of a challenge, since my standard party in the rest of the game was Anders (LI), Fenris, and Aveline. But I had a feeling they'd be best for the plot, and it looks like I was right.

I plan on replaying it with my 2nd character this weekend with Fenris, Aveline, and a mage. Bethany's dead in that game, and I hate using Merril - but can someone tell me if Merril has any story specific things that happen with her? Cos if she does, I'll probably suck it up and use her instead of Anders again.

Yes, if your sibling is alive he/she can accompany you.

Aveline, Bethany, Varric.

Varric and Bethany were main staples of the DLC since it revolved around them more than any other set of characters. Aveline cause she's my tank and I was using my rogue Hawke.

My warrior M!Hawke went with Anders -love interest-, Varric and Fenris.
I wanted to bring Bethany but if I did then I would have had 3 out of 4 be ranged attacks. I like having at least one other warrior with me.
