didn't they say the 'beings of light' were born at the beginning of time?

50,000 years ago would predate most, if not all species' written history. So "at the beginning of time" could be a metaphor, of sorts. Only the hanar have an oral tradition that tells of contact with the Enkindlers, which were believed to be Prothean.

Oh, good point. That certainly does make sense. And I guess i would prefer the beings of light being someone we already know rather than a deus ex machina against the Reapers.

I am in the process of posting this up on a separate website and re-writing large chunks of it. Be on the lookout for the final section very soon!

Awesome, I look forward to reading what you post bboynexus (I read what you posted on the Steam Forums, but will re-read the dissertation if you are re-writing parts of it).

Geez, that's what I call overzealous moderation, BSN wouldn't exist if people were banned that easily here!

Ah, forum tyranny. Where would we be without it?

Out of curiosity, are you rewriting parts with the recent story leaks in mind?

I would have said the BSN but they're anarchists compared to Steam it seems.

Define this "terrible writing"... I have read the leaked script and it seems on par with ME2 at least.

I don't want any of the 'Story Leak' dogma cluttering this thread, if that's OK. I've heard people's general reactions to it, and I'm fully aware how bad it can get.

Is it worse than ME2?

The story leaks are bad like Mass Effect 2?

ME2 has a lot of terrible writing (but a lot of good writing too). ME3 however takes it to a new level with the bad. It by far outweighs the good (and there IS some good).

Alright, alright. Out of respect I won't say anymore.

In any case I will be curious to see what you think of ME3 when it's relased.

It's a matter of personal preference and expectations. I have loved almost everything I've seen from the leaks so far. My suggestion is to just ignore people's complaints/praise for now and judge the game on your own terms when it's released.

Just read the whole thing, REALLY interesting stuff. Can't believe nobody thought that there might've been a "good version" of the reapers, those "beings of light" he talked about that that Volus had found some message from. I thought maybe that meant there had been a race, where some wanted to meld together into one entity (aka become a reaper) and some thought that was wrong (or maybe another race entirely, I dunno). This could be related to The Leviathan of Dis as well. Really great stuff. I'm sure there will be LOTS of awesome revelations in ME3 for sure!

Thanks to whoever bumped this. The linked thread is a good read so far, if a rather flawed one.

"The Collectors were simply getting a head-start in preparation for the culling of Earth during the Reaper invasion."

I've been arguing against this silliness in PMs recently. What the hell do they need a head start for? This "head start" gets the attention of humans (Cerberus) who then go and destroy the collector base. This should not have been a particularly big surprise to the reapers. What were they thinking? What did they even stand to gain by starting the human reaper early?

It's just a broken plot, plain and simple.
