So Ive been thinking about a build idea latly for a Rogue Warden in Dragonage but I cant test it currently due to time constraints.

I was thinking about the character Black Whirlwind from Water Margin, one of my favorite books and also the homage characters to him in Dynasty Warriors and Jade Empire and I thought can you make him in Dragonage?

Experimental Build,  Origins probably not optimum but in Awakening has alot of potential.

Rogue class
Focus is going to be talent spaming with duel weapons. More of a Warrior type rogue.
I thought lets really experiment with this build and deviet from the Str rogue mindset.
So the idea is to get 36 Dex Naturaly and 31 Str with bonuses from items and everything else into Cunning.
Dex is kinda simple as you only need 30 Dex+4 from the Fade and +2 from Spec. Str is pretty easy to boost im thinking you only need around 26-28 natural (Or more as needed for armor).
Then build yourself as a Cun rogue.

For specs go with Duelist/Bard for the bonuses those provide.
Namely the Attack bonuses they give. Dueling+Song of Courage helps your lower attack score alot.
Also they are fitting for a character who work themselves into a whirling frenzy on the battlefield.

Not really sure about armor, im thinking a mix and match would be best. The Provacateur chest though is certainly helpful for the bonus stamina in a talent spamming build as well as the high reguard of house dace.

The main tenet of this build is to be a duel axe wielder though, namely two Veshialle which is possible even without exploiting. Duel wielding The Veshialle and spaming duel wield talents is the idea behind this build. Conceivably this gets even better with the Legionare Scout class in Awakening boosting your Str to the point you could wear heavy armor if you wanted too. (Im thinking Evons set) and of course leave it open to pick up Vigilence and the Sentinal armor for looks.

What do you think? any comments or ideas? has anyone played something like this yet?

This build appears to be particularly effective in Awakening as you gain access to much more attribute points and can setup as Duelist/Bard/Legion Scout where its survivability greatly increases with the Scouts talents.

ooh interesting. Ya, keep us updated. I'm currently building a warrior type rogue as well, but have just started.

I thought that the Black Whirlwind was a Duel Wielding Warrior Berserker.

Thanks for this build, sir. Would you recommend to use Momentum?

I'd imagine you'd get Momentum for any rogue. You'd also need Dual Weapon Master to wield 2 Veshialles. If you're going to build up strength a little bit, you might also want to get the Str-based weapon skills-forget the names right now though. Other than that, it's a Cunning Rogue with a little bit Strength, enough for weapon and gear requirements.

Thanks Mike. I want to use this build with Leliana. She already got two Veshialles.

Sorry for the double post.

Since I have two mages in my party I want to use Haste with one of them (I love increased movement speed). So I have to deactivate Momentum. Is this a good or bad idea?

If you're on PC this mod fixes it as well as a bunch of others. You could also use haste on both mages, which will put the entire party at the cap without going over it.

Ultimately though, if you're talent spamming the slight decrease in autoattack speed won't be an issue. In fact, since rogues don't have deathblow you probably wouldn't want to activate momentum until your talents are all on cooldown anyway.

Thanks for the mod suggestion. Double Haste + Momentum is hilarious. :D

That mod keeps the cap at 0.5, it just makes it so if you go over you stay at 0.5 rather than being reset to 1. No 5x attack speed with double haste and momentum (and what would double haste, momentum and swift salve be then?)

I have noticed the cap. Too bad you can't get past 0.5. :D

One problem I see with the OP's original post about spamming talents. I'd imagine you might get Cripple and Punisher, but those talents use a Strength check vs. Cunning for Riposte. You might need to have more of a Strength/Cunning balance to properly utilize those talents. Lethality would help with the damage modifier, but I don't think it would help with the talent checks.

It depends on when you do the DLC. His armor varies from tier 5 to tier 7. I believe the lowest tier requires 34-36 STR, but if you don't upgrade it it won't get rune slots in Awakenings.
