I seem to be locked out of this achievement. I have played through the game over several times. Two of the play throughs have over 1000 kills each and the achievement has still not activated. I guess I'll have to find a work around to get it to pop  any ideas?!?

It rtegisters 1000 darkspawn kills made by the main character. So save just after meeting the legion of the dead and tell your party to stay back while you go solo across the bridge. Then reload and repeat until it pops.

It was intended to be earned over multiple playthroughs, but something got tweaked with the last patch and it now only registers if you do it with one character. So yes, as randomcheeses suggested, pick your favorite area with lots of darkspawn to slaughter and your easiest character to solo it with and slaughter/re-load until you get it. It can be useful to have one of the mages nearby to apply buffs and heal only.

You have to do it with your main character only and in a single playthrough. Due to a current bug.
Many people suggest doing this during the Siege of Denerim in the Alienage area, by saving at the start. Soloing through the area. Saving a new save then reloading the old save at the start and doing it again.
