These are the people i would like to have as permanent squad members in ME3 and why. What do you guys think?
(1) Liara- she is my romance option and i just love liara
(2) Tali- no explanation needed
(3) Legion- I came to really like Legion in ME2 and would like to have him in more missons for ME3.
(4) Female krogan or turian- Just to see what they look like
(5) Grunt or Wrex- Mostly wrex cause i have ps3 and couldnt play ME1 and krogans are the most badass species
(6) If tali isnt available the quarian who sounds like morrigan from dragon age origins cause morrigan is almost as awesome as liara

Well, Garrus and Tali (if alive), Liara, James Vega (the new guy with the muscles and the mohawk), and either Kaidan or Ashley (depending on who's still alive) are already confirmed to be permanent squaddies.

I would like Grunt and Jack back since they're tons of fun and have nothing better to do. I love Wrex, Legion, and Mordin, but I think they can do more good elsewhere. I have no idea what is going to happen with Miranda and Jacob, and I suspect that Samara/Morinth, Thane, Kasumi, and Zaeed will all have fairly minimal roles.

I want a batarian.

From what devs have said, the only ones that will be in everybody's game are the VS, Liara and Vega. The rest are all either recruitable or with your for one mission.

They've also said "nobody is permanent" though I don't know if that means everybody but Shepard only come and go with you having no control over it or that you'll run into situations often where you can lose people ala Wrex and the Suicide Mission, and you'll have to take casualties.

The characters who I assume are squadmates for a long time are....

The VS....Ash/Kai.
Liara.
James Vega.
And a completely new squadmate.

The ME2 squadmates can't be permanent. But they can still play a decent role in ME3.

Didn't Garrus and Tali get confirmed as "permanent" squadmates?

I assume Garrus and Tali are of the "permanent but you don't have to have them" variety.

Permanent means if you like a character, you get to keep him/her during the whole game and that you're not forced to sacrifice them, watch them leave 2-3 missions after they joined or hear them say that they'd join but have more important stuff to do

I'd describe permanent as being possible to use the member from the time you get to them to the end of the game. Even if you could lose them, or have to lose others to keep them, so long as you have the option.

For me:

1.) Legion- Awesome Sniper with fascintating dialog and perception...I want to explore it further.
2.) Thane- Another awesome Sniper with dialog and perception I would like to explore futher.
3.) Kasumi- Best CQC combatent and please BW, hopefully LI and love her combat comments.
4.) Garrus- Bad *ss with a heart of gold, awesome sniper and combat comments.
5.) Kaidan- Nice guy all around and should have a Biotic.
6.) Samara- Makes up the team as another Biotic and I find her quite interesting.

Thats what I mean by permanent they can stay with you to the end not just a couple of missons or have to sacrifice them.

i couldnt live without liara, and i really would like to see thane back, and i think it would be awesome to find a prothean in some sort of stasis pod and have him as a squadie
