On the companion quest for Aveline on The Long Road:

After I help her on the patrols through the wounded coast, and after Donnic comes to visit aveline when we're back in the barracks (giggle), I am supposed to talk to aveline again. Well...every single time I speak with Aveline now I crash to desktop. It seems the appropriate script/conversation is having difficulty engaging. I have had this issue with other conversations at times - but absolutely no issues with graphics.

I have it on steam and  yes I have made sure my files are validated correctly. I'm at a loss as to what to do, as I searched google with absolutely no one having this issue save one German, who apparently patched it to 1.03 - i'd assume steam did this for me automatically though - and it was working for him.

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem at the same point in the quest.

I am running DA2 v1.03 (not on Steam) and Windows 7 SP1 (fully patched), nVidia driver v275.33

I don't think that this is the nVidia driver issue, as this only happens at this one point in the game.

The Dragon Age 2 Wikia does mention a similar bug, but not at the point that we are experiencing:

Any ideas?

Well, at the very least I am glad I am not the only one experiencing this, as it seems it's extremely rare. I tended to pick the "top" answers when it came to this quest - as in, the most "good" (in terms of alignment) responses.

I somehow doubt this caused it though, but I may be wrong. No one has any ideas? This is really bugging me, because I don't wish to move on without completing my companion quests :(

I'm reinstalling as we speak. Will test afterwards to see if it's fixed...

Not at all thrilled that no one else seems to have had this problem.

Nope. Reinstalled. Still crashing. Is this related to the nvidia thing or not? Would love some confirmation here...

Fenster - if you've got DX11 active, try disabling it and running through the scene again. If it crashes, the answer is no.

Yeah, got frustrated enough that I rolled back my drivers to test - i realize this is an easy process, but i honestly did not expect it to be this because I assumed a conversation has nothing to do with a driver.

To confirm: yes, it seems to be the latest nvidia drivers. Try rolling back your drivers Judge Chuck to 270, and test. It worked for me.

Seems to be intermittent problems, Fenster. Mostly with regards to DX11. HOPEFULLY new drivers from nvidia soon which are supposed to fix it.

I'll test in DX9 mode to see if that makes a difference, rather than rolling back my drivers just yet. Will report back shortly...

Beta drivers with a fix have been released, Chuck and Fenster, if you'd rather use those.

I will, thanks... Just FYI, simply running the game in DX9 mode gets round the problem...
