Well, I looked at that tutorial, and it's extremely complicated. I'm not sure it's actually necessary, since I'm using player_core for my followers, not a custom one. Do you think it'll be able to find my custom AL table without that custom code?

These methods are to be called upon recruiting them in your script for adding the party members.
I wouldn't think it good practice to expect another quite unrelated mod for all the players as the default table is really, really bad, as they have many low-level spells/talents being added and are useless on higher levels.
How do you exactly add your followers? Copying that header file, #include-ing it and calling the long method shouldn't be that big a problem.

I call one of these scripts for each follower (with the tag different in each case):
#include "utility_h"
void main() {
object oFollower = GetObjectByTag("tchos_mage");
UT_HireFollower(oFollower); //Hires the follower
SetPartyPickerGUIStatus(2);
ShowPartyPickerGUI(); //Shows the Party Picker; necessary for the follower to gain XP
}

And they level up properly?
The other script can easy be copy-pasted into another script that you #include and the method is simple and the followers gain XP properly without any need for the party picker. the UT_HireFollower() has some bugs.

I'm pretty sure they did level up properly, but I could be misremembering. I don't want to playtest again right now to check for sure, but I believe they do. The code comment mentions about gaining XP for leveling up.
Anyway, I made a custom table for the healer, but I'll have to let it sit for a while before looking at it again.

I'm not sure how to integrate custom AL tables with that kind of hiring script, but somehow the followers gained XP properly for me when I played the module with a level 20 character, so it might be possible to make a small edit to that script.
Maybe take a look at the AL part of the custom follower hire script (on the wiki) and just copy those sections over?

Or perhaps just rearrange the parameters so that the ones he would like to leave at default value are last. They're referred to by variable name anyways. I posted the AL part on the last page btw.
