Devs, of all companies need to stop adjusting their games based upon spazballs who hang out on forums.
i love DAO and i love DA2. some day, if a loud minority made bio care about their opinion, and changed their game philosophies, i would be disappointed.
if the loud minority got their wish, we would be playing "the witcher, origins too"...
and to tell you the truth, i have played and enjoyed DA2 way more than both witchers combined. so bioware is doing something right, maybe not for everyone, but for someone like me who has been here since before Baldur's Gate launched, and everything since, that counts for something...

Mostly right on, however, The Witcher games are much better than both DA games. CD Projeckt listens to fans without being slaves to them.
Bioware needs to keep going the direction they want to go and innovate the series, and going back to Dragon Age Origins is the worst thing they can do. Its like giving up because everything didn't work out as they planned. Plus, except for the repeating and recycled dungeons, DAII's flaws are simply exaggerated, while DAO's are glossed over. And really the #1 problem is that the game was rushed, far more than either gameplay or story problems. It was the world design that was responsible for 95% of the games problems.
DAO was so generic and so conservative that it would really kill the series to go back to it.

There is a middle ground however, they can take the best of origins and combine it with what DID work with DA2. Neither game was perfect but saying either one is definitively the direction DA3 and future games should go in would be a mistake in my opinion.

You see, by saying they should stop listening to fans, you're saying they shouldn't listen to you either. Which means they should listen to their fans.
The fans aren't demanding the devs do anything. We're giving them suggestions on how to make the series better. Whether they do or not is up to them, as it is their game and they are within their right to do what they wish, as it is their series and not ours. However, they still take what the fans say to heart and more often than not they agree with most of the valid points that are made.
And trust me, if they made the next DA like the Witcher in terms of certain things, people wouldn't like that. Fixed protagonist? Screw you Bioware, not again!
All people are asking for when they say "Make DA like the Witcher" is "Make DA have an actual story that makes sense and do more showing, not telling."

Well in that case. IMHO BioWare's "innovations" in DA2 are hardly innovations. Therefore BioWare should stop innovating and listen to the fans who are the ones who pre-order their games, which made up most of the sales.
You cannot sugar coat everything with "Oh this is just my opinion" and everything would be grand.
" to tell you the truth, i have played and enjoyed DA2 way more than both witchers combined."
Well in my opinion, this statement completely invalidates whatever the OP says.
At the end of the day, opinions on forums are hardly anything worth caring. Just like what I have said so far. So enough with the IMO. Whatever you post on forums are already classified as Just Your Opinion.

^ This.
Both games had there own strenghts and the own weakness. Take the strenghts of both and fix the weakness thats what good Devs Etc... do. Oh and take a page out Squares Enix... release classic game updated with fresh graphics, some add story bits and some nice Fan extras and the will keep the ravenous base quiet for a bit whislt you get back to task at hand... I'm serious.
FF Fans: FF 13 RAWWWRRRR Blah blah RAGGEEE!
SE: Here you go a re-release touched up verison of FF 4 and FF 6.
FF Fans:
SE: Back to work guys that should hold them for while.
Jokes aside really they just need to take it all with a grain of salt and listen to the good suggestions throw out the bad ones and understand that no matter what you do - some fans you will never satisfy.

Hm... I actually agree with the OP... I mean, it's all well and good to be a fan, but artists and writers should not allow themselves to be beholden to the opinions of others. They should just do what they do, and if people like it, great, if not, somebody else will... I mean, there are some really extreme opinions on these and other forums that I've read, and a lot of people seem to agree with them. I'd hate to see some of this stuff implemented in games just because a bunch of vocal... fans... thought it was a good idea.
Well, sh*t, man, I'd take the opinion of a random forumite over the opinion of an EA exec any day of the week.

Bioware is going to try new things to see how they can change the player experience, hopefully making it better. One of the things they use is feedback from the fans.
I think that most people who say that the company shouldn't listen to their fans are just afraid. They're afraid of some aspect that they loved in the game will be changed, and it'll ruin their experience. I understand that. I have stuff I love in the games too that I wouldn't want changed or taken out, but I'm not going to tell BW that they should stop listening.

I don't remember people screaming for Darkspawn that look like clowns, elves that look plain silly, or Qunari that look like candy cane tatooed weirdos with stupid horns.
All of the really random design changes that made this game such a joke in my eyes either didn't come from the fans, or came from a demographic so small I didn't hear about it. This game reminds me of the Will Smith western with the giant spider; you sit there (the one time you watch it) and wonder who the hell they made this for;
Bioware is certainly free to keep making games like DA2 but whether it will bring in the revenues they hope for remains to be seen.

Honestly I don't know what Laidlaw wants but I know he's not actively thinking "hm, what's the best way to ruin DA?"
He's a good designer but his STYLE is more akin to games like Jade Empire and more action RPGs not tactical RPGs like DA.
As a result, the request for better combat was taken as a valid complaint to make everyone in DA2 fight like JE NPC wannabes.
