Things like this ****** me off; I don't have LIVE, I cannot get it where I live. Therefore I cannot get LoTSB, or Arrival, now I stuck right out of the loop because Bioware takes it for granted we can all get it. >:/

Yet another reason I refuse to play games on consoles, where my content is restricted to whatever the manufacturers decide I can have.

It's also unfair to console players since they can't get DLC. It's not optional for them and they're forced into a plot based on actions they couldn't even choose or make.

Yeah, my friend has that problem since she's on PS3, and thus had no idea what was going on, as she couldn't get ME1 so Wrex was dead and so was the council. She was also all "LOL who is this person and why are they pissed at me?" when she was on Horizon.

That is why those on PS3 got the shaft and EA just did a money grab by releasing part two of a trilogy without part one.  Which Sony will never get unless EA pays MS a buttload of cash.

PS3 came with Genesis and Wrex isn't dead unless the player choose that.  If your friend didn't install that, that is on your friend.  They tried to help the PS3 players, but it didn't work out very well and Genesis only allowed a few major desissions and they missed most of the game.

But you all seem to forget the fact, that the shepard's trial is not just about arrival, it is also to do with shepards actiities with cerberus.

Arrival is a no-win scenario. The Kobayashi Maru of Mass Effect. I play a strongly paragon Shep, and I loved the DLC simply because it threw my character's high-mindedness right back in her face. You don't always HAVE a choice. And as someone else said in this thread, if you imagined your Shepard SO paragonish that he/she wouldn't blow up the relay--considering the consequences--then he/she isn't Spectre or Alliance material.

Yeah and the worst thing is, the Genesis prologue comic didn't include Feros at all, which leads me to believe that the Torian isn't going to play a major role in ME3. I really hoped we would see a return of the Torian or perhaps we would hear more about it but all we got is a silly mini-mini-side-quest in ME2 with a colonist survivor. Such a shame...

I personally loved the fact that my shepard wasn't given a choice in the matter. It was just something that had to be done or everyone and everything would be dead. Plus, like everyone's saying, the council would nab you for something else anyway. If you want arrival, get it. If you don't, don't.

I'd like to point out that I was railroaded into being an Alliance Marine in ME1. How dare Bioware force me into a situation where the complete backstory of my character wasn't avaiable for me tweak to my complete liking..

ME1 players got put into interesting situations based on thier backgrounds. Paragon or not, an Earthborne was a gang member. A Sole Surviror turned out to not be the sole survivor of the thresher maw incident on Akuze. When I made those choices I inherited some decisions. I never got to choose whether I was an Alliance Marine or not. That's a part of the backbone of my character which the developers laid out for me as a necesary element for thier story.

Who's to say that my time spent in the gang didn't create enemies for me? Or that I had rivals or created enemies while going through my N7 training? Or that I killed someone's loved one under the service of the Alliance pre-ME1 or between ME1 and 2 and that person starts hunting down every member of the team that was present when it happened. Paragon or Renegade, the same decisions can be made coming from dramatically different idealogies and preferences. And sometimes, life happens.

The fact is, Shepard is not a blank slate character and the games don't account for all of his life or actions. So you're going to get some predetermined, canon baggage. Some based off of decisions you personally had Shepard make. Some based off things that happened within the universe that were outside of your control. The canonical actions that Shepard takes are main plot points. Those plot points aren't limited to decisions made in-game and can occur outside of it.

Had there been no Arrival DLC, they still could move the plot forward in that same direction with everyone's Shepard standing trial on Earth for the Alpha Relay incident. There, no one would have been able to see what happened. At least with Arrival we can see what happened and how it went down, and we can realize that our Shepards got dealt a hand. For those who didn't play Arrival, you can still get dealt that hand. That doesn't mean that it didn't happen. It did.

You just won't get the benefit of having experienced that part of the story for yourself and will have to get used to it the same way that you got used to Shepard being an Alliance Marine if this is as integral to ME3 as that was to ME1.

The prologue and intro to the game is fine, as far as an interesting plot device.

What's bad about it is the lingering stink from the Arrival DLC, ME3 may be the best thing since gaming came along, but the colossal failure of that DLC, that actually harmed the franchise, puts a putrid stink on the intro to this greatly anticipated game.

OP, I wont spoil anything specific, but the reason you would be on trial regarding that particular DLC is scripted. even if you played it, certain unfortunate events will play out as necessary occurrences. watch a video on YouTube of someone playing it or take advantage of the current discounts on ME2 DLC.

The only thing that really bugs me about the prologue is the possibilty that Shepard is going to have to justify why he alowed a Batarian colony to get destroyed in order to prevent the Reapers from invading the galaxy and the Alliance will dismiss him as being delusional ( as usual ) because they don't believe in the Reapers. I'm really sick and tired of the plot where noone believes Shepard ab out the Reapers, I know alot of people think it is funny, especially the way the Turain Ambasador on the Citadel is so pig headed about the whole entire Reaper threat ( and alot of these people are just dying to rub it back in his face ) but for me the joke has never been funny. I hate repetition and I don't like the fact that ME, ME2 and now ME3 have placed Shepard in a very similar role to 'Chicken Little' or the 'Boy who Cried Wolf', I just want to get on with saving the Universe, I don't want to waste any time with this frace of a trial.

I'm also not keen on the fact that 'my Shepard's' Spectre status miight be ignored completelly when it comes to this stupid trial. There arn't enough words in the english language to describe how angry I would be if my Shepard got stripped of his Spectre status or if it meant nothing and was completely ignored in ME3.

Because it was explicitly designed to set the stage for the opening of ME3. Just because there were bad reviews doesn't mean it can or should be ignored.

So why use it as the basis? Why not use more popular DLC as a basis, or just put the intended ending in the actual game? It makes no sense that the prologue is based on a DLC made long after the game's release. As Xarathox said, it's a fiasco.

Which supports my assumption that BioWare have literally been "winging" it since after ME1.

Exactly!!!

It makes perfect sense. Arrival was made as a lead-in to ME3. They didn't know how popular or unpopular it was going to be when they made it, and it's popularity doesn't change the purpose.

I don't have it either and chances are I probably won't get it. I share my house with a lot of people s. The internet is used pretty much 24/7. So I really am not able to download things very much. The only dlc I have is lotsb because of Liara. As long as they do a good job of bringing me up to speed about the events that took place in Arrival I'd be ok. But if they just assume I played it (highly unlikely) then I'd agree and be pretty pissed too.

No. I've seen worse. It's not the best prologue, but it gets the story moving. That's good enough for me from what I've seen so far.
