SAVED???

:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O
Regarding the Reaper coresUpon careful evaluation, I think we may be safe from a saturated atmosphere of ezo, dumped from a dead Reaper.
YES - when a ship is destroyed, its ezo core often explodes, spewing the element zero everywhere.
BUT - this is (as far as we can tell) only true for your conventional ship!

Do you see??? The Normandy, one of the most advanced ships in the galaxy, has an open core containing element zero. Even the SR2's core is only (in retrospect) lightly armored! When the Normandy, or a cruiser, or a frigate is destroyed, of course they would expel vast amounts of ezo into surrounding space. destroying the ship would likely cause these cores + machinery containing them to shatter and explode.
BUT A REAPER?

Its drive core is HEAVILY protected by armor in ME2, and god knows what other protections they have when fully active. Maybe Sovereign did explode, but its not wholly unreasonable to assume that its drive core didn't, especially considering that many pieces of Sovereign were stolen from salvage teams at the end of ME1.
Perhaps when even a fully powered Reaper is attacked lets its drive core, to minimize internal damage, automatically go into shielding mode. The core would be one of the surviving pieces of a Reaper corpse, albeit probably indoctrination-free :-)
Now, it may be that a dying Reaper automatically un-shields its drive core so that it WILL explode. But I kind of doubt that. An over exposure of ezo might interfere with other Reapers, and since the Reapers seem to only fight in groups 99% of the time (ignoring Nazara because she is the in-galaxy scout), it wouldn't exactly be beneficial to other Old Machines.
Saved?
