It would be great if the AI was coded to avoid hazardous areas (fire walls, lighting, ice, etc) and had better pathfinding (since they always got stuck on the rocks).

It was good, but felt unfinished and glitchy.

It might be one of the best Dragon Age boss battles of all time. The entire thing was great, from the companion banter.

@TiaraBlade Templar Hawke + Silence MURDERS the last boss. Not kidding.

I may try it later but I just HATE HATE HATE this battle!

Just so many things:

1. as mentioned, when you tell your party to hold somewhere relatively safe and THEY STILL RUN INTO THE FLAMES!!! G**D*****T do what I am telling you to do.

2. it's almost impossible to damage him as a solo melee if your other characters die

3. Can't res (I don't know what those potions are and I'm trapped in that area anyway so I can't go out and buy anything) due to the climatic events of DA2 since my only spirit healer was Anders

4. Those flames do WAAAAY too much damage! The first one I lost was Aveline- she NEVER dies on me! NEVER! She went toe to toe with the final Pride demon (the optional one) and her health bar barely moved.

Games are supposed to be fun and this wasn't fun. It's one thing to be a challenge and I have felt accomplishment in beating such things but in this case with my party members just doing stupid things, among other stuff, it felt cheap.

I don't think others are having the same problem....

Don't -hold- party members....
WAIT for the flames to pass before running to the next enclove. Like literally run after the flames as they pass.

When you have to touch a statue WAIT for your party to run to your side before touching it.

Make sure you equip some mythrils favour
Make sure your characters have some degree of FIRE resistance.

I was a level 25/26 when I played.

I don't know if its specific party's or something, but that didn't happen to me. I had Mage Hawke, Aveline, Carver and Varric and I only had to revive Aveline once, when I think she got stuck in the maze. Other than that, it was smooth sailing, where I went, they followed, no problems.

The last boss battle was teidous and fustrating. On nightmare I practically played as Anders, activated all the pillars at once, kited the shades with damaging from Corprious flames Then Revived everyone fought Corprious and repeat. Trying to manually place your team every 5 second to avoid the flames was a cheap way of drawing out the battle more than it should have been. I turned it down to causal to get it over with.

Nightmare more fustrating than hard.  Though I sometime find a bit enjoyable when I play as any rogue with stealth and cheaply disapear when my team dies on me. I then hide in the corner let what ever enemy  walk way then attack. But any team AOE damage talents or spells I avoid as much as I can. I don't fill out all the 2 handed. I don't fill out or use some of the the S&S talents. And the team is basically one melee and three ranged, no Dual weapon rogue.

I play on Normal, so for all you Insanity people, sorry can't do it, but with a level 25 mage sporting pretty decent fire resistance that battle is easy. The thing to remember is you aren't in combat, so on normal you regin health pretty quickly so wait until the fire passes, tag the statue kill the shades real quick focus fire with entire party and you will be out of combat before the fire come again. At the edges I was taking between 1 and 12 damage on my different party members which healed as fast as they took it. Once the fire passed on the PC hit Cntrl-A to select entire party and move to next tower for rinse and repeat. Only party member who died was Merril on a pathing issue, which was silly, but otherwise no issue what so ever.

I finished on nightmare with my lvl 21 mage Hawke (forcemage/spirit healer). Party: Carver (only for the dialogue), Varric and Anders. I used more than 25 health pots, and was a tough battle mainly because Carver sucks. I also used the equips that i had for the High Dragon fight, so the fire AOE was not so problematic. I really enjoyed this battle.

I liked it. My mage's spirit healing came in handy a LOT. It was definitely a challenge.

I enjoyed it. I lol'd when I finally died after outsurving my whole party most of that battle the first time. It's a much uglier battle if you have no resists, I think most of my party had "enemies drop more coins" runes equiped, opps, hahaha. The second time I played, I wanted to use my warrior that rivalmanced Anders and apparently I never picked up the fire resist rune recipe thing. DOUBLE OPPS. I did bring along a few maker sighs though and right before the battle made Anders and Bethany drink it and remapped them to take the Arcane Sheild and upgrade it all the way, as well as remapping my warrior to take Elemental Aegis and Rally - a well timed rally to share the omni resist helped alot.

Also, it does seem a little dependant on luck, can't lie. Sometimes Allies will follow just fine, sometimes they get stuck then quickly die and even a few times... don't ask me why... they'd run around, the opposite direction and slam straight into the flames instead of following me and staying behind, ugh. Mrythals Favor to the rescue, lol.

Anders, Fenris, and Bethany accompanied my Archery Rogue. We wiped on the first try, but easily beat Cory the second try on Hard. Companions on Defensive makes them follow you a bit better. Not to mention, the group move-to option is a life savior. I thought it was a good fight. Challenging enough to be entertaining, but not boring.

I liked it...it was better then just standing toe-to-toe and blasting away...

BUT: why in the hell can't they include LOS into spell attacks. The flames, and anything he shot at you went straight through walls and the rocky outcroppings of the maze he threw up. I hate that. Hey, you can block it for me and my party too.

If you were level 21 then Carver should have the Templar spec, in which case he has silence, and silence is a great skill.

I loved this battle. It drove me crazy, with my party getting stuck on things, but then I figured out making sure I moved so they followed me, and it started to make sense. I had to play through three times and finally won, and I'm so proud of myself for not changing it off hard (though if I died once more I probably would have.)

It's a very entertaining battle. I feel bad for the people who hate it, though, because it's not exactly quick.

Yep, its a great skill, but he is no match for Aveline.

I beat this on nightmare mode. The trick is to select all party members (I find it easier to map my mousewheel to select all) and keep them right behind the flame. Grab the tank, have him/her open a seal, taunt and join your party. Burn them down one at a time using the cast/move/cast/move method. Don't rush the game. On your first attempt, I suggest not worrying at all about the seals and just practice dodging a couple rounds of fire; this will give you time to practice good/bad ways of maneuvering and prevent being stuck behind the rocks.

Interesting boss fight but marred by the horrible pathfinding. Having to keep track of your surroundings is a good challenge, the kind that I play games for, babysitting every team member is not.
Like others, I was playing on nightmare with my warrior without Anders and I didn't have any of those res pots either. It was far easier to complete a fire phase with just one member (and I didn't find any safe place to stash away the other 3). Eventually I did reach the final phase with my warrior alive and turned down to casual to solo him - fair in my book, especially since I had wasted all my health potions trying to keep the rest alive, in vain.

Ultimately, nice concept but ruined by lack of polish - it doesn't take that long to notice that there are a couple of spots where the AI members keep getting stubbornly stuck.

Loved the fight. Beat it on nightmare though I understood your frustration about getting the companion's pathing correctly.

Well how I did it was if they died, I just controlled whoever was left alive and continue to dodge the fire and fight the shades at the same time. It was easier to control, say, two companions than four. Eventually, all of them died and only Hawke was left. Since I was a spirit healer, a quick revive did the trick when the fire was gone.

Haha,I also had A LOT of difficulty with this fight because of that accursed fire attack Dx Everyone died almost instantly on hard,so I got frustrated and put it to casual after only one try XD Died pretty fast on the second try too,but by the third time(second on casual) I got the hang of babysitting all of the characters to where they lived for at least 1/3 of the battle and then it was just me and Beth taking him on. Then we finally brought him down together ^^ Sibling power yeah! A lot of fights were really tough for me on hard in the DLC so I switched the game difficulty a lot during those 3 hrs x3

I thought it was a really lame boss battle. The banter was good... but it was essentially learning a formula, as if I was playing Zelda instead of DA2. It didn't feel like a tactical battle, it felt more like running a rat maze.

I played it the same way as stewie here and had no problems, or rather didn't have too many problems   =)    just enough for it to be a fun fight. Not supposed to be too easy. I liked it, best bossfight I have played in a DA-game  Image IPB

Not sure if this has been brought up allready, but having your party members drink some Life Ward potions in advance greatly helps. It is a potion that can be crafted from 4 Elfroot and 3 Spindleweed. When the party member that drank it dies, that party members goes to 40% health and has one injury.

It is especially usefull when combined with a Spirit Healer who has the Second Chance skill.
