ran through it 1st time with reaver, varric, merril and aveline.Just DPSed my way though it was actually easy.2nd time was rogue, aveline, merril and bethany was a bit harder but i found out that if u just focus on killing the protectors ,even running ahead of the flames its a bit easier, the hardest part for me was my first time i didnt pay enough attention trying to navigate thru the ligtning and sknow. If u pay attention here its rather easy

I thought the boss battle was the best one in Dragon Age so far. You needed to think and be responsive, not just hack and slash. The obstacles that were put in place were kinda hard especially since you had to take your whole party with you. Ultimately, it was a challenging and fun battle.

Went to meet Corypheus on normal difficulty, having no idea what to expect. My entire team was incinerated on first try, ofc, since I stopped to watch the pretty flames.

Second attempt I managed to avoid the manic flamethrower, but the rest of the team did not. Basically, they went for the minions, got caught in wall of fire, miraclously survived, then ran to their glorious leader through the flames and died. At this point, after much facepalming, I realized that I didn't need no hetchmen to kick ass and solo'd magistrate turned darkspawn down. It was simply too much of a pain to micro the companions.

Indeed, since it wasn't even too difficult, I feel that BW should've made it a solo bossfight. It should've been easy enough to cut Hawke off the rest of them with a well placed forcefield in cutscene. Oh well, it was good enough anyway. Can't complain about it being a boring dps race or tank competition with all those twists.

My first encounter with Corypheus ended really quickly; I didn't realize how much damage those flames could do and I kept trying to use hold on my companions. Once you figure out the fire patterns and such it goes much smoother. Sure, it can be a difficult fight but I don't think it's completely impossible.

Personally, I think that the final boss in Golems of Amgarrak (DA:O DLC) is worse.

It was a bit boring because the spirits took forever to catch up to me but other than that I really liked it. Much better than other DLC bosses (cough Harvester cough).

I beat it on hard on the second try. I had Varric/Anders/Beth and my assassin rogue and Cory went down in no time. Tried to avoid the flames first, but then noticed that in the alcoves my party doesn't get that much damage, so just stayed there to kill those demons, waited for the flames to pass (at that time putting party on hold, because Varric, for example, in battles tends to run to the other side of the room if not taken care of) and then moved to the next pillar.

Beat him my first time on Hard. I used Fenris (2h tank), Isabella and Sebastian; myself being the Force/Elemental mage of the group. Isabella and Sebastian ended up dying halfway through the maze+ice+lightning combo (I forgot my potions to revive at home), but it wasn't any big deal since I knew Fenris and I could take the rest of him on our own, and if we couldn't I'd know better next time.

This was the best fight I've ever encountered in the Dragon Age series. The mechanics were hard, though familiar since I've raided everything in WoW during the apex of their 'awesomeness'. The astronomical feeling that Corypheus gave me when going from one harsh scenario to the next made me squeal for joy while playing. I hope to beat this on Nightmare soon. Thanks for a colossal battle to end what was a monstrously beautiful piece of content, Bioware.

I loved the last boss fight. Don't know how it's on nightmere, but on hard it is just a perfect ballance of fun and chalange. All it takes is to figure out the weakneses of his spells and fight becomes as ease as pie.

The secret boss at the arena was much harder.

This 'issue' with putting party members on hold was known to me long before this DLC. Basically, the party members you put on hold will stay where you put them until the character you're controlling moves too far away. Slightly annoying? Okay true but once known this can't hurt.

One easy way to beat him is to just hit on him when you can, then instead of running around like an idiot to avoid his fire attack, put your party members on hold near one of the pillars you need to tag. Let the fire get close, hit the pillar and kill the demons. You'll take roughly 40 - 50 damage from the fire when you're that far away and killing the 2 shades will heal that. Then move on to the next pillar (though don't let the fire hit you in the big room or it's near instant death) Rinse and repeat.

Second time for me (hard), unluckily first time when he started throwing the fire out he did it on top of my entire party.. so yeah. Lost two of my party running around the room (I didn't hug pillars since I didn't think that'd keep you alive) because of bad pathing (which was the only annoying thing about this fight).

Other than that everytime my rogue hit him he got small stun so he kept trying to cast spells and failing constantly only to have both varric and hawke turn him into a broken bloody pulp.

Great fight though, easily the best in the dragon age series so far, since most fights are fairly cheap like the arishok, just having more hp and more damage.

I agree, along with the Malvernis fight.

I didn't felt the urge to type "killallhostiles" so it makes it better for me, then the archdemon fight. Besides, all this primal magic - forget the dragon, I want to learn this stuff!

On nightmare, it's just more of a grind (like everything on nigthmare). Also, FF is there, but it basically takes no effort to not auto-KO yourself. CCC'ing the mooks is not hard, and then you're just left with running around & trying to kill Corypheus. Which, again, I need to add is really aggravating because the whole fight is a gimmick.

ETA:

It's a different kind of suck from other DA:O/DA2 battles.

And do try not to get held up fighting the demons too long as the second pillar of flame grows ever closer to you.

Yep. Try to keep your party on the upper steps until the flame has passed and if you keep them as close to the edge as possible the flames will barely damage them.  As soon as the fire is past, immediately attack the nearest guardians with the entire party to wipe them out quickly, then use your SHFT A to order the entire party to follow the flames as they sweep onward.  First is flames only, then flames and rock barriers, then flames, rock barriers and lightning, then flames, rock barriers, lightening and ice bombardment.

If you keep running from statue to statue and clicking on them whenever the hand appears, eventually they will all be turned off and the boss will be unable to draw more power from them.  In between the different attacks, he will levitate to where your party is and will be vulnerable to most normal attacks. for a while.  Wear his health down enough and keep clicking the statues whenever you can and he is vulnerable.

All in all, a very strategic battle involving actual thinking for a change instead of just spamming the boss with your most powerful attacks.  As Varric says at one point:  "Think carefully, Hawke!  I don't want this story to end with "and then they all got splattered!"

The boss made me facepalm ''Behold my easily avoidable flames of DOOM'' and then starts burning everything but hawke.

I thought it was a really lame boss battle. The banter was good... but it was essentially learning a formula, as if I was playing Zelda instead of DA2. It didn't feel like a tactical battle, it felt more like running a rat maze.

You say it as if it was a bad thing. Puzzle bosses are fun.

I one shotted this on Normal with Isabella bugging and dieing to the first flame daisy cutter. Guess all my years of raiding and not stepping in the various boss AOE's paid off. Image IPB
Was a very fun boss fight.

It was a fun fight but It could have been more of a challenge, even on nightmare it was easy. The fires could have done more damage and spun faster, as could the lightning and icicles and maybe more rock paths the 3rd time he goes to the centre.

Once you figure out the best way to deal with the fire, it all becomes terribly easy.

Although, I would say a Ranged Party has the advantage here.

During my first run through with my canon mage (my avatar) I was lvl 27 and brought, Anders, Carver and Varric. First time through trying to kil the last boss took me about hour and a half to beat on normal. It took me awhile to figure out the strategy and to stop my companions from running through the fire, but after I figured it out it was alot of fun!

I ended up replaying legacy on that character afterwards because I missed the secret boss so reloaded and this time when facing the final boss I one shotted him on normal, It seemed 10 times easier the second time around, everything went really smoothly, I killed the demons from the statues one at a time and killed them before the fire came most of the time, but when I couldn't I placed all my companions and myself in the cornor of the stair area and was able to dodge the flames that way, which was really helpful for me during the last few stages of the fight.

Overall the last boss fight imo was really well done, It just takes a few tries, or for me hours to get the hang of it. :P

Edit: & favourtie part during the boss fight was hearing the banter from the other companions! I hope they continue having banter duing battles for future instalments and DLC's.

My favourite: Varric: "If he pulls a dragon out of his ass, I'm leaving!"

My only complaint is with the pathing of the companions. Even when selecting all and setting a point for them to run to.. they inevitably would get caught in the rocks.

Your nightmare mode must be different from my nightmare mode.  Touching the fire was instant death for any of my characters.

Ugh. I hated this fight. The only challenge is in getting the retarded pathing AI to not get stuck dithering in front of a wall. Sadly, because the engine is really stupid, that's actually difficult.

I ended up just saying screw it and consoled my way to immortality just to see the end of the story.

I expected much better.

Ok so the real question is why is everyone not killing the guardians as they spawn? Complaining that your party is running into the flames to chase the guardians as your Hawke goes to each pillar?

Well... isn't the obvious solution to kill the guardians before moving on to the next pillar? I don't get why people are missing something so obvious. Also not sure why people are trying to do each pillar with just their main character. Seems pretty obvious to me you select your whole group and have them move as one. Pretty easy to stay ahead of the flames then as they are fairly slow to progress.

I did this on my first try though I did lose a few party members once the rock barriers came up. I thought ahead though and brought Mythal Potions with me so it worked out in the end. Once I saw that the flames were going in a counterclockwise motion I just stayed ahead of the fire except when fighting the guardians at each pillar where they heal you as you fight them and the flames only do minimal damage.

Strategy is the same no matter the difficulty. You just get hurt a bit more for making a mistake the higher the difficulty goes. Select everyone and have them move as one unit to stay ahead of the flames. Activate each pillar in turn and kill the two corresponding guardians before moving to the next pillar. Depending on when you do the DLC you should have enough DPS to kill the guardians before the flames catch up to you, though this gets more difficult the second and third time through.

Tedious grind. Not fun.
