What a HORRIBLE final boss battle in the DLC!

Second attempt I managed to avoid the manic flamethrower, but the rest of the team did not. Basically, they went for the minions, got caught in wall of fire, miraclously survived, then ran to their glorious leader through the flames and died. At this point, after much facepalming, I realized that I didn't need no hetchmen to kick ass and solo'd magistrate turned darkspawn down. It was simply too much of a pain to micro the companions.
Indeed, since it wasn't even too difficult, I feel that BW should've made it a solo bossfight. It should've been easy enough to cut Hawke off the rest of them with a well placed forcefield in cutscene. Oh well, it was good enough anyway. Can't complain about it being a boring dps race or tank competition with all those twists.

Personally, I think that the final boss in Golems of Amgarrak (DA:O DLC) is worse.

This was the best fight I've ever encountered in the Dragon Age series. The mechanics were hard, though familiar since I've raided everything in WoW during the apex of their 'awesomeness'. The astronomical feeling that Corypheus gave me when going from one harsh scenario to the next made me squeal for joy while playing. I hope to beat this on Nightmare soon. Thanks for a colossal battle to end what was a monstrously beautiful piece of content, Bioware.

The secret boss at the arena was much harder.

One easy way to beat him is to just hit on him when you can, then instead of running around like an idiot to avoid his fire attack, put your party members on hold near one of the pillars you need to tag. Let the fire get close, hit the pillar and kill the demons. You'll take roughly 40 - 50 damage from the fire when you're that far away and killing the 2 shades will heal that. Then move on to the next pillar (though don't let the fire hit you in the big room or it's near instant death) Rinse and repeat.

Other than that everytime my rogue hit him he got small stun so he kept trying to cast spells and failing constantly only to have both varric and hawke turn him into a broken bloody pulp.
Great fight though, easily the best in the dragon age series so far, since most fights are fairly cheap like the arishok, just having more hp and more damage.

I agree, along with the Malvernis fight.Pzykozis wrote...

I loved the last boss fight. Don't know how it's on nightmere, but on hard it is just a perfect ballance of fun and chalange. All it takes is to figure out the weakneses of his spells and fight becomes as ease as pie.
On nightmare, it's just more of a grind (like everything on nigthmare). Also, FF is there, but it basically takes no effort to not auto-KO yourself. CCC'ing the mooks is not hard, and then you're just left with running around & trying to kill Corypheus. Which, again, I need to add is really aggravating because the whole fight is a gimmick.
ETA:
It's a different kind of suck from other DA:O/DA2 battles.

And do try not to get held up fighting the demons too long as the second pillar of flame grows ever closer to you.
Yep. Try to keep your party on the upper steps until the flame has passed and if you keep them as close to the edge as possible the flames will barely damage them. As soon as the fire is past, immediately attack the nearest guardians with the entire party to wipe them out quickly, then use your SHFT A to order the entire party to follow the flames as they sweep onward. First is flames only, then flames and rock barriers, then flames, rock barriers and lightning, then flames, rock barriers, lightening and ice bombardment.
If you keep running from statue to statue and clicking on them whenever the hand appears, eventually they will all be turned off and the boss will be unable to draw more power from them. In between the different attacks, he will levitate to where your party is and will be vulnerable to most normal attacks. for a while. Wear his health down enough and keep clicking the statues whenever you can and he is vulnerable.
All in all, a very strategic battle involving actual thinking for a change instead of just spamming the boss with your most powerful attacks. As Varric says at one point: "Think carefully, Hawke! I don't want this story to end with "and then they all got splattered!"

I thought it was a really lame boss battle. The banter was good... but it was essentially learning a formula, as if I was playing Zelda instead of DA2. It didn't feel like a tactical battle, it felt more like running a rat maze.

Although, I would say a Ranged Party has the advantage here.

I ended up replaying legacy on that character afterwards because I missed the secret boss so reloaded and this time when facing the final boss I one shotted him on normal, It seemed 10 times easier the second time around, everything went really smoothly, I killed the demons from the statues one at a time and killed them before the fire came most of the time, but when I couldn't I placed all my companions and myself in the cornor of the stair area and was able to dodge the flames that way, which was really helpful for me during the last few stages of the fight.
Overall the last boss fight imo was really well done, It just takes a few tries, or for me hours to get the hang of it.
Edit: & favourtie part during the boss fight was hearing the banter from the other companions! I hope they continue having banter duing battles for future instalments and DLC's.
My favourite: Varric: "If he pulls a dragon out of his ass, I'm leaving!"

It was a fun fight but It could have been more of a challenge, even on nightmare it was easy. The fires could have done more damage and spun faster, as could the lightning and icicles and maybe more rock paths the 3rd time he goes to the centre.
Your nightmare mode must be different from my nightmare mode. Touching the fire was instant death for any of my characters.

I ended up just saying screw it and consoled my way to immortality just to see the end of the story.
I expected much better.

Well... isn't the obvious solution to kill the guardians before moving on to the next pillar? I don't get why people are missing something so obvious. Also not sure why people are trying to do each pillar with just their main character. Seems pretty obvious to me you select your whole group and have them move as one. Pretty easy to stay ahead of the flames then as they are fairly slow to progress.
I did this on my first try though I did lose a few party members once the rock barriers came up. I thought ahead though and brought Mythal Potions with me so it worked out in the end. Once I saw that the flames were going in a counterclockwise motion I just stayed ahead of the fire except when fighting the guardians at each pillar where they heal you as you fight them and the flames only do minimal damage.
Strategy is the same no matter the difficulty. You just get hurt a bit more for making a mistake the higher the difficulty goes. Select everyone and have them move as one unit to stay ahead of the flames. Activate each pillar in turn and kill the two corresponding guardians before moving to the next pillar. Depending on when you do the DLC you should have enough DPS to kill the guardians before the flames catch up to you, though this gets more difficult the second and third time through.
