Got the game on steam and for a while it worked fine, other than a few random crashes. However at the moment when There is a status change on my characters the first row (3) only show about a forth of the icon (left fourth). While this doesnt make the game unplayable I cant do a quicklook at what is happening to my characters. The other thing is, its not just that the icon isnt displaying, it acts as if it is not there. If i mouse over the visable parts its still shows the tooltip (diseased, etc) but if i go to where the tooltip should be but isnt displaying it acts as if nothing is there. (I would send you a screenshot, but frankly i dont know where they are kept)
Buffs not displaying correctly

Screenshots will go to your MyDocs/NWN2 folder (not into any subfolder) on the regular version. I don't know if this is the same for the Steam version but you could try that.

it looks like an issue w/ partybar.xml - Do you have a custom GUI installed?
if not, maybe it's something to do with the widescreen ratio vis-a-vis the partybar ..

Everything on your screen seems stretched wide. I think you need to correct your resolution/aspect ratio. Here's a thread from just the other day that might be helpful: click here
I think the problem you and the previous poster had is that the game doesn't recognize newer graphics cards when it autodetects (the first time you run it), so it only offers default resolutions to choose from. Your best bet might be editing your .ini file. Once you get everything looking right (your spellcasting icons and character portraits should be square, for example) see if that doesn't clear up this other problem as well.
Also, as kevL said, a custom GUI could be causing the chopped icon space. There is a lot of good stuff on nwvault, but a lot of it is obsolete - incompatable with either new hardware or the latest patches. If you have a custom GUI, that would be the first thing to check (i.e remove it and see if the problem clears up).

p.s. Here's an old post: click here
The final resolution:
Edit: Doh, it looks like it may be a problem only at 1280x720. I just set it to 1920x1080 (which I didn't want to mess with before for performance reasons) and everything is perfect. I guess I'll have to decide between a crappy gui or a crappy framerate.
I think you may end up doing something similar.
