Well, if he's going to place such arbitrary restrictions on himself, I don't see why he should get any help at all

You don't have to agree with and pamper your love interests in order to complete a romance with them in DA2. There are both rivalry based romances, and friendship romances.
It'd hardly be the first time someone was romantically interested in someone whose actions they disapprove of. I don't see why there's so much drama over finding a character to romance. It's not a necessary part of the game, even though it does add a lot to the experience. The only real romance option for a straight templar in Origins would've been Leliana. Is it so bad that the only pro-chantry romances are males? It's not like they're excluding anyone from romancing anyone in DA2, since all of the companions are technically bisexual.

That's kind of funny how people think it's cute to try to coerce someone into playing as a gay character when clearly they don't want to. I'm sure those people wouldn't like it if everyone just said forget gay romances in games... either RP as a heterosexual or don't do a romance at all. But equality is only acceptable to some folks when it works in their favor, it seems.

Oh most are just teasing.
On that note I think either pining away for Aveline or rivaling Isabela is your only way to go. Unless you have an awesome imagination and want to pretend Fenris is female. Never get to see him nekkid anyways

That's not really comparable. What we're saying is that if you're going to restrict yourself by insisting on playing a male and refusing to romance the perfect Templar match, who happens to be a male, guess what - you don't get as many options. Deal with it.
I'm sorry, what are you talking about "equality"? And you're saying "coercing someone into playing a gay character" like it's a big deal. Guess what, newsflash - it's not. It's a video game, and the romance isn't even a big part of the game. If you are trying to stay in character and want a romance, look accordingly, DA2's romances are varietied and it's fine if you don't want to do same sex romance, but it's your problem then when your options are limited.
I don't recall anyone ever saying anything even remotely related to "let's take heterosexual romances out of the game." If someone said they were playing a female Warden with a preference for girls, but really wanted an angsty mage healer lover, guess what I would say? DATE ANDERS. What I object to is the OP's insinuation that there is NO love interest for a Templar character, when there is: Fenris. If he has an issue with playing a same sex romance, too bad. He also has the choice to play a female Templar type character and romance Fenris that way. The game gives you a relatively lot of freedom with romance, and you can either take the options presented or leave them. You don't need to romance anyone to beat the game, after all.

Isabella is I think the best choice because yes while she is s "slaten" she after you romance her stays faithful, she wont "run away"as long as you don't "give her a reason to"
Also as long as you don't mid getting a rash... It's canon!

Exactly, just because your templar may follow the templars laws to the tee doesn't mean he cannot romance Isabela. Not all templars are very strict pawns for the chantry, they have feelings, emotions, they can be funny and kind, unless you RP your character exactly like the traditional no slack templar. I just do not see why you cannot see your templar romancing Isabela.
If you stopped thinking of your Hawke as a templar first and a person second and just focused on your characters personality I think it would be possible to romance Isabela or any of the romance options.
