He's not a bad character per say but when there's so many other more interesting and likable characters than him then it becomes painful to bring him along. I always ditch him for Zaeed the first chance I get.

Yeah. I think Jacob only really comes truly useful when you unlock his barrier, because he doesn't really seem to survive enough to get up close in the first place.

Jacob unlocks his full potential when you give him the Phalanx heavy pistol, fully upgrade his passive powers so that he's a Cerberus Specialist with heaps more weapons damage, and give him Inferno Ammo. After that, he becomes one of the best husk killers in the game, a great choice for the Derelict Reaper, or the Long Walk on the Collector Base.

ME1 - Ash, she died on Vermire but I still consider her my Sheps good friend, and in many ways a reason for fighting. After she died Garrus I guess, but he went in to LI category in ME2 so I'm not sure it counts.
ME2 - amusingly Jakob :D Once you get past the awkward attempts to flirt he is actually makes for a good friend. :D The alternatively - Kasumi, I like how she works with Garrus, and I drag him along with me nearly everywhere.

To quote my little sister: "If I had a friend like Kasumi, I'd be the coolest kid in school."

Garrus is, by far, my Shepard's closest friend but he's honestly been really close to all the male teammates in the games so far. That sense of camaraderie is one of my favorite aspects of Mass Effect as a series.

For my renegade FemShep that romanced Liara:

ME1: Garrus
ME2: Garrus, Miranda and Morinth.

This is based mostly on how useful they are, but it also fits because they are more renegade characters and therefore suit my Shep's personality too.

Joker! He's the man, I would imagine on the ship during transit my Shepard would hang out with him messing around and causing havoc...inbetween Liara sessions Image IPB

Also, how good would it have been in ME2 ... When you meet Joker for the first time it replicates the "Dillon, you son of a b....!" scene from Predator. With Shepard and Joker shaking hands! For those who haven't seen it, this is it . Joker, you son of a b....!

ME1 - Kaiden, garrus being a close second. With a vangaurd on hardcore, i never had trouble with either of them plus liara.

ME2 - Garrus. Also worked well with a vanguard, plus their personalities matched well/views on dealing with certain threats. Thane was more like a good business partner/reliable friend, and Grunt was more like a little bro. I like Jacob's line about gettin loud, and spillin drinks on the citadel though.

In ME1, a tie between Garrus and Wrex.
In ME2, it was originally Garrus, but the charm wore off and now it's Mordin.

I need to get ME1.

For ME2, in order:

I like Wrex as a pal - he is taking the Krogan in the right direction.  I actually feel comfortable with him.  Its a shame he is stuck on Tuchanka - but he wants to save the Krogan and has the wisdom to do it.

Mordin is quite intelligent - and the modified genophage takes a heavy toll on his soul - he is quite 'human'.

Thane is a beast and a killing machine who has lost so much - and almost lost his son too.

Joker is my bro - always will be.  'nuff said.

Garrus almost loses himself in revenge, or as renegade takes that revenge and fixes the betrayal.  He stands on the side of the right and defends the weak - admirable in my opinion. - tie that in with the loss of his team and you see his dedication - he was going to die up there.

Legion is an 'it', but I consider it male.  I would consider Legion to be a steadfast friend and ally - in a way he reminds me of Mr. Spock.  I am going to do a runthrough where I get him as early as possible and see what fun he adds to as many missions as I can.

Grunt is young but very strong.  You see how Wrex treats him - and you also see that Grunt is alone except for Shepard and the Normandy.  Were it not for Shepards involvement he would be considered and outcast because he had no Krantt.  The fact that he consideres Shepard to be his batlemaster is an honor.

Jacob is a trooper, and his dad is a D-bag.  Jacob does what is right and sticks by his guns.   His dad taught him well enough I suppose, but he needs to find himself.

Zaeed is a merc, but a damn good one.  He has had a hard life and been down the road of hard knocks.  Perhaps if he had more interaction time he would be a more fun squadmate.  His stories and his love of 'Jessie' are great.
