In a short video, Hudson mentions the buying and selling of mods while also being able to pick up the guns and integrate them into the game economy.

Can this be a hint that the inventory might be back? I mean I'm having difficulty in picturing how you sell and buy dozens of mods when you lack something similar to an inventory screen.

Also, Casey Hudson said that we'll be able to pick up guns from fallen enemies and integrate them into the game economy?  Does this mean we'll be able to sell multiple guns that we find and collect?

There's been some previews from several game sites in regards to the game economy concerning the mods and weapon collecting (according to Phaedon's post anyways) but nothing had really been confirmed by devs until now.

Thoughts? :wizard:

It was also said that mods will be accessible from the benches, so I think we're good on that front.

Bump.

One would think that some people would be interested in the possible return of the inventory. ;)

Edit: Sorry if it seems like I'm necroing this but I am curious by Hudson's statement and was wondering if I misunderstood.

The reason I found this interesting was because how I assumed the mods would have worked like the upgrades in ME2 except you can swap in-between. The idea of selling and buying mods sure seems to imply a key RPG element is returning to ME.

It wouldn't really make sense to be able to sell guns and loot...it broke ME1's economy, and besides...they have a minifacturing system in the armory on the SR2. They could just keep making more guns on top of the ones they find and be even more rich.

You should be able to buy weapons and armor, and sell special items.

I'm fine with it.

I don't want shep returning to the massive inventory stored somewhere on his person, but I'd like to see a general inventory where it's explained that the arsenal is kept on ship and accessible for trade, etc. via omni-tool interface.

Or back to me1 i guess is fine, too. I just don't want the rigid system of ME2. While I had no problem with it, I'm for change if allowed the option.

This. The ME1 inventory sucked.

Aye but it seems that the ME team is already taking steps to allow not just BUYING but also SELLING items which was NOT in ME2.

Picking up guns from fallen enemies? If that isn's the return of loot, I don't what is.

Argue all you want about how the ME's inventory sucked but it seems like the inventory screen is coming back one way or another as indicated by Hudson's comments.

Personally, I think this is proving that the ME team is not just all talk about combat and big explosions. They've been listening to the complaints about lack of RPG elements.

This probably means schematics, for which you do not need sophisticated inventory.  Given desktop fabrication, It makes no sense in the ME universe to sell anything other than a schematic or a raw material (or a specially crafted item that cannot be created by desktop fabrication).

My prediction is this: We can pick up physical weapons from bodies in mission, but we do not carry them out of the gravity well.  Instead we upload them to the Normandy and fabricate them there for later missions.

The thing about picking up weapons from enemies is that I have a feeling that you just SWITCH weapons. You don't add it to an magical typical RPG style inventory.

Well, as long as it's implemented properly, perhaps something akin to what Walker White is talking about, then that sounds fine to me. I've always felt that non AD&D inventories worked better and felt less clunky if there was some kind of crafting involved.

If I have to sell 10x [Cerberus Stock AR] after every mission, then it really isn't much of an improvement at all.

This is most likely.

For me, and surely a lot of other players, collecting and selling stuff I don't need is a really fun aspect. I'm sure buying & selling will be fast & easy (unlike the way ME1 handled it), so the return of such a system is great news to me.

Yes.

Very excited.

Should never have been removed in the first place - but I'll take what I can get. They have seen the light - and it is +3 line of sight on our shotguns. And the world is as it should be. *contented sigh*

I'd love to see the return of an inventory, and getting loot, it defines a RPG, I really hope it happens, but it probably won't be

I want my damn inventory back. ME1's with more work done on it would've been nice(to remove its negatives like tons of extra items and such).

I wouldn't mind a return of a proper inventory.

There was a weapon fabricator system on the SR2. It hasn't been confirmed that is still the case. That type of borderline illegal system may have been fine on a Cerb ship, but the Alliance might frown on it to say the least.

I honestly have mixed feelings about the return of the Mary Poppins inventory. ._.

The lack of it simplified things like weapons and that for me (Especially since I suck at shooters) but at the same time, I miss ammo powers not being... powers.

The Collectors edition of Mass Effect 3 has a robot dog....so maybe you get to store stuff in it like the walking treasure chest from the DiscWorld games.

If so, i'm VERY happy.

Without wanting to turn this thread into a discussion about what constitutes an RPG I don't see the collecting, buying and selling loot as an expression of choice, at least not in a way that matters in the context of the game. I'm aware how some people rued the decision to swap out the loot and inventory required to manage it for schematics and raw materials but I liked how this separated the tailoring of your equipment from the gameplay and I hope 3 continues this theme.

Every traveller needs a psychotic Luggage which decimates your foes, does your laundry, and leaves it smelling faintly of lavender.

On topic: It could be something as simple as being the same as the ME2 system, but able to sell the items you no longer need or use. Such as selling the Avenger once you get your hands on the Vindicator, so noone equips it by accident.

I wouldn't mind an inventory so long as it's done well, and isn't designed by a small team of monkeys as ME1's seems to have been. It doesn't even have a freaking back button! I dunno if it was improved in the PC version but on 360 it was horrible to navigate. Little odd since both KotOR and DA:O's inventories work just fine.
