Hello. I'm running the toolset on a PC with the following specs: I7-920, 6 GB ram, 2 GTX 295 in quad-sli. OS is Win7 x64, nvidia drivers are 275.33. I have .net 3.5 and DX9 installed. The user runs the toolset with admin rights.
I'm having a peculiar problem with the toolset: the render window (the window that displays the current area) stops updating as soon as I select a blueprint from the list on the right side. That means the camera movement, props movement, selection, deletion, texturing, and animations will not be displayed (they will still occour however). Rendering only happens when the cursor enters or leaves the rendering window. If I select the blueprint, close the area and open it again, then the window will render as normal until I pick a new blueprint.
SLI is not a factor, since I tried running the toolset with SLI disabled. I also tried various compatibility modes.
Of course this makes the toolset unusable, since I can't see the scene being updated while I try to position blueprint instances.
I'd like some help to fix this.

I actually get a similar thing. So long as I'm trying to place something with a model (placeable, creature, tile etc) the render window slows right down. The wierd thing is that it doesn't actually happen consistantly - sometimes it works just fine.

Win 7 64-bit, 4GB RAM, unremarkable processor.

If this is a question of updating as opposed to displaying at all, I experience the same thing. Creatures stop doing their idle animations, any animated placeables (fires, etc.) don't update, etc. I thought it was normal behavior and can't say I find it particularly inconvenient. In fact, I'd like to have an option to switch all animations off in the toolset to save system resources, just like I'll sometimes hide trees while I'm working on something else.

The issue I have with it is that if you're trying to place something, it won't show it where you're trying to place it until you move the mouse off the screen... which changes its location. I often have to move my mouse very rapidly away to see tiles in their correct orientation and position and things.

Yes, exactly. The toolset does recieve input, it just fails to show what you're doing. For example, you want to paint a placeable. You pick the blueprint, and the window stops updating the render. You move the cursor around, ready to paint the placeable, but you don't see it moving on screen. You don't even see the camera movements, as long as you don't enter/exit the render window.
So is this actually a known problem, or something?

Ah, that is indeed different. I vaguely recall that happening to me at one point, but I'm not sure. I don't think it's likely to be a hardware performance issue, because I have less RAM than The Fred (2 GB) and a pretty low-end graphics card.

Go figure, it apparently fixed itself. I did NOTHING at all. I hope it stays this way now.

Sometimes when I am placing something, it shows up fine but when I let go of the placeable it disappears - its there but invisible. If I close the area or even the toolset it seems to fix it. I thought it was because I was using custom tilesets, but apparently not.

I don't think it can be a performance issue as per say; Raelius' specs sound great (6GB RAM, for example) and yet he and I have had the issue but MasterChanger hasn't. Mine works fine sometimes, but other times is a damn pain.

I have exactly the same problem. How did you 'fix' it Raelius? Just closing and opening the toolset a couple of times?

I can't really help you, I touched nothing and yet it started working.

It sounds like either your pixies aren't compressing properly, or your half-elves have rounding errors (link).

The toolset moves in mysterious ways...

The damn problem is back after a couple of days of smooth behaviour. :\\

Perhaps I can help,

I have the same problem as you lot, but I've discovered that it is most likely the interface clutter in the UI that is causing the lag. I'm not sure if it works for you, but I've pinned my blueprint window(click on the pin icon, I think), and the slowdown didnt occur when I drag my models to the render screen.

Hope this helps.

!

It makes no f* sense but it's how it is. It's the UI, as Pyroknightier says.
