Anyone else think Dragon Age 2's art style is too bland?

I guess they took the "WoW" route. Millions play it, so they must like the childish/cartoonish approach.

That said, I liked the DA:O style - and would suit any future games far better

That is a complete ridiculous assertion, as I play WoW to raid with my guild. I would think I'd notice if DA2 had suddenly taken the WoW route. *snort* In no way, shape or form does DA2 artwork resemble Blizzard's artwork - looking at the human anatomy alone, it's clear that DA2 hews to the more realistic side of things in terms of both appearance and proportions.

If you look at Blizzard's games, they have a rather distinctive style. For example, they have a habit of portraying males as very bulky/stocky and rather oversized (with gigantic hands). You can see this even in the more the realistically depicted characters in SC2 cutscenes (who are beefy beyond belief if you ask me), etc. Maybe you should actually know what you're talking about so as to avoid future failed comparisons and analogies. The more exotic-looking, non-realistic weapons in DA2 hardly constitute a "childish/cartoonish approach" when everything else is quite realistic as far as I can tell. There are certainly plenty of bland-looking weapons about and so forth.

EDIT: And if someone tries to imply that the elf redesign looks like night-elves...no. Take a closer look at them (I don't particularly  like the new DA2 elves, but I don't consider them cartoonish...they're just not all that attractive on the whole).

Thank you -  I was getting  tired of that assinign comparison  and as far the .  "ZOMG  the sword is too big its so unrealistic" the two handed swords in the game are based of the Zweihänder and odachi style two-handed swords which were between 5 - 6 ft long.   Now them being used  in the manner they  is not realistic but if i wanted to play realistic medevil combat sim...I would find one to play.

Please tell me you're not comparing Hayder's Razor to any realistic historic sword.

On the contrary I thought DAO's was kinda bland. Actually maybe bland isn't the word... dull? Much more detailed than DA2's though and I hope they can find a happy median.

In sense that  it is a two - handed sword that is  5-6 feet long yes     It is a weapon loosely based  on that class of  weapon.  The  actually look of Haydens Razor ...no  of course it does not  look a Zweihänder.

Just like Pistol in the mass effect does not like look a   9mm handgun... but it is based   on  the handgun class of weapon.

A Zweihänder is a two handed sword used in  Germany
Haydens Razor is a Two Handed sword from the game DA 2

both are two-handed swords -   One is real  the other is not.

Everyone looks the same in the DA2 art style.

The same could easily be said of the NPCs in Origins.

I don't care about art style. The whole swords 'n' magic thing just doesn't appeal to me at all (which is one reason why I was surprised that I enjoyed Origins) so BioWare can play with the art as much as they want, but it just won't generate the same kind of interest in me that I get from, well, Mass Effect.

I don't know about bland, but most everything in DA2 seems... unusually clean. The environments felt gritty and the monsters looked dirty and smelly in DAO, not so much in DA2... even Lowtown and Darktown felt like they'd just been recently vacuumed and the DA2 darkspawn look as if they've just been scrubbed clean.

Honestly, I prefered DA2's artstyle. It was Origin's that was too bland. The only downside about DA2 were a couple really hideous character models (Merrill in bed, Alistair, Zevran.)

Not to mention ALL the elves.

Its just a good example of taking a meaningless critisism (elves just look like pretty humans) and turning it into a horrible design choice (elves that look like big eyed monsters).

Even Two Worlds 2 had decent graphics and art style. Not art style to cover bad graphics!
