I will say that I do like elves being taller in general, but since they weren't previously I'd still rather it hadn't changed. The rest of the changes, though, I just don't like at all and wouldn't've even if they'd always been like that.
They don't look like a seperate species to me still, and they won't unless it gets more dramatic. They've now, to me, acquired something of a rubber forehead alien aspect. They don't look like typical humans, but they don't look like a believable seperate species, and they look like there were just some random changes made to make them look less human. It doesn't strike me as anything other than annoying and artificial, and doesn't have the same excuse as aliens in a TV show do, either (it's really not all that much harder to make a character in a game look completely alien than it is to make them look human).
It would clearly have been jarring if they did look completely different, and I'm not saying that they should have ... but the fact that they look noticably different now is jarring to me also. Basically, the noses and all to me is like hanging a sign around the neck of a lightly made-up human saying 'not a human, very different species' in bold lettering but it was unnecessary because pointed ears are already accepted as that sign for elves.
The larger ears I can tolerate, although I suspect that's mostly because I tend not to notice ears at all. The strange necks and being even more thin I don't like, but it's the noses that I really dislike.
On the subject of making them look more like shrieks... I could maybe buy that, except for two things. One, why not change the shrieks instead (since you don't see them nearly as often). Two, considering that all other Darkspawn have changed in DA II, I rather expect that when we see a shriek they also will have.

Seriously. I'm kind of distraught that there are fans out there who don't like the elf design, because it's awesome. But I'm convinced most of those people are just anti DA2 fans who decided they hate change and are complaining about everything just because. I'm going to continue to mod the DAO elf to adhere to the DA2 style, and laugh at the haters.
...But, seriously, I just can't get over how people can possibly think Merrill or Fenris are ugly. Does not compute!
And I'm puzzled that there are fans out there who like the new elf design, because to me there is really not anything good about it. It's all preference. I wouldn't say I'm anti DA II exactly - I dislike a lot of the changes, but overall I enjoyed the game. I simply dislike the new elf design.
Merrill and Fenris look all right as is, but I think they would look much better in the old style. They do, however, look (to me) noticably different and less extreme than every other elf you see, so I'm not sure how much of an argument that is.
The thing that really gets to me about the new elves, even beyond the various reasons that I just dislike the way they look, is that they changed them on the second game. I have just as much of a problem with the Darkspawn. Not the dwarves, because honestly as far as I can tell they look about the same, and I would really rather if the Qunari hadn't changed (but it doesn't bother me as much, because the PC of the previous game couldn't be a Qunari). If the elves had always been this way, I would... well, I wouldn't've played an elf in the first game and I still wouldn't be fond of them, but I would have no problem with it.
So yes, to an extent I dislike change - I dislike change when it's a fairly major (to my mind, at least) change happening in the second game of a series. Particularly when it appears to be change for the sake of change. I prefer consistency in things such as species design in a series.
