Well, if you dont like spoilers dont watch it.

I got a hint from  http://social.bioware.com/2218552/ and made a movie of this "secret" boss.

He is really hard so I switched back to casual difficulty, since I didnt want to make an one hour movie

All you have to do, is to run back two maps after looting the "Warm Orb" plot item from a chest.

He even drops some nifty loot.

Spoilers...

I found this guy by accident trying to run back to Kirkwall to sell. The first time I had no idea what was going on and wiped before he turned into a dragon. The second time I adjusted my positioning and destroyed him. Didn't take long, even on Nightmare. It was an intense fight, but fun. Much less annoying than the end boss.

I found the first phase of the battle to be the most difficult one, what with all those skeletons. The rest was pretty easy with Carver as a tank.

@filetemo
The codex entires regarding the boss are scattered on the same map. They don't explain its exact origin though. Just why and how it was trapped.

Aha! The warm orb. I wondered about that, but never figured out what it was for. Should have put the clues together, someone earlier in the DLC mentions drumming if I remember correctly.

Hat's off to you, ipgd.

Those archers are evil, evil, evil. Fun fight, though.

In nightmare you get 5 times as many archers. Plus once he turns into a dragon you can use the trap and kill him off fairly easily by triggering the trap about 5 times.

does he stay at that spot or do I have to tank him and risk that my tank dies too?

lol it moves around a fair amount as a dragon. It even flew up to the top.
I'll record my mage run later on; It has serious amounts of health but isn't that hard if you have a ranged party.

The skeleton archers are fairly easy to deal with if you start your companions up on one of the sides and run up there right from the start. This means that the archers of the opposite side don't shoot at you.

Anyway, I think the ghostly skeletons have a weakness to spirit/electricity so dual haste allows you to just decimate the skeletons on your side then move along the wall to finish off the archers on the other side. (For that part letting the dog run across to pick up threat helps).

The Arcane Horror form is a bit of a pain- I can't remember if there were any weaknesses/immunities to make it faster, but basically just moving down to the middle and attacking it when it warps from side to side should eventually do the trick (the melee skeletons are a bit annoying though).

Once it's a dragon it becomes a lot easier as you can unload cold spells/staves into it. Things go a little bit faster from then. My dog managed to tank it the whole time for this section. Such a machine haha

It did fly up at 1 stage IIRC but mostly just stayed in the trap area.

Just beat Legacy. Had no idea there was a secret boss. I'm pretty sure I picked up the orb but I would've never guessed to backtrack all the way back to the sands.

This guy needs a codex entry. His fight was way better than pacman Corypheus.

There are three clickable markers, two in the "arena" area and one along the path going to the carta hideout, prior to getting the orb and fighting him. These markers provide short descriptions of what or who Malvernis is.

Amgeforn the Lonely Vigil
One watcher each generation will be chosen from the Warrior Caste. He will stand guard until his death.

Only the constant vigilance of the Stone's Children can keep the foulness of Malvernis at bay. The burden of living in exile beneath the sun is terrible, but this sacrifice, this amgeforn, will ensure the sanctity of the Stone forever.

Valos atredum.

—By decree of Paragon Ilona

Amgeforn the Wasteyard
You who must serve beneath the empty sky, you stand between this Poison and the Stone. The Ancestors will remember when all others have forgotten your name. Remember your oath: it must endure even beyond death itself. Be vigilant.

If the Pestilent One awakens, you will know it by these signs: The air will fill with the scent of putrefaction. You will hear a sound like the cadence of drums. Malvernis the Defiler will try to weaken your will and compel you to bear the orb out of Amgeforn, but you must hold fast.

This is the sacred duty that cannot be forsworn lest the Stone fall to poison and death.

Codex entry: Amgeforn the Foul
We called it Malvernis. The Pestilent One. It devoured thaigs, turning our fairest work into a noxious waste. It consumed living warriors, turning their bodies to slime, and when its hunger was not abated, it consumed the bones of our ancestors.

Foulness came from its touch, poison and filth and desecration. It threatened the Stone itself. The Shapers bound it. Chained in lyrium stained with the blood of a hundred warriors. But within the orb, it hungered, it waited.

We carried it here to the wasteland of the surface, where it can threaten nothing of value. The Stone will live. The Stone must live. We have sworn to defend it from the Foul One at any price.
