So yeah, Hawke, Anders, and Bethany got wasted in the first couple of minutes while I was figuring out what was going on. Aveline managed to stay alive so I potted, and figured I'd last as long as possible to learn the mechanics. 45 minutes later (same fight) archmage is dead with Aveline standing over him. Felt good. For the record, she is 100% tank spec. The ONLY DPS abilities I used were Might and Shield Bash.
Reminds me of DA:O when Alistair was my only surviving party member at the beginning of phase 3 of the Archdemon fight. Took almost an hour but down he went, the archdemon that is.

Funny. Carver is the one that won it for me. My mage went down, followed closely by Fenris. Varric surprisingly lasted awhile, but Carver really saved it. Completed half the boss fight by himself. It was intense!

My first playthrough of this, Hawke was the sole survivor, everyone else (Aveline, Isabela, Merrill), of course, bringing Isabela is just asking to fail, Aveline survived for a while since her health was so high, she was able to eat part of Corypheus' fire attack.
Hawke and Dog saved the day for me that playthrough.

I made a point to stock up on Mytha's favor grenades before doing the DLC. So when my party got roasted due to poor path finding, I was still able to revive them during the actual fights.

In the 4 playthroughs I have done of Legacy, I noticed that the AI can keep up with Hawke pretty well inside that rock mazeas long as you do not get too far ahead or they will try to cut corners, only to get stuck on the wall and the maze, which usually involves their death.

My party of MageHawke, Varric, Carver, and Anders did well for the first half of the battle.
Then everyone except for Carver died.
Carver then took down Corypheus on his own.

With my mage Hawke, noone died, except for Fenris. Spirit Healer's Healing Aura breaks Corypheus. And my party was pure melee. I even had my guys stand at the edge of the purple aura lightning attack with Hawke behind and not one party member died.
Only Fenris went down because he was stupid and ran to close to the fire trail trying to get one of the shade enemies. I revived him right as soon as I could do it safely.

I've ran thru it twice now. First a warrior, got smokes quick. But, I figured out the key part to the battle. Second time, blood mage flawless victory......
Magic resistance and fire warding a must!!!!!!

I kept everyone alive for most of the fight. Carver went down toward the end, leaving my mage, Varric, and Anders, who finished the fight. Really, Carver deserves to get kicked in the ass every now and again, so I was okay with it.

It's not that hard to keep everyone alive for the whole fight, provided you're quick with avoiding the fire (fire resistance can make that a moot point) and preferably have some rock armor potions in stock (that really made the difference for Izzy).
