Hello, I've been trying to play Dragon Age: Origins for hours now but it continues to crash upon startup right after the splash screen. I've downloaded a program called "Who Crashed" which has helped me log the problem, but I have no clue what to make of it and or fix it. It says.

As further notice, up trying it multiple times, I've noticed that a couple of them had different errors but that same result even though I tried to start the game in the exact same manner which was really wierd. The other 2 different errors only happened once but they are:

Since you didn't provide all of the information, you made it much more difficult to attempt a diagnosis. Regfer to the sticky "Read first" and add the missing information.

Okay I'll add the missing info below,

-Original Edition
-Format is EA Digital Download
-Driver Version: 275.33
-My Sound adapter is Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
-Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition
-No Third Party Mods installed

Any other information I have already provided in my previous posts. Thank you for the response and I hope this helps you solve my little problem.

I'll try to list what I've read and found around the internet.

1) Some times multiple cores can be the problem. (I'm sure the recommended specs mentions onlkly 2 or 4 cores as recommended) Have you tried disabling one or more cores?
2) Sometimes the sound drivers e.g. the RealTek card can be the problem. Have you tried disabling sound entirely?
3) Sometimes the graphics card and its driver can be the problem? Have you downloaded the newest drivers for your card?
Sorry to be asking your this, if you already have done all of this. It is just to exclude that it is one of the above -ahem- things.

4) I think I remember seeing somewhere that origins and windows 7 64 bit needs some work, but I can't remember what it is right now. I do remember, though, that it is a good idea to right-click on the .exe file and choose run ad admin. And to not place the game in the programs folder, but in the games folder or in the documents folder.

5) Again, sorry to tell you this, if you already have done so. From my experience, these questions need to be asked. This way we get a better understanding of the problem and will indeed be able to help you better.

I haven't tried any of those and will right now. Will post results in a little bit.

-Quick question, how would I update/download the newest drivers for my computer? Just in case that is the problem.
-Also, how do i disable the one or more of my cores? Do I do this in dragon age origins itself or on my control panel? Because I cant even get to main menu of dragon age origins so I have no chance to changing it there.

I've found out after numerous testing that the problem seems to be my sound. Whenever I have Sound disabled, it would run fine. Is there anyway for me to fix my sound drivers or something so it will work?

You didn't list your graphics card, but right off the bat I can tell you that your Nvidia driver is likely to cause problems whether or not it is the cause of this problem. The 260.71 beta drivers play well with DAO and DA2. The 275.33 driver does not. The drivers are available at the Nvidia web site (I believe directions for that are linked in the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top of the forum) Edit: nvm, found it up higher, but you will still probably want to consider rolling back the drivers.

The solutions round-up thread pinned to the top of this forum also has information on how to assign affinity to specific cores of your processor (I'd suggest 1 or 2).

Finally, make sure you are running on an administrator account and that the program has permission to connect to the internet. Again, more information can be found in the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top of the forum.

Its the sound. Whenever I disabled sound it works fine. Anyway I can fix that? I'm going to really hate myself if I cant play this game because my sound card refuses too.

Go to the Reltek website and download their drivers.  The ones that Win 7 installs by default are garbage.  You will probably also want to assign the core affinity to one or two cores.  The game wasn't designed to handle more than that and is known to crash at random intervals on some multi-core systems.

See the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top of the forum. There is a link to directions there. (It's also the best "first stop" place for problems as Raen has linked solutions to the vast majority of common problems there.)

In another thread I've seen around these forums, one of the forumites actually says that DA: Origins weren't really build to take advantage of more than 2 cores. As for updating the sounddrivers, please google realtek sound drivers download and download and install the drivers just like any other programs.

I updated my sound drivers and NVIDIA drivers and also set my core affinity to 2 cores instead of the like 8 I had. It still crashed on me for the same reason. I'm starting to lose hope and think maybe I should just uninstall the game and find a different game to play.

Are you running on an administrator account, have you made certain that the correct ports are open in your firewall, and have you checked that you have the older version of C++ installed? (again, all of these things are linked in the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top. That should always be the first place you check.)

Also, I believe you said that disabling sound fixed the problem. Try clicking the box for "force stereo sound" in the options menu.

I know it does. It works. Don't ask me why, I have no clue, but dozens of people with the same issue have tried it and it works.
