There are several things.

The MotB Makeover SoZ Edition (link in sig below) among other things changes the spirit eater functions so that points are not consumed while standing idly.

The Spirit Meter Autopause is the code from the MotB Makeover that prevents points from being consumed while standing idly, so that it can be installed independently of the Makeover.

In my Silverwand Sundries there is an item called the Spirit Eater Recharger you can download that resets the spirit eater meter to 100 whenever you use it.

The Spirit Eater Cheat description says that it changes the satiate feat to refill the spirit eater meter. I haven't used this myself.

And there is the Spirit Eater Tweak that reduces the rate of spirit eater point consumption. I haven't used this myself either.

There are also several posts you can find with Google that explain how to manage the spirit eater feature.

Regards

This is from GameBanshee:

If you really hate dealing with spirit energy, you can use console commands to turn it off. Just enter the following lines into the console:

debugmode 1
rs ka_se_terminate
debugmode 0

If you later decide that you'd like it back on, you can type

debugmode 1
rs ka_se_init
debugmode 0

The latter command will also reset your spirit meter to its original setting (with low craving and 100 energy), and so you can use it as an alternative to the Satiate feat.

Doing this will get rid of any Spirit Feats you have;  you would have to give them back with the console.  I recommend against this.  If you're really bugged by it, just give yourself SE points from time to time.

Doesn't turning off the spirit eating or meddling with it, sort of goes against the nature of the game? As I recall, spirit eating is a key feature of the game? You are, of course free to play as a you like, but to me the sprit eating idea is one of the best thing in Mask of the Betrayer,

i Agree (dirty cheaters ..)

Spirit Energy consumption is a major impetus in MotB. So I use the Spirit Energy Tweak that KS mentioned. But, while it showed the way w/ a half or a third rates, i felt that was way too much and reset mine to four-fifths. At that rate it was still a major factor, but at least i didn't run around thinking

OMG IM GONNA DIE!!11!

every time I glanced at the meterbar. There is an exploit one can use near Mulsantir, by zoning the Suppression feat can be replenished with little loss to SE, then say Hi to some friendly Telthors in the field

... yes, major plot device, that.  Posted Image

The online poll that I did when developing the MotB Makeover indicated that the Spirit Eater function was the number one complaint about the game. Integral or not, players for most part do not like it.

The spirit eater 'ticking clock' is a central part of MotB though. I agree with Aries1001 and kevL - turning it off is just cheating.

It's much easier playing an evil character though. You simply eat everything and everyone who gets in your way. Plus you get One of Many (quite possibly the coolest companion ever), and the evil game ending was much more interesting. It was good to see an official campaign with a decent evil story line for once.

I'm not sure what "just cheating" means. Seems derogatory. Since almost everything posted, answered, and recommended allows playing the game differently than it is out of the box, then everything is "just cheating". So there are cheats that are liked by some and not others. You just don't like this particular one. I'm sure there are other cheats you like just fine.

That said, just to clarify that the MotB Makeover does not remove the curse or its exploits (more "just cheating"). Instead I modified it so that points were not lost when standing idly. This prevented the problem people reported that they would be leveling up or working with inventory and when finished found they were nearly dead. The Spirit Eater Recharger I wrote is entirely optional.

You're accusing me of cheating! Why, if I was a dwarf I'd be slapping you in the face with a gauntlet right about now.

Tomorrow. Dawn. Throwing axes at 20 paces. I *demand* satisfaction!

If you were a dwarf you couldn't reach my face with a gauntlet so you'd be slapping something else entirely. ;)

Anyway, to paraphrase the Matrix... "there is no cheating".  The only exception I would make to this is that you can cheat other players when playing in a multi-player context - which would be a bad thing. "Cheating yourself" out of a good time by modding the game for your own personal satisfaction is "cheating" only in phrase, not in reality.

I'm lousy with throwing axes.  I used to be pretty good at throwing knives though. And sai.

I'm a gonna carve a likeness of yo face into the peanut butter of a sandwich, how you like me now eh? :P

Have to admit I downloaded all the spirit eater mods but haven't installed any. I haven't had any probs with the curse yet (24L in MotB now), I manage to keep myself going fine with Suppress, worst case scenario is having to waste a summon creature VIII to refill on but I"ve never dropped below 80 yet.
I take it this gets much worse/more annoying as you progress. Never been all the way through MotB, ought to be interesting.

In my case I wasn't really "playing" MotB. I was developing the MotB Makeover and was trying to proceed through MotB as efficiently as possible while testing. The Spirit Eater curse was just an obstacle slowing down my testing which is why I developed the recharger. There used to be several write-ups by individuals online about how to best manage the spirit eater curse. A few of them may even have survived the loss of the old forums.

Yeah I kind of get that. As a PC playthrough I found the Spirit Eater curse/ability as standard worked fine as an alignment mediator without undue disadvantage, although it did keep the sense of a ticking clock throughout the game, which drives the player and I would probably find that annoying over multiple playthroughs.

Interesting first time around, I'd say it would become annoying and restrictive after that.

So the terminate-cheat actully terminate the whole thing? You dont need to think about anymore?

I was afraid it just deletet the visual meter, not the actully consumtion :P

The 2012-11-07 Patch to the MotB Makeover SoZ Edition also added in the ability to consume Spirit Essences as an additional way to regain Spirit Eater points.
