Also $5.00 an hour? Really? Id rather hire a drunken clown to entertain me for 2 hours at $5.00 an hour than mindless hack and slash bland combat. Overpriced DLC is OVERPRICED!

Then rather letting us know you'd rather do it, just do it. I'm 90% sure it would entertain you more than typing how much you hate DA2 over and over.

Im so sorry you dont enjoy my rants Dave of Canada. If it were not for the tedious overuse of bland hack and slash combat leading towards the same inevitable and highly predictable 2 choice ending what ever else could I possibly rant about though? Your thoughts and feedback on the Iwasdrunkbro ranting system is needed to help me improve!

I very much agree with Kevin. I loved his 9.5 Origins review and his 8.0 DA2 review, and this is spot on too. The add-on is about 80% combat, and it's the same old mindless hack and slash through boring environments and outdated graphics without anything too interesting besides the brief dealings with the Grey Warden group. There's really no reason to get this unless you REALLY enjoyed Dragon Age 2's combat.. and especially when Old World Blues is the same price and drastically better overall.

I also decided to go with Old World Blues over this especially after reading some of the reviews. The problem that I see is that Bioware believes their combat system is top notch when its mediocre at best. For some reason Bioware also believes that mindless hack and slash is more important than story ...in an rpg. So based on those 2 issues, I can 100% agree with the review without even playing the dlc.

I pass. Try again Bioware. Maybe one day the people over there will stop worshiping the button mashers and get back to making fun rpgs.

the combat more important than story.....lol

the story is a reason why this DLC was praised, way more than the combat.....

You could just not rant, and play a game you enjoy. Reiterating your discontent with a game is not going to make it any better. Especially when there's plenty others who are actually enjoying the game for what it is.

DA2 is awful, but the review is pretty BS - Legacy was great.

It feels like gamespot is trying to pile on DA2 to say they're in line with fan perceptions... but ironically Legacy was the well received product vs. DA2 as a whole.

Beat me to it.

The first thing that popped into my head when I read this review was:  "wait a minute.  This is Gamespot.  the  publication that  had to live the last 4 months in E-shame for giving DA2 a 94% rating and calling it "the best RPG of the Decade".

Now it seems they're trying to play catch-up with reality.      But they're still failing.   They're  completely out of sync  with  gamers... again.   Legacy seems to be getting  rave reviews across the board.

Escapist magazine too.

Bottom Line: A pinnacle of role-playing games with well-designed mechanics and excellent story-telling, Dragon Age II is what videogames are meant to be.[5/5]

i always considered the escapist's reviews to be joke, in a bad way, except for Yahtzee, which are a joke in a good way, cause their SUPPOSED to be jokes.

 What a bull**** review.

but it has no singular moment to make it special.

I`d say there was a pretty huge singular moment at the end, a certain revelation made about a key piece of lore in the DA universe. People who has played Legacy will know what I mean.

I can agree that it was incredibly frustrating that the hold-function didn`t work at all in this DLC, but it was the only thing that felt bugged for me, the rest was smooth.

5,5 is just laughable, I`d understand 7 because of the price, but it`s at least an 8 for a DLC if you don`t count the price of it. Just my opinion.

Heh yeah. ZP is comedy first, much needed jabs at the video game industry second and review third.

Now you see, it works both ways. 5,5 is his opinion and I am sure your 8 is laughable for him.

Good point.

This is a DLC.    Now, I don't know how professional reviewers  formulate their 'official' opinions, but when I'm judging and measuring something,  my mind is hard wired to  not forget  the fundamental things like  "context" and "comparison".  And the fact that it's a DLC.

For me to give a DLC a 5.5, it's got to be fairly awful by DLC standards.   (which, by design, are going to be much lower than a full game).  Well, folks?   Is Legacy the worst DLC you've ever played?  is it average?   Above average?  Great?  The best DLC you've ever played?  Those are the questions any intelligent person should be asking before judging a  friggin DLC.

I wanna say "I told you so" to all the people saying "it's what Dragon Age 2 should've been!" but it's not worth it because they'll will just drone it all out like they always do. *sigh* and *sigh* again...

^ well, comparing it to for example New Vegas DLCs like Dead Money (how much new content you get, gameplay length etc) at the same 10$ price ... no comments.

Yep. I can answer the last question, too.

I'm inclined to say the best I've ever played... but LotSB had me laughing a bit more. VERY close second.:bandit:

Perhaps Bioware is paying the bad reception of DA2 vs. high scores made by professional reviewers?

I haven't bought the DLC yet, but the review of Gamespot is strange, they don't point really good reasons to give such a low value.
Also, they focused exclusively on the technical aspects (combat. etc.) without telling anything about companions interaction and atmosphere.

It was PC Gamer, correct.

Back then Gamespot's review ( which gave Dragon Age 2 an 8.0, and was written by the same Kevin VanOrd ) was praised for its fairness ( by people who didn't like Dragon Age 2 ) for a short while because it was one of the lower scores the game got; reviews were still coming in at that time.

Compared to the fact that exactly the same reviewer gave Origins a 9.5, an 8.0 seems more like a lukewarm reception than outright lavishing the game with praise.

Well if you read the user feedback you'd know that none of that is true for this dlc. No problem with choosing Old World Blues I myself can't wait to play it but Legacy clearly doesn't deserve this especially when you haven't played it.

They had to create all new areas and bring back all the voice actors. Doesn't seem overpriced to me especially compared to say lotsb. Plus its not 2 hours, by the time I play all my characters through it it will probably be more like 12.

So I take it you are in fact Kevin. Why defend some nobody online game reviewer who clearly gives inconsistent reviews otherwise and even if he is right about the bugs he is wrong on other counts like the waves appearing from nowhere, that is something Bioware fixed.

Gamespot Van Ord, lol.

Anyway,

In Exile wrote...

Indeed. I've noticed this with Gamespot reviews and previews too many times to count, even IGN are more well behaved. Noticing some of his complaints seem more applicable to the main game only reinforces this for me.

Add to that the ease of which some reviewers come down hard on DLC and eh. Frankly I haven't needed to read any reviews to know Legacy has been handled well - just looking around these boards and seeing the metre swing somewhat towards praise of BioWare/DA2 for a change is suitable evidence.

The only real worthwhile complaint I can see there is about the price, and I've never thought that pricing should affect the scoring of games anyway. It should be mentioned in the review itself, but the review should reflect the quality of the product itself, regardless of whether it is overpriced or not.

Sorry, gotta respond to this. :P I have never gotten this complaint of the series. It's one of the only hugely popular (and thus moneymaking) big budget TV shows that has managed to restrict itself to a certain number of series/episodes in order to tell a story. Most would just get renewed over and over again until they died of creative brain death. I have long sinced accepted Lost isn't for everyone, but I never felt like it strung me along (too badly). /offtopic.

Although Point Lookout(FO3) and Lair of The Shadow Broker(ME2) are good too.
