Ashley Williams for me hands down. Maybe I am just a sucker for a pretty face but when Ashley starts reading me poetry I can't help but smile. As tough as she might seem on the outside once you get to know her on a personal level she is actually very sweet!

Tali, the way she goes about it, all awkward and everything, it's just... so cute. And there's also the fact that she could die from the romance. That just makes it even more meaningful to me.

All characters are equal in importance but I think my favorite LI would have to be Tali for sure. To me she doesn't seem like the other LIs whereas in the first game you encounter them in you have the possibility of sex at the end. Tali grew on me, I romanced Ashley on my first play through because I felt a little Xenophobic about other aliens and didn't really wish to romance them. During the second one though, opinion totally changed for Tali for that shy personality that I love so much. The whole "Knight in shinning armor" thing helped too ^^

Liara would have to be my second if anything though, even with my Xenophobic Sheppard through the first play through. She's stuck with you since the start of the game and unlike Ashley, didn't just say to go screw yourself over when she finds out your working with Cerberus. She does seem somewhat reluctant and that's good enough for my to try it at the least.

Ashley would be third, mainly because she was in the first game. She does come off as a little whorish though, at least to me, but then again if the person you loved could possibly die in the next few hours some people would probably due the same. Liara did the same too though, but as said before, she seemed more reluctant to me then Ashley did.

Jack comes in fourth because she reminds me of a few of my friends. Trying to maintain a hard personality that hates everyone because of her past but has a soft inside reached out to me. Jack does, however, irk me in a way I didn't think possible when I was told about her appearance for Mass Effect Two.

Finally Miranda comes in last, she's Cerberus, genetically altered and comes off as snobbish to me. She believes she has superior looks and abilities then others because of her genetics and while she does admit she was jealous of Sheppard for accomplishing everything on his own, it isn't enough to convince me that she isn't a little snobby. Just as well, her past doesn't seem that bad compared to the others(Jack for example) and like Ashley, comes off as whorish to at least me.

On a serious note, I think she evolves the most as a character. She goes from the quiet archeaologist to vengeful information broker, she participates in the death of her mother, she has a friend she cares enough about to rescue from the Shadow Broker who isn't a part of the Normandy crew, and she actually does things with Shepard romantically besides just sex.

That last part is also why Kelly is the second best LI. That, and because she's the most normal. Average, college educated, psychology degree, no crazy skills or abilites. It's nice imo.

Moving on. For my Shep, out of Liara, Kaidan, Garrus, Jacob and Thane the best LI was definitely Kaidan. She saw him as an equal (but for rank), someone who she could trust and get a reliable opinion out of, and someone who didn't put her on a pedestal. There was also no <3, always a bonus. It was a slow build up kind of a relationship between two very similar characters. For me it only got better in ME2 when Kaidan was the only returning character who actually questioned her return and association with Cerberus (esp. considering Akuse). It was by far the most realistic reaction, and even more impressive is the fact that Kaidan didn't get steamrolled by AlwaysRight!Shepard - the only other character that I know of who stood his own was Mordin and he's not an LI.

I could never bring myself to go for Liara. She reminded of a little girl with a crush on her idol or something. It just felt wrong. She wasn't really mature enough to romance, although she did make a very good friend (after she figured out the whole no relationship thing out).

Garrus is my bro. Nothing much else to say there.

Jacob was okay. Unromanced!Shep would possibly tap that, but only for fun. A Sole Survivor working with Cerberus and under the unacknowledged threat of a Reaper attack has issues, but he doesn't really want to talk. It's not the way he deals with things. There's no relationship there.

Thane isn't over his dead wife. And he's terminal. And he's a lizardman. An interesting person as a friend, but... no.

Anyway, TLDR (WAY tldr) Kaidan. Cos he lo- appreciates you.

There we go! +1 for Liara! All the LIs are great but I just think Liara's devotion to Shepard is one of a kind. Without her Shepard wouldn't even be alive.

No kidding.  I have three different Sheps with Liara.  She is also my favorite character by far. 

Someone mentioned Tali and how she sorts stumbled over herself with Shepard.  Liara did that in ME1.
