DA3 is most likely set in Orlais. Orlesians are supposed to be very fashionable, and perhaps BW can create a whole new look for the game, and a feeling that you are in a very different place, starting with the fashion. Some posts have said that Orlesians dress like 18th century French, though I'm not sure if that is a good look for the game. Maybe they should just dress really colorful, with really bright colored clothes and intricate designs (for both men and women), and maybe long, flowing clothing for women which has a lower cut on chest area.
Just wondering.
What do you think Orlesians should dress like?

I pretty much have the same thoughts. I don't know how that would like in the game and setting, but I imagine that they are wearing more colorful clothes then people in Ferelden.
When I imagine an Orlesian lady dressed for battle I imagine her wearing armor for the vital parts while also dressed in a dress or half dress with beautiful silks and ornaments.
I'm really curious to see what BioWare does with the Orlesian people.

For some reason I picture fancy ballroom-style clothing with masks.

Like actual historical France, probably circa renaissance. If comparing the look of Assassin's Creed II and Dragon Age II tells us anything, it's that historical fashion designers went a lot easier on the spikes and ended up with a much cooler look.

Fancy.
Most expensive cavalry in the history - one winged husar's war horse costed as much as 2-4 (even up to 8) average heavy cavalry horses. Hussars wore bulletproof chestpiece.

I think they will probably wear fancy, noble clothes. Dresses and suits for the nobles, and as for the poorer people in Orlais, probably just ragged dresses and half-naked men with only there ragged trousers (Hopefully
)

Perhaps something that is more on the decorative side instead of on the practical side. Some sort of mix between Venetian and those French Renaissance-ish dresses. A lot of colours and probably a lot of gold and patterns like French lillies.

They would be naked. With lots and lots of gaudy and gilded jewery and accessories. (It's en vogue this time of year.)

If you want to mirror whats said in the game and interpolate from history, you'd have peasants and labourers dressed very badly indeed (more or less rags), the bourgeousie dressed soberly, servants in livery of their lords (think uniforms of one sort or another) and the nobility dressing very flash indeed. Since elves are apparently mostly serfs they'd be in either rags or livery.

Extravagant ball gowns for the women. Fancy, puffy-shouldered vests and pantaloons for the men. Lot's of make-up. Very aristocratic. Fashionable hats, hairpieces and headpieces. Expensive jewelry.
Middle class women - Long, slender gowns. Showered in perfumes. Somewhat like Liselle I suppose. Middle class men - expensive silk shirts. Nice boots. But neither gender is overdressed to the extent of the nobility.
Peasants? Rags 'N Bags.

Renaissacne style. Lots of puffs and frills and bright colours. Aesthetics over practicality. For the nobles at least, the commoners and elves should be in rags. For armour something...classy but practical. Not frilly, but stylish. Shiny and flanged and patterned.
Oh, and I'll only say this once. In DAIII, I WANT A CLOAK!!!

Oh good lord, not Orlesians. They're crazy. ~_~
I mean, I'm sure a Rogue character would have great fun running some Bard quests, and a Warrior could possibly become a Chevalier, but as an Elf Mage fan, I really must protest. >_>

For the nobles it is very flamboyant but ever changing. As a rule; there is always lots of makeup, feathers, fine fabrics, furs, and brocades. The men wear ornate doublets of lace and silk, silken trousers with stocking and high heeled shoes that often have spurs, especially for chevaliers. If they are leading members of the army, they may also wear their intricately made armor pieces. The women don gowns of great size and intricacy that are both amazingly beautiful, but also cumbersome to move in, especially with their delicate footwear. Both genders wear makeup, ostentatious amounts jewelry, wigs, and masks in public.
The common folk are more subdued, especially for the men. The design is the same but the materials are rustic like linen or leather. Women wear corsets and simple skirts. Due to the various sumptuary laws, peasants are forbidden(among other things) to use more wealthier materials like felt. Orlais is very fashion conscious, it's in their very laws.

Hopefully they stick to the lore/descriptions, and don't just have everyone in Orlais wear the same stuff as the people in Ferelden/Free Marches. Orlais seems to have a unique culture and I'd like to see them retain their culture/fashion sense (or lack thereof), if Orlais does appear in DA3.
Leliana mentioned one lady in particular who wore live birds in her hair (who also never washed her hair). I'd like to see that in DA3.

This would be something along the line of:

France, late18th century, just before the Revolution simplified hairdo a lot for aristocracy.
One century earlier, men had it too:

While women were a little bit more reasonable:

Meanwhile, peasants did what they could with what they had:

If the Orlesians don't dress in a stripey jumper with onions round their necks I will be very disappointed.
