1) Please give a warning if time constraints will play a part if you take on a mission. E.g. you give a warning if you intend to go into the Omega 4 Relay, but there is no warning if you take on the IFF mission. Generally the game
has you out to save the universe...but there's no hurry...until you take the IFF mission. I lost most of my crew because I took the chance that doing other things beforehand would not see the abducted die. I'm replaying the game again to not make the same 'mistake' again...which is annoying...if I was to replay the game, it would have been to play as a different gender. I'm not a fan of this kind of game gimmick...at least ME2 has the decency to warn you in the case of the Omega 4 relay mission. Would have liked that one extra warning.
2) Since I made the above 'mistake', I would have liked to have 'rewound' my game to the moment before I took on the IFF mission, so that I could leave that until later. Is this kind of thing possible (I mean without taking into account alternative saves)?
3) I like trying variations in story to get one I like...so the ability to save more often would be appreciated...e.g. the Omega 4 Relay mission has a LOT of text and no save opportunities to speak of. I would have liked to have been
able to save before choosing squads for particular missions in that final part of the game. It would be good to replay the game because you want to, not because you feel that the game has shortchanged you of the opportunity to create the story you want to create (e.g. me losing my crew post IFF mission).
4) My game was buggy a few times...characters making like Lionel Richie...dancing on the ceiling. I.e. if you move a character too close to a hole in the ground, or too near some sort of incline, they levitate, as do your squad out of sympathy...you can't get down...have to reboot...annoying. There were some mini-freezes around the ICC...doors around Mordin and Jacob, but fortunately this was only temporary...didn't have to reboot.
5) The rotary display is annoying on Assassin's Creed games and Mass Effect 2...finnicky hitting the right item...too hard. Something which works first time and quickly appreciated.
6) Too late now, but I'm not online...you REALLY should have had the backstory ON the cd, so you didn't have to download it. Missed any bonuses available for that.
7) Too late now, but you REALLY should keep the handbooks. You can't access the one on the cd when you are playing. How about sourcing the paper from plantations? Or recycled? Hell, plant a virtual tree for everyone you actually use.
8) I really liked Kasumi...pity there were no conversation options for her. Pity Yeoman Chambers' conversations were always circular. Pity Miranda repeated the lines she used before my character had sex with her, after I
finished the game...but a nice touch to hear new stuff at the end of the game from some characters.
9) I had Jack die on me in the final mission because, presumably, she was not loyal...I got the impression that you could either have Jack loyal to you or Miranda, not both. If not, it would have been good to have alternative routes open to you to regain loyalty...coz it would be a grind replaying a whole game to bring about the loyalty of both. Edit: getting conflicting advice here re loyalty...from my point of view, it is a bad thing for the game to have some sort of pre-set notion of what sequence will get the desired outcome...e.g. if it turns out you have to get Jack's loyalty first, then do Miranda's loyalty mission last. A good game would be indifferent to sequence and more reliant on giving you opportunities to gain the loyalty of either team mate.
10) Not a fan of the hovercraft...and I found the Geth shield mission so totally counter-intuitive I needed online help to get past that...found the scenario stupid (i.e. the 'solution' bein g getting the Geth cannon to destroy its own system); The hovercraft was a pain to fly...I thought it was just me, but even on You Tube the 'pros' looked pretty bad at it...the Ilium flying section wasn't that much fun either...but fortunately, I could bumble my way through it. Edit in: on replay the hovercraft was more 'do-able'.
* Less grinding would be good too...e.g. your space hamster is self-sufficient, but your fish die if you do not regularly feed them. A pain! Same too with the mining...just a grind to do, especially if you are replaying.
- Would it possible to have an open plan ship with stairs? It's a pain getting into the lift and waiting for everything to load...if there were stairs I'd have taken those instead!
Oh yeah, sometimes the subtitles did not keep up with the speech...character would say something and you'd miss it on the subtitle, even if you were quick.
Hope I see some of these suggestions in the new game!
* OK, one more...I'm replaying the game now and am trying to get the data-hound trophy...got 5/6...looks like I'll have to re-do the damn mission to get all six...You Tubing now...it seems like a bs mission... I mean, if it was a
believable mission, you'd get info on where to find the packets. The BIG issue is the lack of save opportunities and in this case, being unable to revisit areas (presumably) to look for missed packets after you have partially
completed objectives, like landing at certain stations. Since missions like this are a massive grind and infuriating too, I'd suggest having an uncheatable system for such time wasting activities...randomise locations for
trinkets...that way there'd be no point You Tubing for locations as they are all random. That way I wouldn't get so ticked off with tasks like these...I wouldn't bother with them...they seem merely diversions. Had another
bug on that mission...hiding by cover, I levitated again...died quickly coz I was a sitting duck. Dunno if bugs more common on replay or not.
edit in - actually, it turns out that I could get the 6th data packet even though I had saved and completed some steps in the mission beforehand, so kudos there. But, the whole side-mission just seemed equivalent to the flag hunting kind of 'missions' in Assassin's Creed...and flag hunting is boring...even if you do get a meaningless trophy for doing it...meaningless trophies...don't get me started!
edit in:
* Squad AI...I'd like your squad to not require micro-management...i.e. just getting out of cover and getting themselves killed all the time...it seems to me that once you start placing them in position, they become really dumb...you have to micro-manage them from that point on. On first play through, before I was more comfortable with the game options, Kasumi was great in her loyalty mission in the final fight...she cleared that section for me on her own! On replay, when I was more in control of her, she'd start doing her own thing and getting herself killed often.
- Other bugs...walking mechs moving side to side and not closing in on you because...? Easy targets.
- When some foes are standing on your feet, literally, they can't seem to hurt you.
- I'm relying on your bug which lets me not waste medi packs on team members...they die, but do a Jesus for the next step in the sequence, or come back for the cut scene at the end of the mission....forget I mentioned it!
