Unless he discovered he had the taint then took the joining to survive and help raise and protect his family. And never told anyone about it, then left to take his calling or killed himself when the time had come

The odds of him having more children would have been extremely low though. No, not impossible but really really really low. That would also be a bit early for the calling too, wouldn't it? Also, it would have to have happened after he was done strengthening the wards as it required untainted blood and I don't imagine he hung around the prison for long when he was done.
