The Batarian Hegemony is a threat to humans everywhere, and has proven itself non-amenable to a peaceful coexistence with Humanity. If we have the available military force remaining after the Reaper threat has been resolved, I support a preemptive strike against the Batarian military and industrial infrastructure so that they cannot afford to hire pirates and slavers to attack any more human colonies.

Genocide is impractical, but crippling their economy's ability to produce anything other than food should keep them quiet long enough for the Alliance to recover.

Good idea, beat them down so bad that they will never rise again. But it would have to be alot more strick then what was done for the krogan DMZ. I mean do the same thing to them as the Council did the to yahg  and not let any of them leave their home world.

A glance at Mass Effect Wiki or the Codex will show that the Batarians have been violent aggressors to virtually the entire galactic community for as long as they've been capable of FTL travel. Their acts of terrorism are wholly and completely unjustifiable. That said, these acts seem to be the actions of their govt as large portions of their own population suffer from their own tyranny and barbarism. Look for a revolution to happen in ME3 that'll hopefully put an end to their govt sanctioned terrorist acts and have them join the civilized galactic community as a whole.... if there's any left. Don't the Reapers have to pass through Batarian territory to get to Alliance territory?

I had a history teacher that once said "People get the government they deserve." Esentially, Batarian culture is such that any 'revolution' is unlikely to create anything better than the current Hegemony. History tends to reflect this tendency as well.

The only Batarians my Shepard screwed over (besides the mercs) were the ones harassing Daniel, Cathka, Tarak, and the bartender (though he would have killed Kylan given the opportunity). Now that I think about it, that's almost all the killable Batarian NPCs. Nevermind, my Shep does indeed hate Batarians.

Unless there is some story/plot twist that turns the batarians on their heads then I'll gladly let the batarians get wiped out or push the button myself.  BW did too good a job creating a race that is very easy to despise if not hate.
