Thane has hardly anytime left because of his illness. although i distinctly remember a message about a Drell who was cured and some kind of miracle? maybe that means something i'm not sure but i'd like to hear some opinions

Heh, I was just having this discussion on the Thane fan thread. The fans in that thread have sort of banned discussion on this topic.

I don't know for sure his fate, but I think it would be VERY AWESOME if Bioware gave him a glorious and appropriate death. I want him to go out with a bang.

Yeah, glorious heroic death should be Thane's way to go.

I thought that Drell email was supposed to be a joke spam message like the ones you get in real life about a person meeting <insert religious figure here>.

Doubt it, but I'm sure he'll get quite the death scene.

This.
As much as I would love for him to miraculously (I have a play through with him as my LI) get cured, it would be far too... sugar-coated.

*Edit
Stoopid english language. Grr.

I've said before that I hope Thane gets a lung transplant because it's not a cure, but it might keep him viable for the duration of the mission. I'm a Thanemancer myself, but I'd rather leave it nebulous for everyone involved- we can decide in headcanon whether there's a cure down the line or not.

Barring that, if there's no transplant, I hope he gets what he really deserves- an epic, beautiful death. I'm kind of holding out for a 'Shepard and their LI die saving the galaxy' death option because I think it would be poetic for Thane and a romanced Shepard, who have spent their entire professional life removing people to give their lives to save everyone.

There's a perfectly fine character discussion board that's made for this kind of talk.

Just saying.

As noted, that thread tends to shut down discussion of his death very quickly.

Thane is going to be in and will have the same amount of content as any other love interest, as evidenced by BioWare's continued promise of treating all love interests equally in ME3. That's enough for me.

Thane is one of those characters toward whom I am wholly indifferent. Don't like him, don't dislike him, he's just there. I do like his combat usefulness in ME2 though, and if he's similarly useful in ME3, then I hope he does live, he will find a berth on the Normandy in almost all of playthroughs. I probably still won't talk to him with every Shepard though.

Yeah, that was just spam, based on the popular footprints poem/spam.

I want to say, that the reason I like the idea of Thane dying isn't because I dislike him. Quite the contrary. He is one of my favorite characters in the series.

It's already been established that he's dying from an incurable disease. To just introduce that character point, then to magically erase it in three because of a cure, would be a disservice to a character that I love. A far greater tribute is the heroic last stand, especially if we get to play as Thane during that last stand, the way we got to play Joker during 2. I think that if done right, it would be one of the most memorable moments of the entire series.

Basically, this.

Thanks for saving me three minutes of typing! I can now dedicate it to solving 1/3 of an Algebra problem!

I third this, although I'm not in favor of playing that last stand as him,

I believe that Thane has like 8-12 months of life, and ME3 happens 6-12 months afther ME2. In the best of the cases he will have 6 months living in ME3, the worst he will be dead.

I think some kind of cheap, fast miracle cure out of the sky would cheapen the character, but if they come up with something well written and plausible, sure, why not?

Hopefully the fishman dies, the character irritates me. Hopefully when Shep clicks the garbage disposal in ME3 Thane gets sucked into space.

If you feel that way, it's easy enough to get him killed during the suicide run.

It's not canon though, they need to get rid of this character asap.

It really depends on which way BioWare is gonna swing Mass Effect 3.

If it's gonna end in a glorious victory, it would be kind of a bummer to have your LI die.

If it's dark and gloomy with lots of casualties, having your LI die could be a bombshell.

Didn't you hear Shepard's tears cure death? Only problem is Shepard never cries.
