Improved Squad AI

While that needs fixing, just always try to keep them near you. This seems to work with battles on Insanity for me. Flanking works wonders, but so does a closely knit unit which is being emphasize in ME3 with the enemy AI.
For this, the inverse of that adage rings true. Keep your enemies close, but your friends closer.

I just saw something related to what you said while fighting the Collectors on Horizon that I had never really seen. I ordered both of my squadmates to fire at a Harbinger possessed Collector so he was being overwhelmed a bit. He did the smart thing and backed out of the room and retreated a fair distance around the corner. If squad A.I. could do something as smart as that there would be less problems.
Yeah, I've seen enemies retreat a lot too. Shouldn't be that hard to make the squad do it as well.
I know that I might tell them to go to a certain point, but I won't be mad at them if they decide to break off and run back a bit, because I would've done the same thing if an enemy is all up in my face. Especially if the enemy is carrying a flamethrower.

IKR! That whole "Cure" level frustrated me because of them!!

The ME2 AI is horrid. Not even worthy of the term "ai" since it's really just a timer. You can see the timer codes in the coalesced.ini file if you hack it. Get in cover. Fire 3 sets of 3 rounds. Cover for 2 seconds. Fire 3 sets of 3 rounds. Cover for 2 secs. Etc. It's no wonder they always die.
Oh man. Are you serious?
Are they seriously that retarded? I thought they were, but so much? Every once in a while they do use some powers but still they are quite stupid
I also hate the part that when I say Regroup they go to your position no matter what, so if you're in a fight and order them to regroup, they'll leave cover and get exactly to your location. Then if they're still alive prooced to find cover.
Imagine that in a room where there's little cover. Yeah, you guessed it they die.
Oh, and also during fights with Praetorians, they'll shoot the Praetorian while it's recharging shields, causing explosions everywhere, even if you did not order them to attack it. Seriously it drives me crazy. i have died so many times because of my squadmates it's hilarious. Especially with my vanguard.
I really hope it's improved in ME3. At least make them understand how to get cover and wait to recharge shields. Would be cool if they could do combat rolls and stuff, but the main objective is to make them actually not so retarded.

I completely agree. I also want my squadmates to perform melee attacks (don't have to be omni tool attacks), and dodges and summersaults. I think Holmes stated that they were currently thinking about putting that stuff in the game for the squad mates, but hadn't fully decided yet.
I agree with some melee attacks if enemies are nearby, or at least running away to range. So sick of enemies using melee attacks and squadies just standing there to die.
However they cannot be on par with sheperd, and there is something dramatically heroic about doing summersaults. If everyone does it, sheperd (the player) does not feel as badass.
In short, AI should stay alive and work best through player instruction. Any time where the squadmate becomes better than sheperd should only be in a cutscene.

and yeah thats not even "AI". Only thing AI about ME2 I suppose is their pathfinding.

I just got through the Horizon fight with the Praetorian on Insanity. I died too many times because my squad was dumb enough to be right next to the thing when it's recharging its shield. Since the A.I. of that thing is stuck on "Kill Shepard" I have to depend on my squad to damage it while it chases me.Pulletlamer wrote...

The squadmates suck they didn't do crap i always end up doing EVERYTHING, plus every enemy wants YOU dead. I remember once miranda and garrus were both completely out of cover but the YMIR mech decided to come after me even though i was in cover 10+ feet away...wtf

Agreed 100%. Don't give them the omniblade, but maybe let them perform the standard string'd melee attack. Maybe give Thane a bit of a flashy CQC sequence unique to him, and Grunt a normal Krogan charge.

Half the time they won't go to where you ordered... or they will and won't take cover once arriving.
They constantly pop up their heads no matter how many bullets are flying at them.
Then there are problems like say they are shooting at a collector far away... they will ignore the husk that's beating them to death and will constantly be stunned and hit until they die. They have no sense of threat. lol

I haven't played GoW in a while but I still remember that the A.I. was smart enough to know that if you're out of cover you're gonna die. Even with all the botic and tech powers, in a fight, Baird>Miranda lol.crimzontearz wrote...
honestly...they try to take so much from GoW...and yet they can't seem to get right the simple idea that "gee......it's a cover based shooting mechanic....MAYBE....the first priority in a firefight should be getting in cover and STAYING in cover"

I would love for the squad to work in unison like that. Come into a room full of enemes and without taking cover the three of you just start dropping Cerberus lackies or other enemies left and right.pablodurando wrote...
I would like the option to personalize the AI's playing style. I prefer run n' gun, but it's kind of lame when your squaddies won't even shoot when you're in the center of the battle field and being torn up. I want the option to have my AI's be more aggressive and actually run with me not stopping for cover.

Tali's so frustrating. Her health is too low and she is too slow to actually use a shotgun. The only thing she has going for her is her drones, accent, and body.
